Halabi being escorted to his arraignment (AP)
Daniel Pipes reveals some extraordinary information about Guantanamo interpreter and US Air Force Senior Airman Ahmad al Halabi at FrontPage:
Halabi, a 25-year-old translator of Syrian origins, says he was naturalized as a U.S. citizen after joining the Air Force in January 2000, though this is a disputed matter. He spent nine months working as an Arabic language interpreter in Guantánamo and was arrested on July 23, 2003, at Jacksonville Naval Air Station, on his way to his own wedding ceremony in Syria. When apprehended, he had 186 unauthorized classified documents on on his laptop computer. The 32 charges against him made public in September 2003 included 11 counts of failing to obey a lawful general order or regulation; 3 counts of aiding the enemy, 4 counts of espionage; 9 counts of making a false statement; bank fraud and violations of the Federal Espionage Act. More specifically, he was charged with:
• Downloading classified documents to his personal laptop computer;
• Making illegal contact with the Syria embassy in Washington;
• Failing to report unauthorized communications between U.S. troops and detainees;
• E-mailing details about the base's flight schedule to individuals in Syria;
• Attempting to deliver information about detainees at Guantánamo; and
• Collecting 180 messages from those detainees with the intent to deliver them to known enemies.
While the majority of the charges concern classified information (and their phrasing suggests that in most cases al Halabi did not succeed in delivering his information), three others catch the eye. As CNN describes these three:
One charge accuses al Halabi of delivering unauthorized food, including baklava pastries, to detainees. Another charge accuses al Halabi of “executing a scheme” to obtain credit from seven banks by providing false information. A third charge accuses al Halabi of denying any knowledge of Wahhabism, when the “statement was totally false.” … It is unclear what connection, if any, the Wahhabism has with the espionage charges.
In January 2004, the Air Force dropped several of the most serious charges, including the single count that carried the death penalty, that of “aiding the enemy.” Other dropped charges concerned e-mailing information about Guantánamo detainees and transmitting information to unauthorized recipients. Halabi now faces seventeen charges; the court-martial, expected to begin April 27, 2004, at Travis Air Force Base in northern California, could send him to prison for life without parole.
During court-martial proceedings, military prosecutors revealed that Halabi is also the subject of a second, separate counterintelligence probe; and he may face criminal charges in addition to the spying charges.
(To complicate matters further, Marc Palmosina, a special agent in the Air Force Office of Special Investigations who had worked on the Halabi case, is under investigation for mishandling classified documents and has been removed from this case.)
At the court-martial, Halabi will likely proclaim ignorance that the documents he was carrying were classified. But that will be a tough sell, as early on he acknowledged as much to investigators; and he also postal mailed 60 pages of classified documents to his home in California.
Then there is another piece of evidence, which I am revealing here, and it pertains to Halabi’s personal website at http://www.geocities.com/ahmad564/. (geocities.com is a free web page hosting service, so his site should remain indefinitely available, despite his incarceration.)
The website contains a miscellany of items that interested Halabi. He lists news from Arab League member states, the Islamic prayer times, pictures of Arab pop music stars, airplanes, and the like.
Then there are some items of greater relevance. Clicking on the “r” in “SrA/USAF” on the left side of the page takes you via a secret link leads to a hidden romantic page with flowers, several pictures of a woman, and this warning:
This is a private Web Page For RANA DALI
Only authorized persons may view this page.Clicking on “Go to Ahmad’s Picture in Cuba” then brings up three pages of pictures of Halabi.
• The first has pictures taken at Captain Yee’s residence, with a tughra-style “In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful” at the top of the page.
• The second posts standard military-style pictures of Halabi in Kuwait – standard except for the anomalous presence of the Syrian flag waving at the top of the page.
• The third seems to be a Muslim-only page, with captions like “Group picture on EID Day,” “EID party, Dec 6 2002. From Right To left, Ahmad, Tabasom, Katib, Chaplin Yousif and Ahmad,” and “On the ferry from Right to left: Rabi, Tony, Bahlawan, Tariq and Ahmad.” This page features both the tughra and the Syrian flag.
In preliminary arguments, prosecutors stated that while Halabi was undergoing a preliminary hearing, someone accessed his website and altered it. Worries about Halabi’s computer skills are one reason why he will remain incarcerated as his case moves forward. In the words of Military Judge Col. Barbara Brand, “His computer prowess continues to pose a threat.”
