Syrian police survey the damage to the former UN building
Jihad attacks in Damascus. From The Telegraph, with thanks to Jeffrey Imm:
Suspected al-Qa'eda gunmen launched co-ordinated attacks on a diplomatic district of Damascus last night, sparking a fierce battle with security forces on the streets of the Syrian capital.Explosions and gunfire were heard close to the British ambassador's residence in the Mazzeh district that houses several embassies, while a building formerly housing United Nations offices was set alight.
Unconfirmed reports from witnesses said that masked men fired two rocket-propelled grenades at the former mission, setting it on fire. They are then said to have sprayed gunfire in all directions with assault rifles.The random shooting hit a passing minibus which had no passengers and whose driver managed to escape, and five parked cars, which caught fire, witnesses said.
Late into the evening, smoke was seen billowing from Mazzeh and ambulances and police cars packed the area, which had been sealed by security forces. Witnesses said the violence started about 7.20pm and lasted more than an hour.
One local resident said that after the terrorists opened fire, a police car rushed to the scene and itself came under attack. The police returned fire and reinforcements, including plainclothes security forces, soon arrived. In the ensuing shoot-out, one of the two cars used by the assailants blew up, the witnesses said.
Syrian security forces are then said to have killed three gunmen and taken a fourth into custody. A member of the security forces was said to have been seriously wounded.
Police explosives specialists were brought in to examine the bodies of the dead gunmen to make sure they were not booby-trapped.
Amid conflicting reports of the number of explosions - perhaps as many as 15 - the state news agency, Sana, said that "a terrorist and sabotage group" had opened fire indiscriminately in Mazzeh. "The security services confronted them and are in full control of the situation," Sana added.
Syria's ambassador to the United States, Imad Mustafa, appeared to blame al-Qa'eda for the attack last night.
"We have been doing our best against al-Qa'eda," he said. "We share the same enemy [as America]. We aid the US in its fight against al-Qa'eda and terrorism."
Sana gave no details of the attackers, or of their intended targets. But the incident will seriously rattle the Syrian regime which has maintained an iron grip on security in the capital since putting down an attempted coup in the 1980s.
Umm well, I wasnt sure where to put this...
Just been reading this article, and most of this posts etc on this site...
"radical Islam is waging against the rest of us"
This seems kind of funny. Was watching TV program couple of days about about... * drum roll *
Christian Terrorism !!
May be very shocking to some people, to have the words Christian and Terrorism together for a change.
In America alone, it is estimated that there are 50,000+ Christian radicals, who are as much a threat as "Muslim fundementalists"
Look no further than Eric Robert Rudolph, the alleged bomber of the 1996 Atlanta Summer, who is a self proclaimed, Christian Terrorist.
Christian terrorism is increasing in such an alarming rate that the message is now "Fear Christian terrorists too"!
Search google.com for literally 100,000's of Christian Terrorism information, and examples.
The so called 'war on terror' and not on war on Islam looks dodgy upon watching the prog. and reading many articles, Bushy and co must condemn + distancing themselves from Christian Terrorism ideology if any1 going to believe him.
:D But I bet no one will create www.christianwatch.org, they will simply sweep this matter under the rug, until a big attack is happens, and the problem and danger is surfaced.

Highly recommend searching google, for some interesting facts, stats, 'Jihad', 'Terrorism' may take a whole new shape when they attack.
My dear interested,
"In America alone, it is estimated that there are 50,000+ Christian radicals, who are as much a threat as "Muslim fundementalists"
As much a threat as "Muslim fundamentalists"? Are these so-called Christian terrorists, then, operating in Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Bangladesh, India, Kashmir, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Syria, Israel, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Sudan, Algeria, Nigeria, as well as Europe, South America, and the USA? Do tell.
Also: the name of this site is not "Muslim Watch." It is "Jihad Watch." That is a significant difference.
