The Iran Factor

Tehran's man

"Tehran is now spending some $70 million a month on its Iraq operations." And Iran is not at war with the US? From Ilan Berman of the American Foreign Policy Council in the New York Post, with thanks to Ted Robertson:

AN Iranian delegation is now in Baghdad, supposedly to help talk down the firebrand Iraqi cleric Muqtada al-Sadr and his radical "al-Mahdi Army." The strange thing is, Iran is the chief culprit among the outside players behind much of Iraq's current instability.

U.S. officials have long expressed concerns about the Islamic Republic's corrosive activities in Iraq, ranging from drug trafficking to the funding of radical clerics. But recent revelations have exposed an Iranian strategic offensive of unprecedented magnitude - one aimed at preventing the establishment of a secular, pro-Western government in its eastern neighbor.

In a recent interview with the influential Arab-language daily Al-Sharq al-Awsat, a former Iranian official revealed that Tehran has successfully infiltrated hundreds of operatives from its clerical army, the Pasdaran, into Iraq via Kurdish areas not yet firmly under the control of the Iraqi Governing Council.

Since then, the official said, Iranian agents - including members of the Pasdaran's feared paramilitary "Qods Corps" - have established a major presence throughout the country, where they have begun active recruitment, propaganda and insurgency operations.

These activities include the formation of a cadre of radicalized Iraqi youth who will be mobilized during the country's upcoming parliamentary elections, as well as the targeting and elimination of prominent opposition leaders. Most notably, he credits the "Qods Corps" with the assassination of the Ayatollah Mohammad Bakr al-Hakim, head of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq, who was killed in Najaf last August in an attack previously believed to have been carried out by Ba'athist loyalists.

An insurgency of this magnitude does not come cheap: According to that same interview, Tehran is now spending some $70 million a month on its Iraq operations. The money pays off friendly Iraqi clerics, who provide indoctrination and religious legitimacy for a ready cadre of radical young Shi'a, and maintains an extensive network of safe-houses and bases for Iranian agents throughout the country.

The Al-Sharq al-Awsat interview was a blockbuster, but its claims - with the exception of the $70 million figure and the Hakim killing - are confirmed by other sources.

Iraq's political vacuum has also drawn other undesirable characters. Iraqis say both Hezbollah (the Iranian-backed, Lebanon-based Shi'ite militia) and Hamas (the Palestinian terrorist group) have begun to put down roots in post-Saddam Iraq through the establishment of recruitment bases and offices in urban centers like Nasariah, Basra and Safwan.

Syria, meanwhile, has played an important supporting role, expanding the capabilities of both groups through ongoing financial and political assistance. U.S. officials also suspect that, despite its public denials (and mounting pressure from Washington), Damascus is still permitting foreign fighters to enter Iraq via the Syrian-Iraqi border. Even militants from groups as distant as Pakistan's Lashkar e-Taiba have recently been captured within the country.

The reasons for this foreign meddling are not hard to fathom. Iran, already grappling with a restive, disenfranchised domestic population, is eager to avoid having a "bad" example - a secular, pro-Western regime - emerge next door.

As for Syria, the world's only remaining Ba'athist state has good reason to want to preserve the vitality of its sister regime's nationalist opposition, both as a hedge against mounting international attention and to prevent a spillover of the political empowerment of Iraq's minorities on its own Kurdish population.

More broadly, both countries - and the groups working with them - fear that American efforts in the war on terrorism might decisively alter the region's turbulent status quo, and not in their favor.

With the deadline for a U.S. transfer of sovereignty to the emerging Iraqi government drawing closer, and with election-year mudslinging well underway in Washington, quelling Iraq's instability is rapidly emerging as an overriding priority for the Bush administration.

But so too should be the realization that the recipe for long-term stability in Iraq rests in taking up the thorny issue of external influence - and in unequivocally demonstrating to regional rogues that their troublemaking carries real consequences.

Actually, Michael Ledeen has been highlighting this linkage for years.

Of course, he and the NY Post are nothing but right-wing, ignorant troglodytes.

/anti-LLL sarcasm

"Keep your friends close and your enemies closer".
Most of the middle east breeds despotism and we are going to be in the area for a long time.

