Is the President aware that Islam is the only religion with a doctrine involving the military subjugation of non-believers? I doubt it. I don't for one second think Bush believes one word of the appeasment speak that he issues when speaking ot Muslims.
Why didn't Lincoln free the slaves the day after the south fired on Ft. Summter? For the exact same reason Bush says crap like. Because once you free the slaves there is no going back, the d'jinn is out of the bottle.
If had freed the slaves on day 2 of the Civil War there would have been no chance of a reconciliation with the south, which is what many in the north wanted. They had a fantasy utopian hope that they could "work it out" and wanted to keep all option open. It is only with the hindsight of history can we see it was a waste of time.
Dealing with Americna Muslims is a Gordian knot Bush has to try and untangle without using a sword. We might disapprove when Bush says crap like Islam is committed to religous freedom but what would you have him say? Right now Muslims absolutely refused to entertain the idea that Islam is at all to blame for anything bad in the Islamic world. Bush up on a podium telling a bunch of Muslims that Islam is a broken, failed, morally bankrupt ideology and their lot will not improve one bit until they change themselves and stop trying to conquer the world for Allah would not help things. At best it would sour the illinformed swing vote public opinion and put a "roll over for Islam" Democrat in office. At worse the speach would ignite dormant Islamists in America to action and we'd have to start locking Muslims up in internment camps to try and cut down on the school bus bomings.
I don't beleive Bush is saying his person feelings... becuase if he did we had better be ready to go all the way.
I wish Bush wouldn't say anything. If he had never said a word about the nature of Islam, it wouldn't be missed. He could even have his iftaars if he must and still refrain from saying anything about what Islam is about. It wouldn't be difficult at all.
Yes. Silence would be preferable. Perhaps somewhere in the administration there is a strong drive to show themselves as the friend of Islam.
I agree with you Mr. Spencer -- Bush should have stayed mute. His statement has given credence to campaigns like CAIR and their drive to give books to libraries that paint a one-sided and artificial impression of Islam being a religion of peace.
Unlike another post here that tries to claim Bush’s statement as being wholly political, I have to disagree. I can understand why Bush said it when he did – there was a real risk of cowardly Americans going on rampages and killing anything that moved and resembled a Middle Eastern.

Lets count the wars waged by so called christian countries, and list the wars committed by Muslim countries;
World war 1 ==christian
World war 2 ====christian
Korea===christian
Vietnam===christian
Im not sure of this war but I think it was Rwanda or some other African country where 100 000 civilians where butchered, yep you guessed it they are also christian. (One of the Tribes was the tutsis)
How about the ethnic cleansing in kosovo, that was another good murder fest by our fellow christians.

The wars of the so called christian west in Korea, Vietnam, WWI and II, were to liberate people from either communism or fascism.This had nothing to do at all with the islamic pseudo-religious conspiracy, terror and war against peace and liberty loving nations all over the world.Islam targets and kills civilians on a religious basis, for some kinky reward in the hereafter, which is not at all what western democracies do, when trying to liberate people in total despair!CAIR and all muslim organisations here on the net, can turn it whatever way they want: islam is preaching and carrying out murder on a horrifying scale.Its moral level is incredibly low and it leads people to total spiritual and wordly darkness!
