More "Muslim-Christian tensions" in which the victims all seem to be Christian. From Reuters:
Egyptian authorities deployed some 1,000 police around a southern town on Saturday to forestall any Muslim-Christian clashes after two Christian men were killed in a street brawl, security sources said. The Christians were axed to death after a donkey being ridden by a Muslim man slipped on the wet roadway outside their house in the town of Salamoun, about 350 km (220 miles) south of Cairo, they said.The donkey rider was later arrested and questioned. Witnesses in the town said there had been no further violence but the situation was tense.
Salamoun, a Nile valley town of about 40,000 people, is close to 40 percent Coptic Christian but was also a stronghold of militant Islamists who fought the government in the 1990s.
Tensions between the Muslim and Christian communities are a sporadic problem in southern Egypt. The last major outbreak of violence was in 1999, when 20 Christians were killed and 33 people wounded in the southern village of Kosheh.

It's a wonder that all of the other religions haven't just taken matters into their own hands and retaliated to the point of getting all of this violence under control.
The blood thirst of these radicals is unrelenting. I still don't see a valid reason for it. Probably because there isn't one. Unbelievable, isn't it? I just can't believe that all of us around the world have continued to let this go on.

The wall in Israel is certainly a necessity. No matter the cost. The Palestinians want to go into Israel and work to make a living, but here we go again, no moderate Muslims are lifting a finger to stop the suicide bombers.

The so-called moderate Muslims won't say a thing because the bombings are part of Islamic creed. If one reads the Sura of War, violent Jihad is an obligation for ALL Muslims. Thus, the radicals are pushing forward through violent means what all Muslims want, the return of the Caliphate and dhimmitude for the rest of us. Guess I'd have to agree w/several comments of others.
1) ANYTIME a Muslim can blame someone else for his/her problems, it's a certainty to happen.
(I'm SURE all of Arafat's personal 1.3 billion is only from his contracts as an engineer.)It couldn't be that he's taking advatage of his own people..it's all Israels fault, whatever it is.
2) God above, why the Israeli's haven't gone totally postal, and done as King Hussain of Jordan had to do when the "Palestinians" were guests of Jordan, I just don't know. The "Palestinians" showed the same ingratitude, larceny and violence to their own "brothers & sisters" in Jordan.

If you defend islam you are one of 2 things.
1-A bad guy. You know what your religion is, and you like it.

To the guys in category 2. I am not a mohommadan, but I was brought up hearing the mantra that 'islam is a religion of peace,' repeatedly, but it didn't sit well with what I was seeing on the news. I decided I really needed to investigate and work out why this could be. The first biography I read i was shocked by the behavior of this man, and didn'y really want to believe it could be the case.(this biography was written by a man who believed the quran to be divine!)
I then decided to read further. Next book was "Muhammad" by Maxime Rodinson.
This man is NOT a member of a religion hostile to Islam. He writes the book as someone admiring Mohommad in the same way as many people admire successsful tyrants like Alexander the Great or Napoleon. But he is forced to conclude that he is a self serving man.
To all people in group 2. Please read about the history of your religion from sources other than what your leaders want you to. Ask yourself if;
1-can you follow a man who claimed to be a good example of how all men should behave, but was a worse person than most moslems. He raped. He killed. He was responsible for the 'ethnic cleansing' of Medina, he had people who slighted him murdered in their sleep, he did not even keep to the rules he gave other people.
2-If the quran is inspired, how is it that there is NO new teaching. The only new thing which Allah tells us through his 'greatest prophet' is that mohommad is great and you should try and be like him.
3-if the quran is inspired, why is it so full of anachronisms. Mohommad believed that Aaron was the uncle of Jesus. If they are both historical figures they lived over a thousan years apart. There are many other huge errors like this, because all that is in the quran, apart from 'revalations' which excused Mohammads behaviour are badly remembered versions of stories which occur in the Bible, the Talmud and some of the non-canonical gospels.
Do not respect a thing just because it is old. Look at your religion and consider, if someone told me these things today, that I am the greatest person and you should do as I say, but lived the life of a paranoid and vengeful despot, how would you treat him.
Do not repect a thing just because your parents gave you this religion. Ask yourself why your family are muslim. Almost certainly because at some point in the past, Islam invaded their country and gave them a choice. Live as a muslim, or as a dhimmi, or die.
I suspect that the people who post are the tip of the iceberg. If you are a silent muslim looking at this site, please, keep coming back. Read the news stories. See what your religion does week in, week out. And examine your conscience.
To Peter's post, another good, recent book is Irshad Manji's "The Trouble with Islam" (or whatever it is entitled when published in your part of the world).
Theologically, I do not know whether her basic premise holds in Islam- she is essentially calling for a decentralised "Reformation" of islam, through a process called "ijtihad" or critical thinking. But her central premise is that mohammedans do not understand, nor do they question, their religion. And they must for the islamic world to make any sort of progress into modernity.
To put her thesis in perspective, why was this incident triggered when his donkey slipped- rather than when his Arab-designed and -manufactured fuel-cell-powered vehicle broke down? Sorta to Bernard Lewis' point in "What Went Wrong"- the (especially Arab) islamic world lives in a backward, benighted state, relying on fantastic, often anti-Semitic justification for all of their societies' numerous failings.

Unbelieveable photos of Taliban and Al Qaida combatants in U.S. custody, and they're tied up. Then the remarks about the abuse of Human Rights by Americans.....Hello.."Praised One", these were radical Islamists that were caught trying to kill American soldiers in Afghanistan, we're not gonna prop them up on couches so they can watch cable t.v.. (Just a side note, there were no photographs of any of these rats being beaten.)
