Shabana Rehman picked up Mullah Krekar. By the legs. She was trying to make a satiric point. He called it a "gruesome humiliation." Krekar, the jihadist leader who now resides in Norway, should know: he has done a few grueome things himself.
But what does this strange incident have to do with dhimmitude and jihad? Why, everything. For besides gruesomely humiliating this terrorist, Rehman has violated a fundamental tenet of the jihadists, most memorably expressed by Ayatollah Khomeini: "Allah did not create man so that he could have fun. The aim of creation was for mankind to be put to the test through hardship and prayer. An Islamic regime must be serious in every field. There are no jokes in Islam. There is no humor in Islam. There is no fun in Islam. There can be no fun and joy in whatever is serious."

Norwegian-Pakistani humorist Shabana Rehman pulled a stunt during a public debate with Mullah Krekar, the controversial former leader of the militant group Ansar al-Islam that left the religious man fuming and threatening a lawsuit. Rehman, a popular stand-up comic who specializes in material based on culture collision, picked the mullah up off the ground, an act he called a gruesome humiliation.The bizarre incident took place during a debate about Krekar's new book, a largely autobiographical work that tries to put his life and beliefs into perspective and give an alternative look at a man constantly embroiled in accusations of terrorism and Islamic fundamentalism.
Rehman, who was born in Karachi but raised in Norway since infancy, is controversial in her own right, constantly creating a stir with comedy material touching on immigration, integration, Muslim conflicts and traditions, feminism and sexual repression. ...
On Tuesday night as the debate was winding to a close, Rehman came on stage and said she wanted to carry out a "satiric test" to find out if Mullah Krekar was as strongly fundamentalist as some of his critics believe. When he approached her, she grabbed him and lifted him up in the air.
Krekar, who said that Rehman picked him up by reaching under his buttocks, became furious, grabbed the microphone and began speaking in Norwegian for the first time that evening.
"I do not have the right to carry her like that, she has no right to carry or touch me. She displays contempt for me. I cannot accept this," Krekar said, and promised to lodge a complaint via his lawyer. He demanded that all photographs of the incident be destroyed.
Rehman, who insists she lifted him by gripping him around the legs ("the only way for a woman 163 centimeters (5'4") to pick up a man that high"), told newspaper VG she also wanted to show that if she could lift him, he could hardly be a danger to national security.
The woman gathered in the audience laughed at the stunt but panel member Lar Gule, secretary general of Norway's Humanist Ethic League protested.
"The audience does not understand what an insult Krekar has been exposed to. This is very, very serious for Krekar, and Rehman especially should understand this," Gule said.
Rehman said she wanted to see if Krekar was as tolerant and relaxed as he claims to be, and admitted that she found his reaction confusing.

It is part of this story that a muslim politician in Norway, prior to this incident, had appointed Shabana Rehman to be the muslim's public enemy no 1 in the country. According to previous press reports there has even been threats to her life. She is very much a public figure in Norway. Until last Tusday her most famous stunt probably was posing naked with the body painted with a Norwegian flag (which by the way includes a cross).
However, she is far more than just a comedienne. She is also a very intelligent and courageous woman. Amongst other things she has also written reviews for a Norwegian newspaper of Ibn Warraq's book "Why I am not a muslim" and Oriana Fallaci's "The Rage and the Pride", giving both books very favourable comments.
As a comedienne she tends to kick in all directions, both against muslims and islam, but also against Norwegian culture and Christianity. But what the heck ? Coming from her I can take pretty much anything.