Cordially
Robert Spencer
I repudiate "Christian terrorism" as well as other kinds. "Interested" refers to Eric Rudolph, the abortion-clinic bomber. This thread deals with jihad terrorism, not to the abortion and right to life debate. However, all violence is wrong and we should not turn this thread into a forum on abortion.
Is the Right to Life issue "Christian Terrorism?" I am sure that others besides Chritians have strong opinions on abortion. But when I see Christians bombing neighborhoods, airliners, malls, department stores, cafes, and the like, in the name of Chrisitianity or in order to prevent abortion, then I will go on the lookout for Christian terrorists.
The difference between Jihad terror and "Christian terror" is that there is no basis in the Bible or other Christian works that calls for or even permits violence, whereas the Koran and Hadiths are very specific in the call for violent jihad.
As for Syria's present troubles. Apparently the Syrian government and culture are Muslim enough for fundamental tastes. There is obviously a move to replace them with an ayatollah-type government and to incorporate them into the Caliphate.
I understand from command-post.org and elsewhere that this Syrian story is an Assad-staged one.
Let's see...If I were Syrian Muslim and I had the mentality of a 6 year old and I saw the entire ME being attacked by terrorists except for me (oh-oh!)...I might "stage" an attack too...
As for the dead? My understanding is most of the 19 9/11 bombers did not know until they were in the air they would never get off those planes...Perhaps the players in this little drama thought they would be going home too? I am sure their murderers have declared them "heaven" bound heros and paid off their familes...
After all isn't any betrayal or any act of despicible violence OK when your "god" has ordered you to take the whole earth for him, no matter what or how?
This morning, 04/28/04, Col David Hunt spoke to the Syrian event on Fox and Friends. Col. Hunt is a seasoned expert regarding terrorism. He said that he strongly suspects that Syria staged this. It was common practice in Bosnia, one of the places where Col Hunt got his experience. By staging such operations, terror supporting states seek to throw people off the scent, and, with so many liberals around, they get to play the "victim" card (this latter, I am adding; Col. Hunt did not say this specifically). Having followed the commentaries of Col Hunt for more than a year, I give him thumbs up for credibility.
Hmm. Interested seems to think that abortion doctors are the equivalent of Israeli youths. It is odd then that those who make their business the slaughter of innocents should expect protection and those who have done nothing morally wrong do not have the right to it.
I would laugh if it weren't so tragic.
Will this possibly wake the Syrians up to the point of realizing that they're targets of these nuts like the rest of us?
I just read "Interested" 's comments. Eric Rudolph, as far as I know was a lone wolf...I mean unless I missed something, I thought he acted alone or with a very small group.
I talk with many people, and haven't run across any Christian "Jihadis" that wish domination for Christianity and are willing to kill everyone that isn't Christian. Allegedly 50,000....avg. of 1000 per state....Nope, haven't heard of any Christians making threats against any society...
There's what, 240 million Christians in the U.S.? Yet most of the problems and threats are generated from Muslims at 6-8 million. Do the math Mr. Interested......
Yeah, you ppl have raised some interesting points.
As for Eric Rudolph, he was well known to be in the radical "Christian Identity movement"... the "Lost Tribes of Israel" my figure which stated 50,000+ of these fundementals in USA alone is near enough the mark...
As for them not being dangerous, apart from the 1996 bomb incident,
Wrong!
They have very strong ties with KKK (that speaks for itself), not to mention Zionist Occupation Government (ZOG).
Also, have you heard of other Christian terrorists, Aryan Nations or Pete Peters’ Church of LaPorte.
Aryan Nations under then banner "''Church of Jesus Christ Christian'' have killed, slaughtered Jews, Muslims etc. for many years.
Reason why I associate the word "jihad" with "muslim" are:
Webster's Third New International Dictionary,
"A holy war waged on behalf of Islam as a religious duty"
The Random House Dictionary of the English Language
"A holy war undertaken as a sacred duty to Muslims"
Britannica World Language Dictionary, p. 686.
