Think Saudi Arabia is reforming? Think again. Also note that Saudi Arabia most closely approximates today the society that radical Muslims want to visit on the rest of the world. From CNN, with thanks to Nicolei:
Four "liberal reformists" have been arrested in Riyadh and Jeddah for making statements that do "not serve the unity of the country," the kingdom's Interior Ministry has said. One of the people detained is a lawyer, known for his political and social activism, and two others are professors of political science.
All are known for calling for major changes in the kingdom and for their support of a constitutional monarchy.
"A number of people have been arrested for questioning regarding accusations and allegations that they had issued statements that do not serve the unity of the country and the community, which is based on Islamic sharia," the statement from the Interior Ministry said.
Sharia law is based on the tenets of Islam.
count on the human rights groups and left-wing hubris-filled philosophical diletantes to look the other way on this. in the bizarro world, america is the real evil perpetrator of human rights abuses and all other countries can get a pass in their attempts to stay as different from us as possible. these arrests will be considered just part of the self-determination of a wonderful society full of rich culture and wonderful people who by their very nature commit no crimes and have been -- through no fault of their own and probably because they are so wonderful and peace-loving -- exploited by the evil oil-consuming empire.
No reference in the English language edition of the Arab News in the past two days about this.
