Al-Sadr supporters take over Najaf

Many analysts have spoken of how nice it would be if As-Sadr were arrested by Iraqis. This is like saying it would be nice if he decided to set up an Islamic state on the moon instead of in Iraq. The man has an army of thousands around him, and numerous supporters, won over by his appeals to Islamic purity.

From CNN:

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Supporters of maverick Muslim cleric Muqtada al-Sadr controlled government, religious and security buildings in the holy city of Najaf early Tuesday evening, according to a coalition source in southern Iraq.

The source said al-Sadr's followers controlled the governor's office, police stations and the Imam Ali mosque, one of Shia Muslim's holiest shrines.

Iraqi police were negotiating to regain their stations, the source said.

The source also said al-Sadr was busing followers into Najaf from Sadr City in Baghdad and that many members of his outlawed militia, Mehdi's Army, were from surrounding provinces.

Business people are closing their shops and either leaving the city or hoarding their wares in their homes, the source said.

Late Tuesday, U.S. Marines moved into Fallujah from several directions, coming under heavy fire from insurgents.

The move comes the day after U.S. Marines sealed off Fallujah in response to the killing and mutilation of four American civilian security contractors last week.

About 1,300 troops from the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, along with Iraqi armed forces, set up a cordon around the city Monday, said Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt, a U.S. military spokesman in Baghdad. The operation has been dubbed Operation Vigilant Resolve.

"The source also said al-Sadr was busing followers into Najaf from Sadr City " WTF? Who is running the show in Iraq- the Yanks or this islmothug?

Cordon off Sadr City, incinerate the first few vehicles trying to leave for Najaf, immobilize the airwaves, impose a dusk to dawn curfew, shoot anyone seen with a gun or in a balaclava in Najaf. Proceed to cut off the electricity and water if the unrest continues. Hunt down and arrest al-Sadr.

Am I missing something? Who is running the show in Iraq???? This is unbelieveable...

remember the highway of death in the first gulf war?

Instead of putting Allied Forces in danger, the mosque and all who are surrounding it should be bombed from the air. Those that try to flee can be picked off - or 'arrested' - by the forces surrounding the city. Enough is enough!

In 1885 the British were engaged in a war against the Mahdi.
But the real war was against the "fallen" muslims who were the leaders of Sudan. Its doubtful that the Brits even realised this in their colonial arrogance.
The British were supporting the Apostate leaders and advocating for example ,the liberation of Sudan.s women .
The Mahdi were sent by Allah to reestblish true Islam, uncorrupted by the decadence of western influence.
With regards to Iraq , a similar situation exists but as in Sudan in 1880s, the primary targets will have to be the "fallen muslims" who will be attacked as soon as the US forces leave.
For every Mahdist Mullah , there are dozens in the background.
Any attempt to establish a democracy , will be regarded as an attack on Islam by the US and its Allies.
AN Islamic democracy is an oxymoron. No such state can ever exist in the LONG TERM.
We have to face the fact that the US, whatever its good intentions towards the Iraqi people is on a hiding to nothing.
As much as a democracy in the ME would be a watershed for change , Islam will never let it happen.

What folk don't seem to realize is that the US forces in Iraq are militarily incapable of "incinerating" every Iraqi doing anything.

In fact, the Green Zone has been locked down, Paul Bremer couldn't fly to DC because the International Airport has been under constant mortar fire, and US and occupation bases are being overrun across the country -- just from the official admitted list of bases that have been overrun: the US base in Ramadi, the Italian base in Nassiriyah, the Ukrainian-Polish base in Kut, the British base in Basra. Plus, at least three US offensives against targets in Fallujah have been defeated and US troops have retreated and run away -- there was videos of two squad sized units beating a very disorganized retreat from positions in Fallujah on Reuters just a few hours ago.

The reason CentCom hasn't had a meaningful press release in two days is because US forces are losing. Because US forces are losing, they are unable to "incinerate" anything.

The only real question is when this war can be taken back to the heartland, and the honest Americans among us can take up arms against the neo-con Jews and these flag-faving faggots (aka flaggots) that think genocide on behalf of the Zionist Entity is an answer to their problems.