In movie theatres of yore (even unto the 1950s), when the Gaumont or Movietown News would come on, a staple item would be the film from Pakistan, where the then-current Aga Khan would be lifted high on a scale by his devoted followers, who would then place heaps of diamonds on the other side of the scale, until it was in balance, and those diamonds were the Aga Khan's tribute for the year. (The present Aga Khan, a patron of Islamic architecture and an ABD graduate student at Harvard's Department of Comparative, seems not to be participating in the practice -- but then again, the Ahmadiyyas are lying low in Pakistan these days).
The comedienne in question was merely treating the dour Mullah Krekar in the manner once accorded to the worth-his-weight-in-diamonds Aga Khan. But perhaps he does not like the idea of being treated like an "infidel" Ahmadi (Qadiani). Okay, then the humorless Mullah Krekar should think of her act, then, as the Oslo-according equivalent of the old Coney Island "Guess-Your-Weight" concession. All that was missing from the experience was a Nathan's Famous Hotdog, or a Hebrew National frank, to provide Mullah Krekar with the complete Coney Island experience, an experience which, alas, American authorities will be compelled to deny him.
Correction, Hugh. The Aga Khan is chief of the Ismailis, not the Ahmadayyahs.
Being Canadian, I have worked for people from every corner of the globe, representing every possible religious affiliation: Jamaicans, Hindus, Iraqis, Italians, Muslim Lebanese, Grenadians, Christians, etc., etc.
And, Khomeini was correct- there is NO humour (that I can discern, anyway) in Islam. It is the most dour, distempered cult imaginable. Arab islamic culture is stultified, social advances nil, the honour/shame paradigm pre-occupies, money favouring is widespread, misogyny is rampant. Nope, nothing to smile about- it's as though the entire culture is suffering from a paranoid depressive illness. And, this lack of humour cannot be a regional malady- after all, Israelis demonstrate some of the blackest, most clever humour imaginable.
Good for Ms. Rehman. Must be that well-known crazy Norwegian streak in her that accounts for her sense of humour ;)
I stand corrected -- Ismailis, not Ahmadiyyas. Which would make sense; a moment's thought should have told me Ahmadiyyas could not possibly have held such a public ceremony in Pakistan, where they are regarded as Infidels. And I ought to have added that it is not only diamonds (for a diamond jubilee) but also gold and other precious metals, that have been given to the Aga Khan, at different times, in amounts corresponding to his weight.

Humor is a great tool in the battle against islamic fascism. Maybe we need to institute a strategy of public ridicule of 'islamic correctness' (IC), a la Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
What a sorry lot, buried in their own misery and wanting to drown the whole world in it too.
Time for a concerted humor attack on islamic fascism. There's nothing like ridicule to take the air out of pompous self-important mullah-jihadists.

I don't think her actions were really all that funny. To say that because someone can be picked up by a woman can't be a threat to national security seems to ridicule the people concerned with security. Napolean and Hitler were both small in stature, but caused a great deal of damage, as did the Palestinian cleric confined to a wheel chair.
Nothing infuriates a true believer than laughing at them. Add the fact that Islamic and Arabic cultures are 'shame' cultures, few things can be as devastating to a Jihadist like being the butt of a joke, except perhaps being the butt of a joke played out in public. Note how Krekar demanded that all photos be destroyed.

She is a truly remarkable woman. When she first came to Norway there were almost no Pakistanis or other muslims here. Because she was so much "the odd one out" at school and otherwise she was the victim of racist mobbing from her classmates. It would have been no surprise if she, as a result of that, had developed hatred and animosity towards Norwegians and western culture in general. Instead she has done more or less the exact opposite. Her critisism of islam is ruthless and accurate, very much along the same lines as Ibn Warraq and Oriana Fallaci, but she can also be incredibly funny. The fact that she sometimes makes fun of aspects of Norwegian and other western culture only makes her critisism of islam and muslims more credible.

Hugh, no problem. I'm old enough to (slightly) remember the tail era of the reign of Prince Aly Khan in the nightclubs and bedrooms of the US and Europe, and I've read books and news reports of his mesalliance with poor Rita Hayworth, which resulted in much coverage of Ismailis in the US press. I believe their daughter, Princess Yasmin Khan, still lives in New York.
The Ismailis seem to be rather jolly, life-enjoying people at heart today, although centuries ago they gave birth to the brutal, feared Assassin cult.
I think Shabana should get the double whammy award. Not only did she prove her strength and point by picking him up, it was a double humiliation in that she was also a WOMAN touching HIM without first asking permission, something that radical islamist male would find particularly scarey and unclean. Many of those would rather choke on their falafel than get a heimlich from chic!
Maybe this could become Norway's new international export article, after oil: Big, angry women touring the world, scaring bearded mullahs shitless. I would give my right arm to see her do that to Sadr in Iraq, for instance.

I think I have figured out why the culture of northwestern Europe became the dominant culture of the world while Islam sank into the pits.
This lady is the kind of woman that a Viking chieftain would have wanted to mother his sons and would have pursued her vigorously; the Muslims were afraid of her and ran away.
