Not a silver tongue
Gene Simmons of KISS has offended Muslims in Australia with some salty comments during a radio interview. From The Age, with thanks to faustaw:
KISS bass player Gene Simmons has caused an uproar among Australia's Muslim community by launching an attack on Islamic culture while in Melbourne. The lizard-tongued rock god who is touring Australia with the world's most enduring glam rock band launched an attack on Muslim extremists during an interview on Melbourne's 3AW radio.
"Extremism believes that it's okay to strap bombs on to your children and send them to paradise and whatever else and to behead people," he said yesterday.
The Israeli-born US musician went on to say Islam was a "vile culture" that treated women worse than dogs.
Muslim women had to walk behind their men and were not allowed to be educated or own houses, he said.
"Your dog, however, can walk side by side, your dog is allowed to have its own dog house... you can send your dog to school to learn tricks, sit, beg, do all that stuff - none of the women have that advantage."
He went on to say the west was under threat.
"This is a vile culture and if you think for a second that it's going to just live in the sands of God's armpit you've got another thing coming," he said.
"They want to come and live right where you live and they think that you're evil."
Simmons said the United Nations approach did not work and the west had to "speak softly and carry a big stick".
The radio station today fielded calls from Muslims upset at the comments, including Australian Muslim of the year Susan Carland, who said Australian Muslims rejected extremism and did not fit Simmons' stereotype.
Ms Carland said she had two degrees, was doing her honours and "certainly do not walk behind my husband".
Chairman of the Islamic Council of Victoria Yasser Soliman said Simmons' comments were "very unfortunate".
"He's very famous obviously and popular and, as a result, influential," he said.
"Mixing the entertainment world with the political and religious world is a minefield."
He said Simmons had begun by talking about extremists but had gone on to vilify the entire Muslim culture.
"A number of his claims regarding women and what they are allowed to do and not do are wrong - Islam teaches the opposite," he said.
Simmons had a right to free speech, but this had to be balanced against the damage done to innocent people, he said.
"I think it would be good for overseas speakers and commentators to be given some sort of advice in regards to our vilification laws here," he said.
"They leave and go back to where they arrived from, but they leave behind a big mess that we have to live with."
Simmons may not be a silver-tongued diplomat, but his words were more accurate than Carland lets on. There is, of course, the Qur'an verse sanctioning wife-beating (4:34), the devaluation of legal testimony by women (2:282), hadiths dictating that a wife can never refuse her husband sex, even if she is cooking or otherwise occupied, Sharia provisions forbidding a woman even to venture out of her house without her husband's permission, and much more. If Carland doesn't live by these, that's great. But it doesn't make them any less part of Islamic law.
UPDATE: Now Simmons says he didn't say it. Didn't say what exactly? Unclear. From his website, with thanks to Mentat:
Hello everyone. Lately, comments that have been attributed to me in the press have been printed. They are false. Please use your own logic and best judgement when reading media. Sometimes media is responsible and sometimes, it is not. You know me. And, I believe your instincts will guide you in determining what is real and what is not.
Well Simmons is completely correct in his assessment of Islam at it's rotten core. However, I reckon if the Vatican ever got round to considering the issue, I think they would also tell Catholic girls to think hard before marrying a member of Kiss.
Plus their music stinks, but netherless good on yer Gene, listen to the imans seethe.
I never cared for the music, but I will send him a thank you letter for his honesty about Islam - amazing how the truth is considerd to be hate speech by this oh-so misunderstood religion (death cult in my opinion)!
If only more celebrities would speak out as this does make the news unless the mass genocide by the jihadis of peoples around the world.
jihan
Jihan- You are correct. His music stinks, but he clearly understands the situation we are in today.
However, most celebrities won't speak out because they either are more interested in fan approval, they hate the West, especially America, more than they fear Islam. or they are self-absorbed egoists. In any case, they are in for a nasty surprise.
Truth speakers are always vilified
now now back in 76 when i was in 7th grade. i had all their albums. however i moved onto better music. i seen him once on orielly back when the roadmap was first being talked about. he basicly said give them [jordyptions] a statea after the first attack you can then declare war.
here is a little background on Gene Simmons,,
he was born in Israel, very poor family ,moved to United States age 9-, graduated college with BA in education ,,was going to be a teacher ,
"just because i stick out my tongue and spit fire doesnt mean i have any qualifications to advise anyone on relationships , money or career issues ,i dont " but he speaks his mind openly , and that is what more people who have access to the media should do , because i talk to many people who have no idea about what Islam truely represents ,,when stated the facts , the response is "i had no idea "
by the way ,,,i like the band ,,lol

I was never a big fan of Kiss, but I am a big fan of Gene Simmons now. About time someone had the guts to stand up to this vile Islam and tell it how it is.
Of course, Islam, can't stand the light of truth, and only can offer paradise to murderers of the rest of us. Keep it up Gene.
Celebrities can only speak out if they support Islam and defame the United States, Pres. Bush, Israel, etc. If "Barb" Streisand does it, it's the thing to do.
Bad Dhimmi!
The truth often comes from the most unexpected places and people.
Gene Simmons is the last person on earth that i expected to take a stand against the muslim cancer and to have the courage to tell the truth about this cult of death.
I never liked their music, but as of today ,i am a Simmons fan...still don`t like the music but i admire the guts and honesty.
bravo, bravo, continue the calls for the muslim islamic to be defeated.
