BAQUBA, Iraq - At least five people were killed and 37 injured Friday in an explosion outside a Shiite Muslim mosque in the town of Baquba, northeast of Baghdad, after the end of main weekly prayers, medics said."Five people were killed and 37 people injured in an explosion near the Haj Sadek Banin mosque," said Ziad Tarek, a doctor at the general hospital in Baquba, 60 kilometres (40 miles) from Baghdad.
"The explosion took place as worshippers were leaving the mosque," he said, adding that several of those affected were passers-by.
Tarek said some of the injured claimed the blast was caused by a powerful bomb, timed to go off exactly after the conclusion of the prayer session, which has a high attendance on Friday, the holiest day of the week for Muslims.
Another doctor, Sajed Abdallah, said about 20 of the injured required surgery. "Some of them need legs or other limbs amputated," he said.
A correspondent at the scene saw ambulances, their sirens wailing, driving towards the site of the explosion in the town centre, an area of restaurants and shops.
The windows of several stores were smashed and cars near the mosque were damaged.
Baquba, in Diyala province, is populated by a mixture of Sunni and Shiite Muslims, the two main religious groups in Iraq.
I break the silence because silence often means acceptance and approval. I condemn the violence of Muslim on Muslim as I would all other violence. Notice I didn't use "regret" as many Muslims do.
As King Abdullah of Jordan recently stated, radical Islam is attempting to take over the Muslim world, which we know would then be the core of the Caliphate. Make no mistake. I will advocate violence to PREVENT this coming about.

i know this is kind of not related but it looks like its hitting the fan in iraq today sadr has told his followers to stop protesting and to start fighting the coalition troops. i really would not like to be bremer because if you arrest or kill sadr it just inflames his supporters which i suspect are in the 40-50,000 range. things really are not looking good

for someone who was against the iraq conflict i actually have been somewhat impressed with the

Sadr is just another petty tyrant. The Iraqis will not fight for him any more than they did for Saddam. If he goes down, there are plenty of other clerics ready to take his leadership position.

The lastest attack against American troops in Iraq...and the subsequent organized attacks will prove over and over again, that there is no such things as "moderate" or "defeated" Moslems.
There is... and will be no such thing as "democratization" of Moslems. Why? Because there is not one sentence in the Koran/Qu'ran that can be construed or misconstrued as supporting "democracy" or "individual rights" in the Koran/Qu'ran.

The current commentators, arm chair commandos...keep stating that it is necessary to:
1) hit them hard now
2) start a second war hard in Falluja now
3) go after the "thugs" (meaning) as individuals
4) it is an uprising caused, and funded by Iranians in Falluja, where there are now 10,000 insane Moslems who are now out of control
5) there are 500,000 Moslems in Falluja who support this group over all in the triangle
6) the smallIraqi police force "ran away"
7) the US troops are over whelmed and have taken huge casualities, and are going to take more casualties
8) it is a "myth" that the Iraqis...are on the American's side
9) the US had weak intelligence, both regarding the force and organization of Saddam's loyalists, the Imams' clerics, the hatred of the Americans...and the ability of the Iraqi's to organize themselves against the American, and where they were able to
a) hide all the weapons, and
b) organize themselves and command and control their efforts against the American troops
10) There is a major gap in Amerian intelligence regarding the belief that Iran and Iraq were "enemies" and were not cooperating with each other...as this was an Iranian-inspired attack on the Americans.
11) How the US troops, directing the defense, can change to an offense....from the Pentagon...is going to be tricky
12) if this is not affected quickly, and the US troops do not quickly turn this around soon, with very few troop deaths, President Bush may lose the election.
13) It is "my opinion" that the entire area should be flattened....however, the fallout from collateral damaged, all over Iraq would be catastrophic...this is a no win..no win situation.
14) Best situation is to starve them....shut down all roads in and out, turn off all electricity, no water, or communications, and no Korans or religious studies. Bomb all mosques, level them. section the area of Falluja and take all men into custody over the age of 12...finger print them, ID them...etc. Educate the women, teach them English....free them, supply them with birth control, and American fashions and cosmetics...let them watch 8 hours of American TV including Opra every day.
