Abu Qatada: they trusted him, and they're paying for it (BBC)

LONDON: One of al-Qa'ida's most dangerous figures has been revealed as a double agent who fooled MI5, raising intense criticism from European governments who had repeatedly called for his arrest.Britain ignored warnings from friendly governments about Abu Qatada's links with terrorist groups and refused to arrest him.
A leaked copy of a judgment by the Special Immigration Appeals Commission has revealed how British intelligence chiefs hid from their European allies how they were hoping to use the cleric as an informer against Islamic militants in Britain.
Qatada boasted to MI5 how he could prevent terrorist attacks in Britain and hoodwinked agents into believing he would expose dangerous extremists arriving, while all along he was setting up a safe haven for his terror organisation in the country.
Among the scores of young militants who visited him was the chief suspect in the Madrid train bombings. His followers also included volunteers to be suicide bombers for al-Qa'ida, including Richard Reid, the shoe bomber. The judgment copy, obtained by Britain's Channel 4, revealed yesterday there was evidence that Qatada "has been concerned in the instigation of acts of international terrorism".
A security source in Madrid said: "How much violence and bloodshed could have been prevented if Britain had heeded the warnings about this man a long time ago."
Authorities in many countries asked to question Qatada about his links to al-Qa'ida, but were refused.
A Jordanian, Qatada arrived in Britain with a forged passport in 1993 claiming asylum. Jordan told Britain he had been convicted of terror attacks in Amman seven months before September 11. Spanish investigators produced evidence of how a militant in custody in Madrid - Abu Dahdah - had visited the cleric more than 25 times, bringing money and recruits.

The western man has not the mental tools to

I don't think so at all! The more these sorts of things come out the more the world will take note. The Islamists and even the silent so-called "moderate" Muslims are doing us all a favor by publicizing their aims. Thank God for modern communications, the internet and the media. There was a time when people only knew what Muslims wanted us to know about Islam—BS like "Islam is peace" and half truths such as, "to kill one human being is to kill all of humanity."
But, now we all can check things out. Abu is clearly practicing taqiyya—as a good little Muslim.
Aside—(I have to say I got a real chuckle out of looking at Abu's photo. Given that Bush is constantly reminded of his simian looks by both Muslims and others alike, I have to say this fella looks rather like one of those little organ-grinder monkeys with the little pill box hat on. I can envision him scurrying about snatching coins from the hands of passers-by. Those monkeys bite!)

We are a demoralized sort.
Reading your post I don't think you are demoralized,
nor do I think Robert Spencer is demoralized. But
a critical mass of the population of Europe and the
US are drugged and easily manipulated, look no
further than Spain.
Yes, I am willing to sacrifice to protect my religion,
language, and all the rest. But I am in a minority.
Let this be a lesson to Britain and all those who think they can "negotiate" with Islam: NEVER TRUST A MUSLIM.
Peope in the West are programmed to be tolerant of religion. We have to be in order to conduct civil society that has so many diverse groups. Most people really don't care what religon is or if you have one. They expect people to behave within the established norms of society, which of course, are Judeo-Christian based. They can't grasp the concept that there is a religion that can be intolerant, because, at least in Christianity, religion means tolerance, a basic tenet. It's not that they are drugged, they can't understand the scope of the problem. They have HEARD certain things about Islam that horrify them. Because of the bombings, many are beginning to ask questions, hoping that the answers won't be too frightening. They need to be shown what to do.

the british were faced with Hitlers huge and powerful armies of extermination yet still managed to triumph. why because they woke up under the leadership of Churchill and silenced the appeasers.How difficult was it for America to come and help ! they had to have pearl Harbour !
So America too had its die hard appeasers to overcome.
Blair may be no Churchill but he's trying hard to be one. And he's got a hell of a tougher job than Bush because he's surrounded by traitors even inside his own cabinet.
