CNN starts to catch on: "What we are dealing here with is an ideology"

I've been saying it for two years (see Islam Unveiled and Onward Muslim Soldiers) publicly, and others for much longer, but it is reported at CNN as if it is news: we are not dealing with a single criminal organization -- Al-Qaeda -- in the war on terror, but with an ideology that is diffused throughout the world and could take generations to defeat. Kudos to CNN for finally catching on, although they wrongly attribute the global nature of jihad to a US-provoked splintering of Al-Qaeda:

"This is not like the Gambino crime family, a Mafia family, where if you just arrest the leaders it goes out of business," said Peter Bergen, a CNN terrorism expert and author of "Holy War, Inc.: Inside the Secret World of Osama bin Laden."

"This is more like a mass movement, and you can arrest as many people as you want. But it's very hard to arrest the movement of ideas." . . .

But experts such as MJ Gohel, a terrorism specialist at the Asia-Pacific Foundation, a London-based think tank, suggest the term al Qaeda is just shorthand for a complex global terror network.

"What we are dealing here with is an ideology," Gohel said. "It is a global jihad movement composed of al Qaeda and many affiliated terrorist groups. All of these groups are autonomous." . . .

Both government and private experts are bracing for what they say will be a war that could last for generations.

I'm comforted to know that the government is so on top of things.

I still believe that catching bin Laden will knock them down, at least a substantial amount. They'll likely try to "punish" us for his capture, but they lack the intelligence without him pulling the strings.

One of our main battles should include the ACLU, who is for some reason trying to stand up for every criminal it can. This includes terrorists and groups like CAIR, with whom they work very closely.

Decay is coming from within, and "epg" made a great statement on another post, that we, the people have the power to stop this, and we must.

Capturing or killing OBL will make as much difference as capturing Saddam - none. The vast interconnected web of jihad is not 'centered' at al-queda. The 'parts' will operate just as effectively w/o their 'famous' spokesperson. al-queda is just one of hundreds of muslim terror orgs doing their best to slaughter you, me and our children. give it a rest and pull together with your liberal brothers and sisters to fight to the death the global death machine.

Liberal brothers and sisters? Don't have any of them. And just how are the leftists, most of whom pander to civil rights of illegal immigrants and everyone else that creates potential risks to our safety plan to fight? With giving in? Submission? That's not an option, period.

At the risk of sounding as if I'm nagging, the expression "fight fire with fire" isn't limited to physical action. In our case, we must fight THEIR irrational ideas with our RATIONAL ideas.

They send their kids to schools where all they are exposed to from the very beginning is irrational ideas. We come close to doing the same with our kids--our educational system is definitely NOT our friend! Consider than it was created by Horace Mann, who had sentiments that led to Progressivism, which in turn led to the Liberals we see today, and who run our school system from K-12 and above, with all that this subsumes.

If we do not "catch on" to this fact, the fight will be longer and harder. We may even lose and have to "hit bottom" and then have to fight our way back to the light much the way we did after the Dark Age.

DC: I diagree about Bin Laden. It doesnt take intelligence to teach hatred. The idealogy can continue without him. He was just the icon the helped publicize it to the world. I would like to see Bin Laden dead or captured just for the sake of watching 80% of muslims become demoralized and depressed over their hate monger.

cubed, you are certainly right about our schools. I have three in school right now who were told they were going to learn about Islam in class.

I advised the schools that this was not a part of the normal curriculum, and that my kids would not be participating. There was no debate from them.

The teachers need to stay on track with their job and leave their personal feelings and thoughts out of the mix.

people better get it thru their heads that this started in 632 ad and only slowed down in 1683. now it has heated up again. maybe it will last another thousand years.

I know, Avatar. I mean the operations portion of their lunacy, not the teachings of hate. They're taught hate from their date of birth.

Bin Laden and his engineering degree, and past experience when fighting the Soviets has been beneficial to these jerks.

Demoralization of finding, capturing or killing this bag of bones will certainly affect everything, especially when it won't stop with him. Everyone knows how difficult it is to find the "needle in a haystack".

