Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi
From The Star, with thanks to Nicolei, who notes that "the total destruction of the state of Israel" and the imposition of dhimmitude upon Israelis "are Hamas's objectives, as stated clearly in their charter." He adds that when Malaysia's Muslim leaders condemn the killing of Hamas leaders but say nothing about the Hamas suicide bombings that have killed innocent civilians, they show the true nature of the supposedly "moderate" Islam of Malaysia.
ALOR STAR: The assassination of Hamas leader Abdel Aziz Rantissi will worsen the deteriorating situation in the Middle East, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said.He said violence and enmity in the region were escalating and the latest incident would only make the situation worse.
He said he voiced his concerns over the situation in Palestine in letters to leaders of the US, Britain, France, Russia and China as well as United Nations secretary-general Kofi Annan.
"I do not intend to write another letter. The letter which I had sent is enough as I had clearly stated my views on the bad situation in Palestine, which might become worse," Abdullah said after meeting Kedah Barisan leaders here.
He was commenting on the assassination of Rantissi by Israel on Saturday.
Rantissi was killed when an Israeli helicopter fired rockets at his car in Gaza City.
The incident took place less than a month after the killing of Hamas spiritual leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin in a similar attack.
Abdullah said Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar would prepare for discussions on the situation in Iraq and the overall situation in the Middle East at the next OIC meeting.
“I do not intend to write another letter. The letter which I had sent is enough as I had clearly stated my views on the bad situation in Palestine, which might become worse,”
at least he is prescient enough to admit between the lines that this equivocating position is a broken record.
A real reliable souce of information. Like we really listen to this.
Bedawi should concern himself with his own region of the world. While this guy rants about the Middle East's deterioration, Southeast Asia's own situation deteriorates at least equally seriously. Guess which area needs his attention and which one doesn't.
Badawi is considered to a moderate Muslim leader, nothing wrong about that in my humble opinion.
The ones SEA should be worried about is Indonesia.
Coup detat after coup detat, from Sukarno to Suharto to Habibie to Gus Dur to Mega, and now probably Susilo Bambang..
It does not help that their probable next leader is an ex-military guy. Moreover, the act of Indonesians attacking Christians and burning places of worship and worst of all, raping Chinese minority females is absolutely disgusting.
We can only hope a more moderate person can take charge of Indonesia and change it.
Unfortunately, hope is bleak.
