NEW HAVEN — Hoping it’s not too late to stave off a terrorist attack on the nation’s rail system, three Washington officials came to Union Station Monday to support a bill that would dedicate billions to train security.The federal government has allocated $4.4 billion for aviation safety and $10 million for rail and other transit security, said U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-New Haven.
"When you consider that five times as many people travel by trains and other vehicles of mass transit than do our airlines, you get some sense of the imbalance that is occurring," said U.S. Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., who accompanied DeLauro and U.S. Sen.A bill approved by the Senate Banking Housing and Urban Affairs Committee would allocate $5.2 billion for public transit security, with $3.5 billion of it for physical improvements and the rest for training.
"We’re painfully aware of how fragile these systems are as the result of the attacks on March 11 in Madrid," said Dodd. "It was a wake up call to people. I hope these dollars are not too late."
Of course he didn't say anything about controlling our borders; and how do terrorists get in here?
Just for once I would like to see those of us responsible for homeland security think of a threat before the terrorists do.

Agree with you completely. Profile, Profile, Profile, of course that wouldn't cost 5.2 billion. Close our boarders and restrick entry from foreign countries, I for one am getting tired of supporting the world with foreign aide, and give away programs to illegals here.
Why we think that money is the only way is beyond me of solving this problem.

yeah zarqawi really needs to be caught that guy is one evil creep... one thing ive always wondered about this form of execution is as a human how do you condition yourself to do something so horrible. ive seen footage or pictures from at least the past 100 years of similar deaths done in serbia,yugoslavia,chechnya,africa,the middle east, asia and its just a really brutal way to kill someone. how someone could bring themselves to doing it is something that will probably never be known?
That is why you still hold "why can we all just get along" ideas Joseph. You don't understand. You grew up in a free world were people that do this sort of thing go to prison and are removed from society forever and we don't for me most part have to face them again.
In the Islamic culture taking someones head is completely acceptable behavior. So is stoning, setting someone on fire, and cutting someone throat or various other forms of taking anothers life. We humiliated a few prisoners and in the west consider that behavior an abonination. I would say the west has a lot to learn.
There is no magic bullet. This is going to magically go away. This modern conflict has been raging almost my entire life and we have not progressed in it very far. I say because we still try to deal with the situation in a civilized western ideal system that at the very least crippling us.
Do not misunderstand, this is not a new war. It's a war that has been going on since the birth of Islam. It's hard for you to understand because you compare them to yourself, you compare these people to everything and everyone you know. Forget what you know. It's bullsh!t anyway.
These sort of people need to be delt no less then the death card as harsh and brutal as needed. That is the only thing they understand. Kill in the name of Islam or be killed in the name of Islam. They see it as a win win situation for themselves. There is no incetive to stop. Its roots are in God and faith and religion. Another thing you seem have little knowledge in.
You my friend have some serious soul searching to do. It's an ugly world. Good vs. Evil and everything that goes along with it.

The word Islam means peace and it gives me inner peace. If you still believe Jesus is the Christ, then you are NOT a muslim... but then again, you probably were never a Christian, either. You need to study what both religions believe and get the facts straight in your head--it's obvious you have not done so...

I think you are being to harsh the American people need Islam to purify them like I was I mean after studying Islam without emotions I found that jesus moses and all the prophets including Noah and Abraham were all Muslims but remeber the quran states in the second chapter that there is no cumpusion in religion and in the last part it mentions that your religion to you and my religion for me. It also mentions in chapter 2 that there will be some from the Jews and Christians in the paradise.

The Coalition forces -- the ones trying to give freedom to the Iraqi's -- didn't just "humiliate a few people". There were multiple cases being reported by the Red Cross and Human Rights Watch (and confirmed by the US military) of Iraqis being beaten to death. Not to mention the rapes of women (and men).
Maybe it's because I grew up in the west that I consider "murder" and "rape" an "abomination". If you do not, I'm sorry...
I find many interesting things on this site, but I cringe at the cynical, negative Muslim bashing that seems to be tolerated here. I want to believe that there are moderate Muslims who will eventually speak out... but in the case of most, it seems they are too frightened to do so for fear of retaliation. As an American Jew, I have tried to see both sides of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, yet I am outraged with I read about a pregnant mother and 4 children killed mercilessly. My heart goes out to all the innocents.