Again, we have major concerns right here, with the civil liberties groups that are fighting for the rights of some very bad people who threaten our way of life. This too needs to be addressed, straight away.

DC, at the risk of telling you what to think, CONSIDER that 'liberal' is not a weakness nor do LIBERALS want to 'negotiate' or 'surrender' to muslim death merchants. As a LIBERAL, I can tell you plainly that I will resist and fight to the DEATH if necessary the muslim DEATH CULT whereever it is found. STOP bashing liberals for the sins of socialists and communists. WE are all in this together. IF you choose to ONLY accept conservatives as FIGHTERS and NOT all your AMERICAN brothers and sisters you are GIVING the ENEMY AN ADVANTAGE. Muslim scum LOVE IT when they see the western enemy dividing.

why is it that almost every country that you goto there is this hatred for immigrants? if the illiegals where of germanic or british origin would people have less of a problem with them.

Still struggling with the concept of jihad, Joey? If Germanic or British immigrants organized themselves into terror cells and attacked their hosts, with the goal of destroying the host culture, we would respond accordingly.

As for hatred of immigrants and religions, are you pointing out the wave of vicious anti-Semitism currently under way in Europe? I didn't think you were...

Good points Tom...I can respect that. However, the liberals have not been error free, neither have the conservatives. I want to hear Kerry say what his plans are regarding this threat.

So far, I have heard nothing. If you have, please share it with me. And I don't mean sending Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton over to the sand to talk to these people either, that doesn't count.

Tom, understand that most liberals that come on this site, Joey for example, don't say what you've just said. The pander, meeley mouth, and back pedal.

Please send more that talk in fightin' words to this site. It's a refreshing change. You and I aren't in agreement about much I see, but we do appear to agree on this Radical Islamic Jihad Dr. Evil problem. That I can live with.

So, back to Kerry, where is he on this?

Joey, here we go again. You know, alot of immigrants that come over to the U.S. act like we're in their way, like we owe them. They can catch the first leaky boat back home as far as I'm concerned.

Joey, ladies and gentlemen, the CHAMPION of all peoples, except the Anti-Jihadists that is.

From the johnkerry.com site
-------------------------------
In a speech at the UCLA International Institute, Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry offered his comprehensive approach to fighting the global war on terrorism. In the second of a series of speeches on national security, Kerry presented a plan to identify, disrupt, and eliminate terrorist networks using all the resources at our disposal. As CIA Director George Tenet starkly reminded us this week, we are threatened by a far-flung terrorist network that will continue to operate even if Bin Laden is caught. Last December, John Kerry addressed the Council on Foreign Relations and outlined a global vision to make America safer and more secure. He is detailing the terrorism component of that vision, strengthening the nation’s position in the global war on terror.
----------------------------------------
what I'm reading here is that he might have a better handle on the size and scope of the death cult. We all know it's not JUST al-queda and obl.

Think Kerry means what he says and says what he means?

i would have no problem agreeing with your anti jihadist ideas the problem is you take it one step further and apply a anti middle eastern, muslim, immigrant slant to it that is scary. if you kept your focus on the actual jihadist minority instead of using it as a crutch for you own bias and predjudice against non christian non caucasian people.

Joseph - few Jihadists are anything but Middle Eastern, Muslim and recent immigrants of that background. If people of my own IBritish Isles background were coming here, employing bombs and threatening to overthrow and "impose" their religion and culture on us (again) after all these years, I would rise up against them, speak harshly of them, and send them packing, probably annihilating some of them on the way out.

We welcome all immigrants that are here in peace - but peace can not have a radical agenda, whether Irish Republican Army, Red Brigade, as some examples, or Radical Jihadists. Peace to us does not mean Peace within Islam where we are dhimmis in our own country. We will not tolerate any attempt by you, Joseph, or anyone else to impose Islamism on us. You can take that to the bank.

Please ask you moderate Islamic friends to condemn terrorism, to condemn the radicals, to join with us on the front lines AGAINST these people. Those that won't probably are with them because silence is a tacit approval of what they are doing.

