From AP: Al-Sadr flexes his Islamic muscles.
KUFA, Iraq - A Shiite Muslim cleric threatened on Friday to launch suicide attacks if U.S. troops attack him and his forces in the holy city of Najaf.Muqtada al-Sadr, was speaking during the Friday prayers sermon in Kufa, another Shiite Muslim holy city few miles from Najaf. The area is mostly controlled by his Al-Mahdi Army militia, whose members have clashed with U.S. troops several times since their uprising began on April 4.
"Some of the Mujahideen brothers have told me they want to carry out martyrdom attacks but I am postponing this," al-Sadr said in front of thousands of worshippers. "When we are forced to do so and when our city and holy sites are attacked, we will all be timebombs in the face of the enemy."
He condemned suicide bombings Wednesday in the southern city of Basra that killed 73 people because they targeted Iraqi police and civilians.
U.S. forces are deployed outside Najaf, but their mission to capture or kill al-Sadr has effectively been put on hold while negotiators try to resolve the standoff. U.S. commanders say they have no intention for the time being of entering Najaf, the holiest Shiite city.
Al-Sadr is wanted in the April 2003 killing of a rival cleric.

I copied and posted what you typed before I responded to it. If Sadr were valiant, he wouldn't be hiding in a house of worship. If Sadr
were valiant, he would be condemning any firing of weapons from a house of worship. If Sadr were valiant, he wouldn't exercise the hiding behind women and children, like your heroes are doing.
Like I've said before Reza, sometimes I wish we could have these discussions in person, and this is one of those times. I'd love nothing better than to twist you up in a knot and make you scream from the agony and cry out for your momma. Have no doubts, I can do it.

I too am puzzled with our apparent willingness to give up the initiative on the field of battle. The Romans failed to learn that lesson and lost their empire as a result. While I do not think that we have any plans to build an empire with the likes of Iraq, the Roman lesson is still applicable.
Falujah is actually a better examplet than Najaf. Unfortunately many more Marines will die as a result of the idiotic stalling tactics of the "civic leaders" of that town and our non field leadrship's willingness to go along with the farce.
I was one of the supporters of the war because I believed that the Iraqi people should live free and join the modern world. Boy was I naive. The Arab is not about freedom and equality, the Arab is about dominance and raw power. Our mistake was to view him as an equal to the rest of civilized humanity. These stalling tactics are only intended to give him time to get better field position and to cast himself on the world stage as a victim of U.S. "imperialism."
To this undeniable skill, add our penchant for "multi-culti" political correctness and you end up with a lot more dead Americans. They have not lifted a page from Vo Nguyen Giap, they have taken the whole book and are using it against just as skillfuly as the NVA. I thought our current crop of military officers knew this stuff.