Well freedom of speech ha! That gives me the chance to view my opinions of those who don't understand or don't want to understand. let me ask you what is Gene Simmons background, he was born in Israil. What is his faith, is it Jewish? If any of you watch the crap that goes on in Israil and Palestine. There his core roots. Who supports Irail in what they do? I am a muslim women and very proud of it but along with that I am also western. I have never walked behind my husband, my brother wash, clean etc. Do you do any of those things? My own father vacuums and till this day washes his grandchildrens bottoms on every nappy change and yet he is a full practising muslim. There are alot of un educated cultures out there that only learn what is passed on to them. So, what happens they mix culture and religion and what do you get terrorists or extremists. The muslim religion is about peace. But simmons commment only represents people with arogance, why do they not bother to research the verses where it explains in return of the condition as to repecting your husband, why so he won't go to other women. Following that it explains vise versa the husband must respect his wife and show he loves her, never raise a hand at her. How many non muslim men are out there that beat their wives, are unfaithful to them. Should we call them the ...........! extremists that see their wives as less than dogs. Gene, you great ar......le!!! Do some more research, think before you speak, look at yourself, for gods sake you look like Satan! No wonder you don't like the Muslims the Satan is mentioned to often in the Koran.
Muslim: After reading your post it appears that Islam isn't in favor of free speech unless it reflects the Islamic cult in a positive light.
You sound like a typical Jew hater. I know a few Muslims that are Americanized and don't behave like the rest. However, as a whole, Islam is a plaque, spreading like cancer. Fortunately, most of the world knows this, and aside from the appeasers, we continue to pass the word about this blood cult, as more Muslims continue to bring knives to gun fights, and are sent off to meet Satan.
Islamists continue to make the mistake of thinking that their words of peace outweigh what we see on television every day. 9/11/01 will not be forgotten, and neither will the fact that this atrocity was committed by Muslims....There are very few battles currently going on in the world that don't involve Islam, which is pathetic.
Until Islam is reformed into a peaceful religion, it will be considered nothing but another jailhouse cult by millions, even billions. Muslims aren't going to be able to bomb or machete their way into dominance. Look at Nigeria, where Christians just took out over 600 Muslims. Why? because the Muslims can't co-exist with any other faith.
Christians, Jews, Hindus, Shintos, Buddhists, etc. aren't going to be trampled on. I commend your husband for letting you walk beside you. That's awfully nice of him...
Muslims have no defense, nor do they have any legitimate excuse whatsoever for what they do. Islam will be defeated and knocked off of its current path. I refer you to "Spanky and the our gang terrorists" over in Iraq, al Sadr and his militia. Hiding behind women and children, hiding in Holy sites. These aren't men. Not even close.
Kidnapping civilians, beheading innocents, is this really what you want to be associated with? Islam is becoming the sickest joke on the Earth, so instead of blaming everyone else for their problems, maybe they ought to point their finger in the mirror. I'm 100% for Islamic reform, but it doesn't appear that Islam is, and that is where the problem lies.
Muslims feel that Islam doesn't need reform. Sad.
Dear Muslim;
thank you for your post ,you semm very articulate , i have a couple questions , and i dont mean any disrespect , i just want to learn more ,from your point, i have read in a few places ,about how the Koran explains 'how to raise a hand to the wife ,' and how the wife must ask permission to go outside , i am not the most brilliant ,maybe others can help explain these verses , but i try to understand your culture ,it just seems very repressive to me ,being in the United states ,where women have many rights , and yes there are many husbands who abuse women here but but they are dealtwith our court system and put in jail , where nothing happens to the muslem husband if he hits his wife ,look at the prince in Saudi araibia who beat his wife ,a talk show host ,and nothing happen to him ,and your comments about Simmons looking like saten ,with out make up he just looks like a regular guy ,,he is only an entertainer ,
thank you

Gene Simmons is the hero of the week for me!
I was a Kiss fan when I was younger, and now I’am going right to the music store to buy some more cd’s again *lol*…
I hope they get a lot of new fans after this J It is about high time that famous people are starting to speak their mind and forget about the PC crap. They are people with influence and access to the media. They can make a difference. Thank you Gene!
Here are some more information about the band and one can also search for their lyricks:
http://www.kissasylum.com/
I did so and found an interessting song. How about this…
Black Diamond
Out on the street for a living
Picture's only begun
Got you under their thumb
Hit it
Out on the streets for a living
Picture's only begun
Your day is sorrow and madness
Got you under their thumb
Whoo, black diamond
Whoo, black diamond
Darkness will fall on the city
It seems to follow you too
And though you don't ask for pity
There's nothin' that you can do, no, no
Whoo, black diamond
Whoo, black diamond
Out on the streets for a living
Picture's only begun
Your day is sorrow and madness
Got you under their thumb
Whoo, black diamond, yeah
Whoo, black diamond
Now, reading that text made me think of the black stone in Kabaa…
Did Gene spit blood? That would be cool...
Conor Cruise O'Brien's remarks in an article in the London Times, May 1989, comes to mind:
"Muslim society looks profoundly repulsive....It looks profoundly repulsive because it is repulsive....A Westerner who claims to admire Muslim society, whilst still adhering to Western values, is either a hypocrite or an ignoramus or a bit of both. At the heart of the matter is the Muslim family, an abominable institution.."
