Jordanians protest parliament's rejection of honor killings law

A Muslim Jordanian man stabbed to death his pregnant sister because she married an Egyptian man against the family's wishes.Investigators arriving at the scene Tuesday said the suspect told them "he killed his sibling to cleanse the family's honor using a kitchen knife," the Jordan Times reported.
The unidentified woman was eight months pregnant when she was killed with 25 stab wounds to different parts of her body, the paper said.
Her death is the fifth "honor killing" in Jordan this year tallied by the Times, which counted 17 last year.
An initial investigation into Tuesday's killing revealed the victim married an Egyptian man one year ago and left for Egypt, but she returned home last week to give birth.
After killing his sister in the family home, the brother called the police and waited for them to come and arrest him.
As WorldNetDaily reported, last September two sisters were hacked to death by their Muslim brothers in Jordan in an "honor killing" that came one day after the country's parliament rejected a bill imposing tougher sentences for the crime.
That same month, a Muslim Kurdish refugee living in the UK was sentenced to life in prison for murdering his 16-year-old daughter because she had started a relationship with a Lebanese Christian boy and had become too "westernized."
An anthropologist's study last year said dozens and probably hundreds of brutal "honor killings" of Palestinian women and girls – most of whom are virtually blameless – annually go unreported.
James Emery says the women "are murdered in their homes, in open fields, and occasionally in public, sometimes before crowds of cheering onlookers."
I've got a great idea:
- Allow millions of such people to immigate to our land
- Give them affirmative action
- Allow them equal status
- Change the demographics of our nation
Then we too can share in the multicultural glories of Islam.
I am an adult who returned to my local public University to add to my professional credentials. I was exposed to the undergraduate education that youngsters receive in my mid-western area. The liberal arts curriculum could have been designed by Prince Abdullah and Edward Said.
The liberal arts departments are collections of militants agitator who depise America and the Western tradition. I know that the previous sentence sounds like a cliche, surely, it must be an exaggeration. NO. It is the literal truth. By way of proof, I would invite anyone to go to the University bookstore and make a list of the texts that are assigned as mandatory reading in History, Literature, Philosophy, etc. Almost without exception, the texts are pro-Marxist, pro-Islam (yes) and anti-Western.
Well-meaning midwestern parents who believe in Judaism and/or Christianity and traditional Western values almost mindlessly send their children here. They simply do not understand that their own state government has hired teachers who see their teaching mission as undoing whatever the parents have taught. If students are Chritian believers they are taught that they should be ashamed of the Crusades and that Islam is an island of tolerance. If they are Jews they are taught to be ashamed of the acts taken by Israel to defend itself. The Muslim Student Association hosts a website which promotes the idea of polygamy and describes monogamy as "hypocritical." The height of idiocy is the Women's Studies Department which has decided that the oppression of women under Islam is a "myth" propounded by conservatives. No, I am not making this up. Young female students exposed to the Women's Center will be taught by tenured professors paid by this local mid-western state that free markets inevitably cause the oppression of women and that claims of Islamic misogyny are slanderous Orientalism. The Women's Center recently put up a billboard showing joyous faces of Muslim women demonstrating for the right to wear a hajib. I am not making this up.
What is painful is the acceptance of this nonsense by the greater community. This is all done openly and without any real response from the middle-class middle American parents that send their children here. The alumni association is dominated by affirmative action proponents who fully support the neo-Marxist professors.
Parents and alumni need to shine a light on this mess and clean it up. This needs to be done all over America. Pro-Islamists are getting to our young people first with the message that any criticism of Islam is slander and nothing more than propaganda by the West.
This is very serious. David Horowitz has begun to address it as has Martin Kramer, but, we need more help in this area.

Honor is a rotten corpse in Islamic lands. Their "honor" rooted in dishonor stands.
Reading this fills me with such repugnance that it is becoming more difficult to view the people with equanimity. I don't want to descend that slope.
Honor and dishonor obviously are among the abstract concepts that are out of sync with those of the West. Thus, when we hear a Muslim speak of honor, we should automatically think of something that would be to use dishonorable as the thought process seems to be reversed. How else could an innocent woman be accused of adultery and then murdered on the basis of a false accusation, or a "disobedient daughter" legally married in her own faith to another Muslim be slaughtered to salvage the honor of the male members of her family? Virginity belongs to the family and women are chattel property to be disposed of in cavalier fashion by uncaring male relatives. There is no honor in these practices.

One should kill the animal afterwards, but the meat of the four-footed seductress must not be eaten by her lover, nor by his immediate family; it may, however, be consumed by residents of the next village. Just the book to give your friends, especially if they live on farms.
Which brings one to a question that may be more than hypothetical. If a devout Muslim should happen to have sexual intercourse with, for example, his daughter or his sister, and then feels himself compelled to kill her in order to save the family's "honor," may he eat her remains afterwards, or if that is not permissible, how far away from his primary residence must the village be located where those remains may, without any qualms or embarrassment, be served?

Athena, I hope everyone else sees the school system for the rotten mess it is. It is the same mess from k-12 and at the university level.
The school system that we know today was founded in the early to mid 1800s, and was doomed from the start.
