Sami Omar Al-Hussayen, formerly a high profile Muslim student activist at the University of Idaho, has been charged with ties to Hamas. He maintains his innocence. From FoxNews, :

A graduate student from Saudi Arabia — already jailed on immigration charges — has been accused of helping to raise funds for a militant Palestinian organization. Sami Omar Al-Hussayen was charged with conspiracy to provide material support to terrorism after federal prosecutors said he helped run Web sites that urge people to contribute money to Hamas.

But an attorney for Al-Hussayen, a computer science student at the University of Idaho, said his client is innocent.

"I think that what is going on here is that when you have an innocent man, it is extremely difficult to articulate charges against him," said David Nevin, who learned of the indictment from a reporter Thursday.

Al-Hussayen, 34, has been in a jail near Boise since being arrested at his Moscow home in February 2003. He was charged then with student visa fraud and making false statements to obtain a visa.

On Jan. 9, federal prosecutors won an indictment adding the new charge.

Al-Hussayen is scheduled to stand trial April 13. If convicted on the new charge, he could get up to 15 years in prison.

The seven visa fraud charges carry 25-year maximum sentences, and the four false-statements counts have five-year maximums.

Al-Hussayen's wife and children have returned to Saudi Arabia after being ordered by immigration officials to leave.

A 34 year old student? Will he graduate before he is 40? And who is paying his tuition, uncle Sam or Hamas? Too many of these "students" in their thirties turn out to be cell organizers, like our old pal Mohammad Atta.

"it is extremely difficult to articulate charges against him," but apparently the government has managed to articulate the charges. Let's see him articulate a defense, now.

Another Saudi? man, we need to have a serious chat with the Saudi Family....and not over there....here. In our yard, on our terms. They aren't fooling anyone anymore.

And I agree, a 34 year old student? Ya right.

When will we revise immigration? This should be right on the top of the issue pile during the Presidential race with terrorism and the economy.

They are all innocent... Always. We are just a bunch of paranoid muslim haters!

Oh and don't forget......we always take everything they say and do....."out of context"

Isn't it amazing that there are so many students in their mid-30's+ out marching and demonstrating in various Muslim countries.....do these people EVER work?

It sounds like our law enforcement agencies have been pretty successful lately. Now lets just hope that the courts do their jobs.

Do you guys realize that the "mainstream" Muslim group in USA, CAIR, was actually formed by Hamas?

Hamas makes the PLO seem like a kindgergarten organization. Hamas states that jihad is forever. Fight the unbelievers in wherever you find them, even in their own lands. Now, Hamas has come to the United States. One guess why they're here. The problem is that official Washington doesn't seem to get it.

Please click on the link to Anti-CAIR from this site. It will give legitimate quotes from some of the upper level personalities at CAIR.

They've tried to have what they've said removed from print, but were unsuccessful. Since they can't obtain a retraction, they simply state that what they said was "taken out of context".

With this approach, they have only succeeded in insulting America's intelligence.

i knew this guy! he is innocent! he sis a lot for the community and was involved with many other organizations within the islamic and other faith communities. he tried to help out anyone, even if they were not muslim. once a man asked him, in front of me, about the 9/11 attacks and sami said that they were horrible and the people who could do such a thing are not muslims. why would he support a terrorist group? i do not believe these allegations!

I can see him planting a bomb and then hiding in a hole -- like his jihadi cohorts. When are we going to wake up??? For all those apologists for Islam -- do you know that the jihad folks are laughing at how stupid you are ?