A religious war of Moslems against the enemies of their faith
And in most dictionaries it makes a link between muslim!
So that does imply this site has a meaning that transition to "Muslim watch".
My example above of Christian far-right movement are not listed on this site, and yet they are as prominent as "muslim" terrorism.
Please so research into this, I do think, as do many others, that this is the next big threat!
Okay.... let me take this a step further!
IRA = 1000s of christian terrorists... they speak for themselves again!
Sri Lankan Tamil Terrorists’........etc etc etc LM’ ‘Hindu terrorists’ VHP, Bajrang Dal & RSS
Heard of them? They commiting their own "jihad" (Robert Spencer defines)
Read the ISF India Organization release
"More then 50,000 muslims are killed, thousands of girls, womens are raped, even pragnent womens were not spared their womb's were cut down with trishuls & swords & their unborn child were thrown in flames."
I think that also speaks for itself :(
Along this line, but sort of off track--
Has anybody seen anything about the terrorist attack that was foiled in Jordan? Seems some al-Qaeda operatives planned to set off suicide truck bombs in downtown Amman that were loaded with 20 or 30 tons of explosives and chemicals.
The Jordanians said that if it had succeeded the chemicals would have formed a cloud that would have killed 80,000 people.
The quick answer to those who reference 'Christian Terrorism' is this:
Throw back at them the same logic they put forth in their ongoing defense of Islamists. For example: "Those aren't 'real' Christians." OR.. "They've hijacked Christianity!"
Any others come to mind?
What far right Chrisitan movement??? There are a handful of people that behave badly, but Christian terrorists are not prominent and they would be blackballed and repudiated by all. Any minister (cleric) that advocates terrorism would be fired and run out of town and even prosecuted by the law. Terrorists haven't hijacked Chrisianity because Christians don't allow them to have any standing in the community and would definitely turn them in! There are no Christian terrorists that fight in the name of their religion.
The allegation that the IRA is fighting for Christianity is not true. They are fighting for political suffrage under the British, not to promote their Christian faith. Thus, in the modern world, not Christians have enemies according to their faith. That WAS a 16th century problem, not a 21st century problem.
Try as you may to equate jihad with terrorists that are Christians, you simply can't because terrorism is not part of Christian teaching, whereas jihad terrorism is exactly that for Muslims.
There are no Christian terrorists that fight in the name of their religion

Perhaps not yet, my friend....but you know, if these overbearing Islamists don't quit with the pushing of the envelope, they're in for the worst time of their lives.....Not terrorism, I mean the dispencing of Justice...True Justice.
Amusing how Muslims try to project the atrocities of Islam onto other religions in an attempt to excuse what Muslims do in the name of Islam. "Interested" mentioned the rape of Muslim women, those rapes were committed by Muslim men. Not unlike the Muslim soldiers who raped US military women who were captives during the first gulf war.
In contrast to Islam, under Jewish law in the old testament soldiers were forbidden to engage in sexual relations during a time of war. This was to prevent rapes of women. King David was tripped up by this law when he had an affair with Bath-sheba who was married to Uriah. A pregnancy occured and David tried to cover it up by sending for Uriah in the hope that he would sleep with his wife. Uriah refused as this would have violated the law, so David had him sent to the front lines where he would certainly be killed. Uriah was killed and David then married Bath-sheba to cover up the adultery. Unfortunately for King David Jehovah see's everything and the reprehensible scheme was exposed by none other then the God of the Bible who punished both David and Bath-sheba.
This is yet another example of the difference between the God of the Bible and the god of Islam.
Yes I have read the parts of the gospal, afterall I am a very liberal person, currently dating a christian girl at university :D So dont say I am trying to distort, cast a bad image over christianity, or am in any slightest racist.