Halabi’s website spurs two thoughts. First, Halabi appears to be computer savvy enough to have sent off information without the U.S. authorities being aware of what he had done.
Second, according to a search warrant prepared to have access to his mail, Halabi “made statements criticizing United States policy with regard to the detainees and U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East,” then lied about making such statements. Combining this hostile political outlook with the nearly exclusive focus on fellow Muslims in the web pages leads this observer to wonder about Halabi’s loyalties.
Yet another example of treason, which is not a mistake, but a sin, regardless of religion and what logic a person incorporates into justification for an act that endangers the lives of anyone living in the West, let alone America.
The sooner the military has this man peeling potatos and emptying latrines in a military prison uniform the better! No mercy to those that kill indirectly or directly simply for the sake of killing innocents (so called jihad?). It's time all Americans crack down and wake up to reality, that harsh penalties will work against terrorism, and being forgiving to these nutcases only breeds more of the religious based evil filth that captures the minds of those that are fertile to grow its cause and purpose....violence for the sake of it. No mercy for those that embrace evil under religious cloaking. Hope he enjoys prison life! He made a choice and now he lives with it's consequences!

Robert, the geocities page currently says 'Sorry, this site is temporarily unavailable!'
I don't suppose anyone got a screen capture of it?
It seems to me that Muslims pose a serious security/loyalty risk to any free non-Islamic society. They seem driven by a fusion of national and religious loyalties, either one of which alone can be a potent driving force in an individual's character. Now, when their religion is one which clearly maintains that all people and nations must be brought under submission to their god, that they must hate all who do not believe as they do, that all nations must live under Islamic law, that their source of beliefs is infallible and immutable, that it is permissible to lie to (1) save one's life, (2) advance the cause of Islam, (3) avoid giving offense, and (4) to a woman for any reason.....
Well, how, please tell me, does one safely accept such a person into one's society, bestow citizenship, issue a security clearance, put under oath, grant a commission, place in any position of trust, or even offer asylum? The more I learn about Islam the more convinced I become that those who follow it's teachings must be regarded as harmful bacteria!
At the very same time...Halabi was a "spy" for the Nation of Islam....the United States Air Force at Travis Air Force Base was spending $200,000 of the tax payers money in prosecuting Master Sergeant Richard Giddens for "uttering" the words "Allah Dammit" as he tried to get a mechanic to fix a dangerous mechanical problem on a large cargo plane (C-5a).
During Operation Enduring Freedom, Master Sergeant Giddens was having a dispute with a mechanic, who was refusing to repair two sparking wires that ran through a fuel tank, if not fixed, would cause the plane to blow up. The mechanic refused to fix the wires. Giddens in frustration said: "G-d dammit, Allah Dammit, just fix it." The mechanic, who had already had an Article 15 and several reprimands for refusing to fix aircraft, waited 31 days and filed an EEOC complaint. The mechanic was NOT A MOSLEM!
Giddens and his friends said "Allah Dammit" in the previous weeks on the flight line...as a joke, wondering what curse words Moslems used. The US Air Force, being `politcally correct,' tried to take Giddens stripes away, his retirement, and incarcerate him in Leavenworth Federal Prison. Giddens refused an Article 15, and went to trial. This enraged Col. "Marshall" Dillon, who brought charges against him.
The finding was a guilty verdict of using "provoking words... "Allah Dammit" and a $500 fine. Apparently, one can say "G-d Dammit" and also refuse to fix an aircraft carrying soldiers into battle. But, one cannot offend a Moslem. Offending a Moslem...is worse than spying against the United States!
The lazy and incompetent mechanic is now off the flight line, cleaning aircraft parts in a remote part of the United States.
Halabi is finally being put on trial. But, Yee's charges have been dropped.
Giddens kept his stripes, and his retirement, but his faith in the United States Air Force is destroyed.
"Allah Dammit" is now part of my repetoir of curse words, and I now use it frequently.

No Joey, it sounds like the definition of a mohommadan.
Arresting someone for dealing with classified material in an unprofessional manner, and then investigating to see if there was a more sinister agenda, that's just good sense.
The most charitable interpretation of this mans behaviour is he was a fool, but his technical resume suggests he was certainly able and educated. Any suggestion he didn't know there was a problem with his behaviour is therefore problematically. This points in turn to the not unreasonable suggestion that this looks like 'giving aid to the enemy in a time of war.'
Joeyrrhea: I'm not gonna go out on a limb here, but I am gonna call you a jerk.