DC,
'I have three in school right now who were told they were going to learn about Islam in class.
I advised the schools that this was not a part of the normal curriculum, and that my kids would not be participating.'

Alternatively, volunteer to give the lecture.
That would be fun.

why would i immpose islam on you im a athiest and i feel that govt should have no religous backing or leanings at all. im more afraid of christian fundimentalist forcing there crap on me now then of muslims. now peter if the school had a class discussion on the new testement would you then be all for it.....

Peter, that would be a hoot. Tom, thanks for the good research you provided, and I hope you're right. We still need to watch how our laws are being manipulated here. Republican or Democrat, conservative or liberal, we need to watch some of our politicians like Kucinich who wines and dines with CAIR and other groups like them. They want to buddy up with politicians in an attempt to sway them toward voting for laws that favor Islam. That's my opinion anyway.

We all have to watch for, and stamp out the undermining that civil liberties groups are attempting. They work to make the victims out to be the criminals and vice versa. We cannot have a lawless society with no guidelines to follow.

Groups like CAIR are a menace in my opinion. They've been tied to Hamas, and have had some of their members convicted of terror related crimes, visa fraud, and bank fraud. Yet they remain in operation. WHY?

Our politicians, on both sides need to answer this question. Unless they're leaving them open for Intel purposes, which is possible, but it's sickening that they're in business.

"epg"-thank you too.

Joseph,.......Here you go with more name calling.....you meely mouth little pansie. I'm not going to dignify your spewing of puke with an arguement.

Joseph, I'd expect it, and it does happen, because my child goes to a Christian school. If his school discussed the beliefs of other faiths, this is also fine.
Unfortunately, most people teaching about islam are reading from the 'religion of peace' script, because they simply do not understand the inherrant evil of this movement. Even worse, there are plenty of islamists volunteering to go to schools and educate the teachers and students as to what they are really about. I think it would be a very good thing to offer your local schools some good quality data and judicious quranic quotes if they decide to do the islamic awareness thing.

Joseph,
Christian fundamentalists pretty much do not kill you if you disagree with them. They don't fly airliners into buildings. They don't blow up trains. They don't blow up vacationing Westerners. They don't blow up supermarkets full of people. They don't blow up Shiites. They don't blow up Sunnis. They don't kill Buddhist monks. And they don't kill atheists as a matter of policy.

jay

im glad christians grew out of that whole sacking cities stuff... crusades where a real pain....

if "christian fundimentalist" is name calling then what are they... they believe the bible literally

Joey,

You are drifting off topic again. Christians won't kill you for being an athiest. Muslims will. As for that whole sacking cities stuff, Napolean, the Kaiser, and Hitler were doing it much more recently in your very civilized Europe.

here you go joseph in history what sort of religion gets an 11 year old to carry a bomb through a military checkpoint and btw it failed to detonate and yes a few years back i believed the religion of peace crap till i researched it

ok please no liberal bashing i too am a former libertarian now i class myself as a jeffersonian style liberal and i find i have more in common mentally and morally with republicans the leftist commie pricks have fouled the true meaning of being a liberal

Joseph,

"im glad christians grew out of that whole sacking cities stuff... crusades where a real pain...."

Yes. The Christians HAVE pretty much outgrown their medieval behavior. Alas, the Muslims haven't.

jay

As a doubting athiest, I have no fear of fundamentalist Christianity for the same reason that I have no fear of fundamentalist Buddhism. Besides, I realise that the universal civilised values of liberal democracy, are founded on Christian precepts and by devout Christians for the most part.

As for Muslims, I wonder when they will realise that Islam is a millstone that they have hung around their necks. I sometimes think that their obsession to convert or dhimmify the rest of us, is simply to lighten their own load.
They dont seem to realise that their timeless and genocidal hatred of Jews, Christians, Hindus, Athiests, etc does not damage us half as much as it damages them.

Muslims will always be backward; culturally and socially, as long as they persist in carrying this baggage of Mohammed on their backs.
