Recent intelligence reports indicate that Syria is funding operations against U.S. and coalition targets in Iraq, U.S. officials said.The reports indicate several Iraqis tied to opposition groups have been linked to Syrians in Damascus who supply cash, says Geostrategy-Direct, the global intelligence news service.
The officials did not elaborate on whether the money is provided by Syrian officials or possibly from exiles associated with the regime of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.
Syria has become a key opponent of the new government in Iraq. Scores of former Iraqi officials are believed to be in Syria, despite appeals from the U.S. government to turn them over.
Officials said it is not clear how the funding affects the operations against coalition forces in Iraq.
"Iraq is awash in weapons," one official said.
U.S. Marines in Ramadi last week encountered an unusual assault by armed Iraqis who were well trained and well organized – something that has not been seen since the end of major combat operations a year ago.
The attackers were equipped with AK-47 assault rifles and attacked in groups of 10 to 15.
The attackers disappeared after the assaults, which left 13 Marines dead and 20 others wounded.
That ugly little rodent Bashar al-Assad's got to be made to feel the consequences for "his" government's actions. The US has aparently now got intel proof that a state actor is fighting America through a proxy. American troops are dying due to Syrian perfidy. Ergo, hit the state actor.
Gee, let's think about the repercussions. The Arab street will rise? It would engender more terrorism in the ME? The Arab world will hate America more? Trade links between Syria and the States would be jeopardized? Please......
Enough, already. Let the US military get the job done in Iraq. NOW!!!

It's time to stop pussy footing around in Iraq (and Syria, Iran and the Saudis) and time to use some shock and awe with no holds barred. Perhaps we should learn from the Israelis - targeted killings work nicely. The world may condemn the USA but no matter what we do we will be condemned so let's err on the side of caution for our troops and take care of business with whatever means we have available. We are dealing with evil. Evil hugging, evil appeasing, evil negotiating, evil ignoring don't work. The UN as it was meant to function is corrupt and serves as an anti-USA and anti-Israel union of terrorist-condoning states and countries. We cannot trust most of our so-called "allies". No more foreign aid to countries that oppose us or who sponsor terrorism etc, etc.
We must destroy evil before it destroys us. Yes "innocent" people will be sacrificed but just think of it as a gift, an early entry to paradise.
I reckon Israel's quest for Hamas will be taking them for a little trip into the heartlands of Syria...
And Syria is such a peace loving Islamic state...