One solid air strike on Tehran would do wonders. Hit their banks, burn their money with missles. Our infantry is spread too thin right now to start fighting on another front.

We need air strikes.......and soon. Turn Iran's normally howling calls for daily prayer into the whistling of a couple of missles.

I wish US Gov. starts spending 10% of this amount by helping iranian student in their struggle against the head of world terror. And see what a difference that can make...

Friends....this is what I read five years ago, and want your opinion on the possibility of nuclear war, either tactical, or a full blown war as such as occurred in Japan at the end of WW 2 ....

I personally feel as if we are getting closer to what I think is a "worst case" scenario I found in a CIA analysis which said...a nuclear war was the ultimate desperate solution for the Moslem problem. But, first these things have to occur:

a) we have to pull our troops out of Iraq and other Muslim countries...and to make our land mass safe, we also have to deport millions of them out of here....

b) The Muzlo-crazies (a new term, I love it), will then engage in internecine warfare...however, not so much Sunni and Shia against each other, as expected, but against the Moderates. The Moderates will be destroyed for cooperating with the "Great Satan." The radicals are taking names...as they say.

c) A great "purification" will occur all over the world....A "Taliban-like `government' and coalition will take place...a Pan Arab league will take place and this loose Islamic coalition will become organized based on Al-Qaeda's World-Wide network which has earned its bona fides against the Americans. The "Steven King" type horror-story is that the more cut we cut the head off this Moslem snake...the more "snakelets" are born. Nor does capitulation work either. It is a "loose-loose" situation at this point and has been for the past 1400 years.

(In the chat rooms, I am hearing more and more from good little "Christians" who are now on the side of the Moslems for the bad, mean United States occupying the Iraqis "land." Incredible. I ask them if they have ever read the Koran...and to a person..."No" they have not...and "No" they do not plan to either....)

d) As Spain and France fold, and then possibly Germany, and then Turkey....and the ineffectual European Union, rife with Moslems all throughout Europe, try to economically strangle the USA...in return the economic might of the USA will in return smack them around as well...As a result, the World-Wide situation will then result in further deterioration on every level...political, diplomatic, militarily, and economically. Actions against the US Government by "peace activists" especially by left-wing Democrats will increase. There will be riots in the street, the likes of which we have never been seen since the 1960s.

It is possible, that universities, and even local governments will be shut down, and military rule through state and National Guards will have to be established to maintain civil order. The Democrats used the WTO as a small test case....., the Democrats do not really care about the WTO. Have you heard a "peep" about the WTO since Miami? No....we did "gemeinshaft" tactics on them...corralled, contained, sprayed, and whacked them....arrested them all, especially the journalists, and kept all "policemen" in black and their faces covered and unidentified. No...we don't play with hippies anymore. And this particular group went home terrified...and in "shock and awe."

However, they will come back with reinforcements next time...and try to overwhelm us. But, the Intel is that they are gearing up, especially the Moslems and Moslem sympathizers for the GOP convention and it is going to be bloody....

Who are our friends? No one... no one, except Tony Blair... who maybe unseated. Sometimes the Russians, who have a Moslem problem of their own. Remember the horrible murders of the theatre goers by the Chechyns in Moscow....this was kindergarten work for this murderous crew. Sometimes the French in the background and Germans when they want something. The French have a tremendous PR problem and have forever ruined their relationship with the US...that only a long, and public apology could fix. And the US is not in a forgiving mood. The French do not apologize either. The Japanese will sometimes act as a bulwark against the Red Chinese, who are the whores of the world. The Latinos? Brave little countries with lots of machismo...I love the Guats and the Salvadorans, they are my guys, but their numbers are minuscule. The Poles and other former Eastern blocs peoples will do what they can, as they hate dictatorships, but also have Moslems right in their back yard.

e) Finally, if the Moslems become organized enough, especially in Iran.....(if) and when they achieve active nuclear weapons status, which they might have at this point (waiting on Pakistani Intel), and just threaten to use them, and ever use them, or use such a device as a dirty bomb is activated in a suitcase bomb, the US will go after entire nations, and maybe entire regions, or nation-states. Who is first on the list?

Iran...And guess who is next...in league with Iran....Red China.

