Freed from Gitmo, many rejoin Taliban

Here's a "bombshell" from Donald Rumsfeld: terror suspects freed from Guantanamo Bay have been rejoining Al-Qaeda and the Taliban. This is no surprise, really. Two weeks ago we posted a story about the same thing happening in Afghanistan. Why should it be any different at Gitmo? From the New York Daily News, with thanks to Jean-Luc:

Terrorists freed from the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay have rejoined Taliban and Al Qaeda cells in Afghanistan, sources tell the Daily News. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is expected to make the bombshell admission today in a speech in Miami, military and political sources said yesterday.

But Rumsfeld's revelation about the few prisoners in Cuba who shouldn't have been let go will be used as justification for indefinitely detaining approximately 650 terror suspects still held there, said one defense official.

The Pentagon chief will argue for greater scrutiny of each detainee, but he'll also "talk about the intent to release more" than the 87 freed to date, the official said.

Pentagon officials have refused to discuss one reported case of a Taliban commander, Mullah Shehzada, who rejoined comrades in Afghanistan after his release from the Guantanamo prison camp in Cuba last October.

Shehzada convinced his interrogators he was an innocent civilian captured by Northern Alliance troops and turned over to the U.S., Time magazine reported late last year.

"[Shehzada] is not the only one," said a source briefed on the speech yesterday. "They're about to be a lot less tight-lipped about it."

Rumsfeld is also expected to reveal that detainees have provided intelligence about human smuggling rings in Latin America aimed at sneaking Al Qaeda thugs into the U.S.

What exactly did we think they were going to do once they got out? Missionary work?

Donald Rumsfeld (whom I used to admire) should be more involved in current affairs. The press has been reporting about smuggling terrorists to the U.S. from South America, for the past two years (see Vanity Fair, New Yorker, etc.), in great detail.

I hope our military is smart enough to be implanting global positioning tracker chips under the skin of these terrorists...that way they can lead us to their fellow conspirators. Somehow I doubt the military has done this.
Maybe someone can suggest it to Rumsfield.

On a related issue, I fear that by training a new Iraqi police force and a new Iraqi armed force in the absence of a new Islam, we are, in effect, training future enemy combatants.

Are my concerns mislaid? I would be so pleased to know that I am wrong.

I with they would implant a .45 slug under each and every one of them's skull; after of course torturing them to extract any last little bit of info that can be extracted.

Then pack the cockroaches into barrels filled with pork grease; seal them and dump the barrels into the deepest abyss in the sea. Advertise the procedure to our dear ROP(TM)friends and repeat as necessary.

It stuck me that this is another example of deception and lying to those that are not Muslim. How can we believe a single word that these people utter? Rememeber the old Brer Rabbit story of the man who picked up the snake. The snake's reply to the man's surprise was, "What did you expect, I'm a snake?"

There is no changing human nature. Logic and reason will not alter the nature of these people. They smell blood and their blood lust will stop only with their destruction. They will always return to continue the jihad. A snake is a snake and a jihadi is a jihadi.

Nathan, I saw the articles about the pig fat and I thought what an innovative idea. Here, once again, is the difference between the murderous mind of a Muslim imam ("Kill the Jooooos") and the problem-solving mind of an Israeli rabbi.

epg, you are 100% right about the impossibility of logic and reason changing these people. It can't. It's too late for the overwhelming majority of them after about age 12-15, when the final organization of the brain is "set in stone," along with most of the junk that's been poured into them from about age 5-6. If they haven't sensed something wrong all by themselves by the time puberty hits, it's too late.

The only hope is to get to them and offer reason and logic training beginning in K and going through 12. Are any of our own people listening?

Eli, in one of my more frustrated moments right after the Iranians took over our embassy, I had a fantasy where diluted pig poop was mixed with the adhesives that are used in chemical weapons, loaded onto ICBMs, and exploded a few hundred feet off the ground above Tehran until the poop was about 6" thick EVERYWHERE. Now that's something that would push their rage, humiliation, revenge, and anger buttons, isn't it?

I STILL think it's a good idea.

But our protectors would never THINK of doing anything so offensive. Your chip insertion plan sounds a lot more like something our people might actually do, and it's a GREAT idea. It would have to be inserted in a location where removal would be very difficult without the most advanced surgical techniques--maybe carefully inserted into the brainstem or something. Then, if the Jihadis wanted to be sure that the "Insertees" weren't divulging secrets, the Insertees would either have to be kept out of the loop entirely, or killed. Either way, they would be a lot less dangerous to us.

Oh, I'm getting as much pleasure out of the thought of doing that as I got out of the Pig Poop Plan! Thankyouthankyouthankyou!

zorkmidden, we are still cackling about "Missionary work!"

Oops! Zorkmidden, I apologize for forgetting that by rejoining al Qaeda and the Taliban, they ARE doing "missionary work," according to their definition.

Cubed, you're right. There goes another word that loses its meaning when spoken by Islamists(along with the word PEACE of course).