Jerk: term for somebody who is regarded as behaving foolishly.
Firing squad.
Bill: Firing squad.
Hood Jihadi: Weren't you guys the same who thought the electric chair will eliminate us black people?
Dick Cheney was one time a spy for Israel during his time as a White House assistant and look what happened to him and where he is now. I am sure they will release our boy because he looks good in them uniform - 10/10 for style.
This is just the begining of the infultration of the military, government, schools, churchs, and the brain washing of your young. The cancer of islam must be stoped and destroyed.
Hood Jihadi - Not "in the service of infidels tonight," I hope. What's this business with "our boy." If this traitor spying for your side? If you are a U.S. citizen, he's not on YOUR side. He's a traitor to YOUR country. Of course, as far as I can tell, Muslims don't make national identity something to value. Thus, they can all be potential spies, potential traitors. If you aren't a U.S. citizen, an residing in the United States, we need to determne whether or not you have violated the terms of your visa and take appropriate action.
You are right, he is cute in his uniform, very dashing. Who wouldn't look good properly dressed in U.S. Military garb?
As for Dick Cheney as a spy. Who can tell. Perhaps you have verifiable documents, videos, pictures, or other "real" evidence to prove your allegation? If not, it's just an allegation, nothing more.
Hi Hoodie
"I am sure he would have given you a warning if you were black like me."
So let me get this straight. RS has some device that allows him to tell someones ethnicity from their email. Scary!
That's called paranoia mr Jihadi.

I'm sure you have friends that are just like you. Of course their race, ethnicity, etc. are impossible to ascertain over the internet. If they are like you, I have determined that they are misogynistic, religiously bigoted, and a racist, attitudes that are reflected in the comments in your various posts. That's just for starters, but I prefer to discuss philosophical, political, and other matters that pertain to the serious and untenable state in which we find ourselves today.
Please go "serve infidels," a remark that you will never live down on this site, one that reveals the true you. If you referred to your employer or customers that you serve, then you insult them by calling them infidels. If you refer to your time with us, then the result is the same.
You can never see a non-Muslim as anything other than an infidel, a word demonstrating great repugnance and loathing on the part of the speaker. Very few words in the Muslim vocabulary hold greater negative significance than does this one. We are subhuman as long as you see us this way.
I'll make a deal with you Hooded One, I'll not be rude to you, if you'll cease playing yet another phony race card, making dumbass remarks. This website, as far as I know, doesn't image all of our facial profiles.
Besides, no one here gives a crap what color you are, we care about what comes off those fingers of yours and translates into type.
You come on here with the name Hood Jihadi, making the remarks you've made, and you can expect some less than flattering dialogue....Savvy?
Regarding this "Hooded" Muslim...I would like to point out that while the Quran ultimately recommends the death of infidels, when that is impossible, as it is on this forum, they are commanded to strive against the infidels... Posting ignorant accusations based on racists religious teaching is one way to "strive" against us non muslims (AKA Infidels).
Talking seriously to any Muslim is difficult as they are trained liars. Arguing with them is like arguing with a bad little kid. As we all know you can not make any headway with words in that situation...But a good sound boot in the rear-end seems to communicate very well. Lets see? How would we boot "hooded" in the rear-end on line? How about totally ignoring him?
Knowing that he is reading the truth about his fellow Muslim sandrats on this site ought to be satisifying enough for any red blooded American! Answering his retoric ought to be deemed beheath us...
If all muslims in the military were put under surveillance,i can bet anything 99% of them would turn out to be traitors.
It usually takes America a long time to wake up and put all of its mighty powers in motion, but once it does, there`s nothing to stop it.
It will take some more time, but Americal will eventually wake up and wipe islam off the face of the earth.
susan,
thank you for your insightfull understanding of the islamic cult. this is the place to get the truth and we will always be able to get the correct info here. i have had to stop using my personal email on this because i have been attacked by lots and lots of virusus but i am hopping that we can use this page for comunicating in a free society and ignoring the trouble makers of the world.
HJ and all that would undermine the United States, please read "More to U.S. Citizenship Than An Address on the Birth Ceritificate."

wow adela
its your daily bigoted statement
"If all muslims in the military were put under surveillance,i can bet anything 99% of them would turn out to be traitors."
you know its not healthy to have as much hate as you do
joseph
Adela is responding to an internal feeling of mistrust. This mistrust is the result of feeling betrayed by members of the military that, instead of protecting our country, are actually spys and traitors. Who are these spys and traitors? At present these traitorous military are acting in for the benefit of Islam, not for the benefit of the American people and the Constitution whom they swore to protect.