“[God says:] Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy everything that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys” (1 Sam 15:3);
“If only you would slay the wicked, O God! Away from me, you bloodthirsty men! They speak of you with evil intent; your adversaries misuse your name. Do I not hate those who hate you, O LORD, and abhor those who rise up against you? I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies” (Ps 139:19-22)
“Appoint an evil man to oppose [my enemy]; let an accuser stand at his right hand. When he is tried, let him be found guilty, and may his prayers condemn him. May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership. May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow. May his children be wandering beggars; may they be driven from their ruined homes. May a creditor seize all he has; may strangers plunder the fruits of his labor. May no one extend kindness to him or take pity on his fatherless children. May his descendants be cut off, their names blotted out from the next generation. May the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the LORD; may the sin of his mother never be blotted out. May their sins always remain before the LORD, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth” (Ps 109:6-15);
‘If you will deliver these people into our hands, we will totally destroy their cities.’ The LORD listened to Israel’s plea and gave the Canaanites over to them. They completely destroyed them and their towns; so the place was named Hormah” (Num 21:2-3);
“When the LORD your God brings you into the land you are entering to possess and drives out before you many nations--the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites, seven nations larger and stronger than you-- and when the LORD your God has delivered them over to you and you have defeated them, then you must destroy them totally. Make no treaty with them, and show them no mercy” (Dt 7:1-2); “You must destroy all the peoples the LORD your God gives over to you. Do not look on them with pity” (Dt 7:16);
“Completely destroy them--the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites--as the LORD your God has commanded you” (Dt 20:17);
“Pursue your enemies, attack them from the rear and don’t let them reach their cities, for the LORD your God has given them into your hand” (Josh 10:19);
This is just the tip of the iceberg.
I HIGHLY recommend every1 to search between the violence caused by Christians. And them listed in the Bible/Gospels etc etc
Read the Koran, and you will see 1000s of similarities, not only in this, but many words and messages are exact.
This was during ancient times under the Mosaic law and the Isrealites were God's chosen people returning to a land that was promised to them by Jehovah. The people living in that land particularly the Canaanites were pagen worshippers. Jehovah's command to kill the Canaanites men, women and children may seem harsh but by disobeying that command and allowing some of the Canninites to live the Isrealites created more problems themselves. The sexual misconduct and violence that later occurred was a direct result of allowing some Canaanites to live after Jehovah had commanded their destruction. As the Canaanites brought their violence and sexual practices with them when they were allowed to live among the Isrealites against Jehovah's command.
Of course the coming of Jesus Christ replaced the Mosaic law covenant with only two laws. First that Christians should love Jehovah with their whole, heart, mind, soul and strength and second
that they must love their neighbor as themself.
Neither of those commands allow for things like suicide bombings and Jihad attacks on civilians that are allowed, encouraged and praised by Islam. Yet another difference between Christianity and Islam.
"Neither of those commands allow for things like suicide bombings and Jihad attacks on civilians that are allowed, encouraged and praised by Islam. Yet another difference between Christianity and Islam."
As I said, that was the tip of the iceberg, I am not going to sprawl through the Bible giving out thousands of commands to kill!
Examples of Islam against civilian attacks and terrorist attacks are in the millions,
Remember each attack on anyone is met with stiff resisitance by majority of Muslims as Bush said.
Islam is spreading in such a rapid rate, I have seen Christians, Jews, convert, celebs converting to Islam, and they are not converting because of violence, but as it is peacefull.
Some stubbon people on this website (minority worldwide) remain Islamophobic, but the truth is, Islam is not spread by the sword, and there is nobody to accept this now.
Everyone that says otherwise has misunderstood this religion, although I paste in these links to show facts, figures, and the truth, I am sure some Islamophobes will simplier ignore, rubbish them.

Re: your quotes about God commanding the destruction of the Amalekites, etc. etc. etc.
That same Bible also says:
"Thou shalt not steal."
"Thou shalt not kill."
"Thou shalt not commit adultery."
"Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife."
"Love thy neighbor as thyself."
"Thou shalt treat the stranger as thyself."
And guess what, Mr. Interested -- that's just the tip of the iceberg!!!
