France Suspends Muslim Cleric Deportation

Wife-beating advocate Bouziane doesn't have to leave France — yet, anyway. From AP, with thanks to Susan:

LYON, France (AP) - A French court on Friday temporarily suspended a deportation order that has already led to the expulsion of a Muslim cleric who advocated wife-beating and stoning women.

The suspension was to remain in effect until a hearing on case, expected in a few weeks. The cleric, Abdelkader Bouziane, was deported to Algeria on Wednesday, and it was unclear what effect the ruling of the administrative court in Lyon might have.

Bouziane, 52, preaches at a mosque in the Lyon suburb of Venissieux. He was quoted in the April edition of Lyon Mag as saying a man could beat his wife ``under certain conditions, notably if the woman cheats on her husband.''

He was quoted as saying the Quran, the Muslim holy book, authorizes such punishment - an interpretation rejected by many Muslims.

He also said he was in favor of stoning women for offenses.

The comments drew condemnation from French officials and Muslim leaders and prompted Interior Minister Dominique de Villepin to order Bouziane's immediate expulsion.

The imam was first put on an expulsion list Feb. 26 for disturbing public order, but official said they decided to speed up his case after the remarks were published.

Villepin on Friday said he would give the Lyon court additional information to justify Bouziane's expulsion.

Woah. Sure did Not take long for the first signs of weakness to kick in.

In his elocution he must have promised not to do it again! I always believed that the French justice system took a hard line toward criminals and that under their system the accused had to prove his innocence. I will proceed under this assumption.

If indeed, this man did speak and write these words that are in violation of French law, how did he "defend" not only the words but the concepts behind them. Are the native French infected with the Islamic meme, or have Muslims invaded the bench? Soon we will see the French codes of justice amended to include Sharia, written in elegant French, of course, and in due time, Arabic.

it is time for america to do the same with the muslim clerics in the country; if they support violence and jihad they should be deported out of this country; it is time to stand up to the muslim and islam religion.

In his latest brush with controversy (on a visit to Lebanon, volubly praising Jihad and "martyrdom" and objecting to Hamas and Hezbollah being listed on the Australian Government's list of terrorist organizations), the reptilian, self-styled "Imam of Australia", Sheikh Taj el-din Hilaly, managed to get himself off the hook again.

He did this by trotting out his trusty old chestnut, that he'd been "misquoted, mistranslated and cited out of context" (despite the total unambiguity of the Dept of Foreign Affairs transcript of his speech).

To cap off his lame pleas, he succeeded in selling the notion that he'd been simply "reciting poetry", not mouthing prose - so he should never have been taken so literally! The local "commentariat" was only too delighted to swallow this line.

A fortnight later, at an anti-Israel/anti-American march in Sydney, the "Imam", uttered further, offensive, pro-terrorist sentiments, but he was careful this time to repeatedly point out that he was just reiterating what a 9 year-old girl, who'd been brought up onto his podium, was whispering into his ear - these weren't his words, he was merely relaying hers!

At least, in a TV interview recently, he did admit to saying different things in Arabic to his Moslem followers and in English to everybody else - though he didn't elucidate for a second on what the divergences might be. He "explained" this by the "poetry" of the Arabic tongue, lacking in English....

What infuriates the French tax-paying public of Infidels is not the imam of Venissieux's preaching about how to (mis)treat women, but rather the fact that the imam dont on parle himself has two wives, and by those wives, a total of 16 children, every single one of them on the French dole. Thus, the French, who like many Europeans have been carefully limiting the size of their families because of the expense of child-rearing (including the expense of private schools, now that public schools have become both very dangerous, in so many areas, and with their academic standards fatally vitiated, by the presence of so many aggressive and hostile Muslim students), are enraged to have this visible example of Muslim families living at French expense, families where sixteen children are not unusual.

Oriana Fallaci, in her previous book, La Rabbia e l'Orgoglio, had a phrase that no doubt was found by some to be unpleasant; she wrote of Muslims in Europe "breeding like rats." French people were, I suspect, put in mind of such phrases by the imam of Venissieux.

But don't be fooled; Dominique de Villepin has not joined the side of the angels; he is still on the side of the djinns.