The expectation of loyalty to the United States and its values is implicit in the donning of the uniform. However, if Muslims insist upon putting the tenets of their faith before the oath they took to protect the American people, they should not be in the military.
Joey, that's the third person you've called a bigot in the last 20 hours. Little Mo. You must be someone with a ton of low self esteem, most likely beat up on the playground all through school, made to carry the lunch trays of those who picked on you.
Poor soul, you're just too weak at heart to behave like a man. You play ostrich and put your 33 pound head in the sand, hoping all the hate will go away. Well goober, until the people you call us bigots for confronting are eliminated from the rock, namely Islamic extremists, then the hate will remain.
You can choose to fight them, or you can choose to become spineless goo, like you.
Why you all even respond to Joey is beyond me. He is a complete idiot. He never has anything creative to say, and I believe if we just quit responding to him he will slink away and troll somewhere else.
Joeyrrhea?
how can you defend statements like hers
i can understand being angry at a individual but then to attack a entire group is insane
and what is not bigoted about what she said
it would be like me attacking all christians for the fundies that exist on this forum. majority of christians are not like you same for muslims who a majority are not suicide bombers
she is a bigot and so are you d.c. accept what you are. you hate islam you hate muslims you are fundamentalist reactinary christians who believe we are in some religous war i wouldnt be suprised if some people here did not feel that we are in some early stages of the rapture.
i can understand being against the jihadist movement but you are taking it to another level to a religious and racial bias that is just plain un-american and un-christian.
then again what would i know im just a dhimmi in your eyes

And just what do you think Radicals of Islam do every minute of every day? huh genius?
Joey, you are an amazing creature.
exactly and its wrong
and we should not lower ourselves to thinking or acting like that towards them.
Well if you think we're just gonna let these tramps run us over, you're as dumb as your commentary.
When you're in a fight, you have to defend yourself and also go on the offensive to win. I wouldn't expect you to comprehend that. Not you Joeyrrhea.
Joseph,if being a proud american is in your opinion a bigot, then yes,i am a bigot.
If i am attacked in my own house by a group of people whom i have welcomed in my house as guests and trusted them and provided them with shelter, freedom, education, material subsistance, etc ,and i have to defend myself,my house and my family from the killer intruders, and if that means (in your opinion) being a bigot, then, yes i am a bigot.
If my country is being invaded by a group of people that have clearly stated that their only purpose is to destroy us,and if i want to defend my country against such invaders and if i ask my government to protect my nation ,my family and my country against the invaders,if all these mean i am a bigot, then yes i am a bigot.
If a MUSLIM soldier in the US Army throws grenades into fellow american soldiers` compounds and kills a few in the process,if a MUSLIM translator with a government agency ,gives intentionally inacurate reports,if a MUSLIM sniper kills several cilvilians in our cities ,if a MUSLIM chapelain provides classified information to other MUSLIM countries,if a MUSLIM convert volunteers information to the enemy, and many, many, many other examples just like the above ones,if all these things hapen in my country, and if our people will make a common front to DESTROY ISLAM,if all these things mean i am a bigot, then yes,i am a bigot and proud of being one.

just testing
that it is permissible to lie to (1) save one's life, (2) advance the cause of Islam, (3) avoid giving offense, and (4) to a woman for any reason.....
Posted by AERO,
What you posted is 100% wrong. IN Islam you can only lie without getting sins under three circumstances:
1)If your wife is ugly and she asks you "am I beautiful?" you say "yes" (or if she can't cook and asks "aren't I a good cook?" you say yes) and so on and so forth...
2)You can Lie to make peace between two people e.g. 2 people are fighting and you go to one and say you know so and so said good things about you, and vice versa to help them make peace.
3)The third circumstance is when you are capyured by the enemy in a war or something and they ask you for information, you can lie.
As you can see all three circumstances are perfectly understandable to lie in. I do not blame AERO for posting wrong information, it is just that a lot of people have a lot of misconceptions about Islam.
And yes trustislam.com is a good site for Muslims and non muslims alike...
Actually, Abdullah, Suras 3:28 and 16:106 allow a Muslim to lie about his religion when under pressure, as long as he holds the truth in his heart. This, of course, became the foundation of the Shi'ite doctrine of taqiyya, or religious concealment, which is also subscribed to by many Salafis today.
