As a teenager in the West Bank, Soauad became pregnant by a local boy. He 'shamed' Palestinian family condemned her to death and she was set on fire by her brother-in-law. Every year, thousands of women in the Middle East die in 'honour killings'. Souad survived. This is her harrowing storyHe came towards me and said, with a smile: "Hi. How goes it?" He was chewing a blade of grass. "I'm going to take care of you."
I hadn't been expecting that. I smiled a little, to thank him, not daring to speak.
Suddenly I felt a cold liquid running over my head; I was on fire. I slapped at my hair. I screamed. My dress billowed out behind me. Was it on fire, too? I smelt the petrol and ran, the hem of my dress getting in the way. Did he run after me? Was he waiting for me to fall so he could watch me go up in flames?
I'm going to die, I thought. That's good. Maybe I'm already dead. It's over, finally.
My name is Souad. My story began almost 25 years ago in my native village in the West Bank, a tiny place, in a region then occupied by the Israelis. If I named my village, I could be in danger, even though I am now thousands of miles away. In my village I am officially dead; if I were to go back today they would try to kill me a second time for the honour of my family. It's the law of the land. It's because I am a woman.
A woman must walk fast, head down, as if counting the number of steps she's taking. She may never stray from her path or look up, for if a man catches her eye, the whole village labels her a charmuta, prostitute. A girl must be married before she can raise her eyes and look straight ahead, or go into a shop, or pluck her eyebrows and wear jewellery. My mother was married at 14. If a girl is still unmarried by that age, the village begins to make fun of her. But a girl must wait her turn in the family to be married. The eldest daughter first, then the others.

A growing number of journalists and editorialists are speaking about the great secret within Islamia: The untapped power of women. I know of few efforts to exploit this enormous asset. No woman should ever have to go through what Islamic women go through, as illustrated by this article. Sadly, such cultural attitudes are not confined to Islam; too much of humanity live primitively due to widespread ignorance. Education brings primitives to the conceptual (human) level. Education targeted to women would pay off in benefits to these women, future women, and the entire globe. Just imagine the power and effect by recalling the old saw: If mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.
I've just sent this article to everyone I know. Why aren't feminists up in arms? I'm willing to bet some people will say this is not a true story, but made up by some politician.
Whenever I have sent such articles out to my feminist friends - the usual reply is "That is not Islam." and "you are on another rant!" They have taken the CAIR Mantra and refuse to budge! They are blind and refuse to see the truth staring them in the face!

I agree, much more outrage needs to be displayed in regard to honor killings, as also needs to come out about the recent honor killing in New York State. Examples need to be made of these cold blooded killers and their wanton disregard for human life. I have been passing around to my friends, a great book which came out last year on the subject: "Honor Lost" by Norma Khouri. Norma (a Christian Jordanian) & her Muslim friend Dalia ran a beauty shop together. Dalia was stabbed to death by her father becauase she merely fell in love with a local Christian boy. Norma's life then quickly became threatened simply because she had known about Dalia's friendship, and in the end, Dalia's Christian boyfriend himself helped Norma escape to Europe, with Norma now living in Australia. In the meantime, Jordan recently voted down a resolution to strengthen laws in regards to honor killings.
The judicial systems of the western countries where immigrants are moving to with their honor killing mindset still intact need to be let known loud and clear that they will rot in jail for life if they let their "sense of honor" get the best of them over the welfare of their intended, innocent targets.
Muslims keep saying that honor killing is not part of islam and I think that is true. Where islam comes into it is the law surrounding the punishment. I still can't get my head around it. How can a family have a meeting and decide that their 18 year old daughter/sibling is to be offed ? It blows me away. Where in the name of sanity does a father get the idea that murdering his daughter is a good idea ? Not only that but the mother goes along with it !!! Is it PC acceptable to just call them ignorant savages ? It's like one half of the world is living in medieval times or something.

In English, "peace" means "the absence of war", but in Arabic, it translates as "the absence of enemies" - a slight, but crucial, difference.
"Islam" is not derived from "salaam", "peace" - as the Moslems ceaselessly, mendaciously insist - but from the word "aslam", denoting "submission".
This family of degenerate psychopaths didn't just TRY to kill ONE daughter. They killed one other daughter as a teen-ager and seven more as infants.
Yet all this family of serial killers worries about is their freakin' "honor."
What kind of "honor" is it that murders 8 innocent people, seven of them newborn infants?
I totally admire this lady for making her story known. What a brave lady. And may God bless the anonymous Swiss woman (probably a CHRISTIAN) who saved her and gave her a new life.

ME women have no idea what life is like with true, honest men. I don't mean sexually, although I hear some things about their mates being inadequate. I mean they have no clue how they are supposed to be treated, and cherished.
They grow up in slaughterhouses. Drop your inept male mates ladies and change your lives.....wander off from Palestine and never return. What a shame this is......

I read this article two days ago and was absolutely sickened, how anyone could treat women like that.
The Muslim religion is about concord, how dare they gainsay themselves? These people should be punished for their wrong doings, killing a human being for giving life is a calamity, to be ashamed of a child for this is a calamity.
These people are all the same, they think there going to please their god Allah, but there just earning themselves a one way non refundable ticket to hell. Something should be done about this; I am horrified, thinking about these poor unprotected women.
