More threats from Al-Qaeda, from The Evening Standard:
One of the most senior figures in the al Qa'eda terror group has pledged that 2004 will be a year of attacks on America.The comments appeared on an Islamist website and are believed to have come from Abdulaziz Issa Abdul-Mohsin al-Moqrin.
The website also carries a warning that Saudi Arabian rulers will be unable to prevent further attacks.
However, he also claims that al Qa'eda was not behind last week's suicide car bombing of a security building in the Saudi capital Riyadh.
Security officials believe that al-Moqrin is al-Qa'eda's leader in Saudi Arabia, with a major police operation currently attempting to capture him.
The Al Haramain Brigades, a Saudi militant group, have claimed responsibility for last week's Riyadh attack and said they were filling in for al Qaeda, which was preoccupied fighting "crusaders".

Their "empty threats" are part of the terror cylce, raising the level of fear and concern, playing with our emotions. Once there is a return to a feeling of safety, the real attack occurs. The attackers hope that we will consider all threats to be "empty," as in the "Boy That Cried Wolf" whose final warning before the destruction occured was ignored. We can't afford either ot ignore threats or to remain vulnerable as it will be psychologically impossible to maintain a heightened sense of theat. We must improve warning and security systems.
I'll tell you what's going to happen in the US and Europe if another Islamic attack occurs.
Across towns and cities both big and small, for months if not years, average people on their way to work will pass by yet another Muslim who somehow mysteriously hanged himself from a lamp post during the night. And nobody will have seen nor heard anything at all.
I guess there'll have to be a commission set up to try to figure out why Muslims all of a sudden started hanging themselves.

We can't just "improve warning and security systems." That is just like building a thicker, taller wall or adding more armor plate. In the contest between armor and projectile it is axiomatic: PROJECTILE ALWAYS ULTIMATELY WINS. So no matter how good our "security systems" are, the enemy will eventually find a weak spot or a hole.
What can we do then?
The solution in this war is what it has always been in war. TAKE THE OFFENSIVE. Do not react to the enemy; make him react to us. Stop worrying about what he may do to us and make him start worrying about what we are going to do to him.
Follow the example set by Gen. Grant in the Civil War when he told his field commanders, "Where Lee goes there you shall also go." Go into the enemy's own back yard (front yard, living room, bedroom, etc.)and hit him. Hit him hard. Hit him harder than you think necessary to bring him down. Then, when he is down, keep beating him until he begs you to let him surrender on your terms.
It is OK to be magnanimous in victory like Grant was to Lee, but don't make the mistake of thinking that you can do it before you have won.
