Imam Fawaz Damra, the Cleveland cleric and erstwhile media darling as a famous "moderate" Muslim, now stands accused of lying about his ties to terrorist groups. And today he is in more hot water. From AP:
CLEVELAND - A Muslim cleric accused of hiding terrorist ties is now the subject of a federal investigation into his finances, according to court documents.Fawaz Mohammed Damra, who already is charged with lying about his ties to terror on immigration forms, could be charged with tax evasion, money laundering, mail and wire fraud, according to documents filed Tuesday by federal prosecutors.
Damra, 41, leader of the Islamic Center of Cleveland, has pleaded innocent to a charge of obtaining U.S. citizenship by providing false information. He is accused of having ties to several terrorist groups, including the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and concealing those affiliations when he applied for citizenship.
If convicted in the trial scheduled to begin June 15, Damra could lose his citizenship and be sentenced to up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
Prosecutors revealed the financial investigation of Damra while explaining in a memo to U.S. District Judge James Gwin how they plan to use evidence seized in a search of Damra's home in suburban Strongsville in January.
Authorities seized a computer, copies of sermons and political speeches, the manifesto of the terrorist Palestinian Islamic Jihad and stacks of financial records in the search.
The "speeches, sermons, notes and articles are in many respects critical, inflammatory, and inciting toward the U.S., U.S. policy, the state of Israel and to Israelis and Jewish people in general," federal prosecutor James V. Moroney wrote in the memo.
Damra's lawyers want Gwin to exclude the evidence seized from the cleric's home. They said Damra's wife, Nasreen, consented to the FBI search at the time but was so upset by her husband's arrest that her judgment was clouded. The lawyers also say the search was illegal because it went beyond the scope of an arrest warrant.
We used to "deport" people as "undesirable aliens". The rules for that should be loosened. It is insane to be letting in Muslims at this point. Okay, most of them are harmless enough, but a lot of them aren't. How can you tell? Can you look into a person's heart and see if they mean you any harm? The safest thing is to just keep them out until their religion improves. Notice I said "safest" and not "most humane"? That's because I have no liberal guilt about excluding immigrants who want to kill me.
Isn't the law meant to protect us from the threat of violence as well as the deed?
Surely this would justify taking strategic and pre-emptive and proactive measures against potential threats as this?
The inflammatory and incitive messages of Qur'anic teachings are hostile in every measure to the culture and ethos of the West, so why should it be tolerated. It is only a matter of time before words lead to actions and then for those actions to result in tears.
Having said that, security policies of our governments will never fully solve the situation that we face.
Only the truth can do that, and that truth is found in a person and not with the sword.

These sites and forums are an important outlet for spreading the unabashed truth. I discovered Jihad/Dhimmi watch a couple of weeks ago and have been reading the daily articles and occasionally leaving a post.
These sites are visited regularly by dozens of my family members and friends who, as I do, use Jihad/Dhimmi watch as a regular supplement to their daily dose of news.
I was researching islam long before 9/11 and that attack was no surprise. My wife and I were watching the TV when the second tower was struck and a told her that this was ‘no accident but the work of islamic militants’. I have muslim colleagues and several Christian friends with family ties in the Middle East. The true nature of the jihad is denied by Western media and governments, and it is therefore up to individuals to search it out.
Sites like this turn the spotlight on the true nature of the islamic threat to the non-muslim world. Education in the facts will go much farther in promoting our collective security than any sanitized media PC stories or outright deception peddled by the apologists.
Keep up the good work. It is appreciated and it is making a difference. We will prevail.

And it is ultimately up to "We, the People" to make sure our reps and senators clearly understand what is going on because sometimes, they just don't... get it.
Chris, my sentiments exactly......our representatives have to be contacted, all of them. Islam is not taking over this country, it will be finished off before that happens, but again, our Government needs to know, that we know, and don't like it.

I am an optimist by nature and although it does concern me that this Imam is in my home state, I am more bewildered by the amount of US politicians, commentators etc that have buckled under the pressure of the Prison Abuse Scandel and the beheading of Nick Berg. The beheading should have rallied us all and yet we have people (news commentators and writers) still reeling over the abuse scandel and wondering whether the War On Terror was worth it, which has translated into posters on this site losing their cool and becoming unglued and playing into the hands of the Jihadists by saying things that violate the New and Old Testament.
Although I am an educator and coach I am afraid I don't have the ability to give a "Rockne" type speech over the interent that would have us keep the faith on the War On Terror. The Jihadis are now out in force even on this site. We have to keep focused since I am afraid we are in the first quarter of a long game.
The Jihadis see us (the West) as weak and not prepared for the long haul. I hate to admit this but some of the pro-War On Terror crowd, specifically commentators and writers have buckled, wringing their hands over a few malcontent soldiers and officers at Abu Gharib prison. I wonder if some of these wafflers also go into depression if their lattes are not made to their satisfaction or their BMW's are in the shop too long.
To make a long story short, whether we are conservatives, moderates, Democrats, Republicans and whatever our religious beliefs let's keep the faith on the War On Terror, logically telling the "unconverted" why we are doing what we are doing. The alternative to us succeeding is pure hell.

ISNA's Canadian conference is hosting anti-Jewish, anti-Christian speaker, the imam of the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Sheikh Al-Sudayyis. Al-Sudayyis has been quoted this year as stating that "Jews are the scum of the earth" are "monkeys and apes" and the people of the cross are the enemies who need to be fought. I live in Canada and don't get your hopes up for denying entry to the boastful Jew-Hater,the Khadr family admitted to ties to Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda. The recent stats Canada figures show Muslims have now out number Jews so the Arab Muslim vote has consideration in the up coming election. A Liberal MP was invited to a Mosque to show support for Muslims after some vandalism towards their Mosque,the video didn't make the news but I viewed it on a website and Cleric's mocked Christ and played to the crowd by doing a sermon on Islam being the true faith.
If Muslims are being taught this while Christians are in the Mosque then what goes on when it's just a Muslim crowd. It was shameful and the idea that Islam is tolerant or other faiths is a lie. I emailed the MP on why he stayed mute during this attack and he labelled me a racist and Islamophobe,I expect to murdered in the name of Islam,I just don't know when it will occur.

Thanks for the good comments. We need to remember that we all are facing a growing threat from islamic apocalyptic terrorism. It's happening, but for most Americans it does not have front-burner priority. Not yet, that is. One more 9-11 and the nickel will drop. What could top 9-11? A suitcase bomb, the assassination of the President, a terrorist attack upon Wahington DC.....
In the event of another 9-11 Congress should formally declare war upon islamic terrorism. No more beating around the bushes. No half-way measures. Apocalyptic islamic terrorism, and all other terrorism must be ended by eliminating all its soldiers, fans and supporting governments.
The country is not ready for this step, yet. It still seems out of proportion to the current threat. It doesn't seem quite real, yet.....
Yet there is a limit to our patience, our denial, our laziness, our comfort-loving, our entertainment-seeking, our excess partisan rancor and divisiveness. That limit is the next 9-11. Should that unfortunate moment befall us, then the world will see a united American Jihad unleash the dogs of war from their current choke chains and apply a heavy duty dose of whup-ass. Islam, a world religion founded by the sword, will be reformed by the sword, i.e by the US sword.
It will be terrible and a part of me hopes this never happens, while another part of me knows that this is in the cards.

You are absolutely correct. There is no question that an attack far worse than 9/11 will take place in the US. The only question is when.
I also agree with you as to what the response will be.
A large piece of real estate in the Middle East will probably end up being uninhabitable for the forseeable future.
It's unfortunate, but I see no other choice.