Now what do you think of this?...I was not allowed to hold this CIA worst case scenario in my hands but just read it, and this is what I can a) remember, and b) put together from current events.

It has been almost five years now, and I am scared witless. For a while there, I thought we were winning. Foolish me. So many countries and political parties capitulating, making deals, believing they can "Make peace with Devil."

The 9-11 Commission has brought forth the truth about how the Democrats cut, strangled, de-funded, under funded, destroyed, and "walled-off" the CIA from the FBI...while the Clintons and the Democrats "felt our pain." Many of you know that I spent 8 years in Central America watching the Democrats support every Marxist dictatorship they could find.

It is also clear, that during the 8 years Clinton was president, he did nothing to stop Moslem terrorism...but allow 10,000 Americans to die at the hands of Moslem terrorists. The Clinton co-presidency, however, did murder and burn to death 22 children at Waco, murder an unarmed woman holding a baby at Ruby Ridge, and go after Bill Gates...for what? We are not sure of....Clinton did have a good time in the Oval office.

Now, we find out that the Democrats were also taking campaign funds from the BCCI bank, headed by directors with direct ties to Moslem terrorists. Today, we find out that Hillary Clinton had Peter Paul a rich Hollywood producer spend $2 million dollars to put on a fund raiser, in which she collected $1 million in campaign funds...however, Paul has already been indicted for stock fraud, and is in the penitentary for 7 years. I just bet Paul has some talking to do and some deals to make. Seems as if no one in Hollywood wouldn't give any "free" money to Hillary anymore..... I still want to know how Hillary invested $1000. in Arkansas and made $100,000 in 30 days in cattle futures. Nope, we haven't forgotten about that one...or all the other "deals" she's made.

We now have John F. Kerry running for president, who was not raised in the United States, but in French schools, where he was indoctrinated in French socialism, and has voted like a corrupt French socialist for 21 years...who now wants to turn the US Military, and all intelligence functions, and then turn US legal actions against Moslem terrorists over to the World Court, who will have arrest powers...to arrest any American general, any American soldier, any American citizen, including the President of the United States without any of our American juris prudence rights...or proof of wrong doing to prosecute Americans in a court of law that is nothing more than an anti-Amerian diatribe.

John F. Kerry would then let foreign governments and entities have power over American citizens and preclude the American court systems. John F. Kerry could then affect this...by executive order.

This is the Democrats' vision of America's future.....Democrats act as if they have a "borderline personality disorder" after being abused by a bad daddy and mommy and are taking out their hostility on this country. They have to be stopped. After more than 40 years of the Democrats mismanagement of on every level...it has now come to Moslems who are coming close to nuclear war parity. All during the Democrats' "reign" Clinton not only did not alert the Amerian people....Clinton in fact "gave" the North Koreans nuclear technology. Clinton gave the Red Chinese nuclear assistance. Why? We will soon find out...because as with everything connected to the Clintons and the Democrats it concerns greed and money, and getting re-elected.

Lybia, Pakistan, Iran, and have known and stated nuclear weapons. Red China has nuclear capable reactors and weapons. The Soviet Union will sell to anyone. At this writing, there are tons of fissionable material, and enriched uranium missing from the former USSR...and scientists willing to put it all together for the Moslems. They are all unemployed now, looking for a home.

Who else has nuclear weapons...in defense of its tiny country? Israel.

I was in Horn of Africa in 1976....flying in a small 26-seater airplane when a nuclear blast was set off in the Indian Ocean...it was one of the most frightening moments of my life. Those that have nuclear weapons...use them. The Moslems are the most unstable of personalities on this planet. And the Democrats are in denial...constantly pandering to the Moslems, refusing to read the Koran, which is pure "hate speech," refusing to read about our destiny as "infidels" according to the Koran. Never forget, all Moslems read the same Koran. There are no "different" interpretations regarding "infidels."

Now...since we might be facing a Moslem nuclear war...since Moslems have already been caught smuggling the makings of a "dirty bomb" across the Canadian border into the USA...would you let the Democrats be in charge of the future of the United States?

It won't be just "Iran"...it will be a collection and a coalition of Muzlo-crazies. We are already seeing this in action.

Let me know what you think.
