Iraq Cleric to Widen War After U.S. Bombs Baghdad HQ

al-Sadrmay1004.jpg

NAJAF, Iraq (Reuters) - Iraqi Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr ordered his Mehdi Army Monday to launch a broad new offensive against U.S.-led occupying forces following a U.S. crackdown on his strongholds in Baghdad and across the south.

The U.S. military claimed new successes in campaigns against Sadr's forces and minority Sunni Muslim insurgents.

Sadr's chief aide told Reuters at his main base in the holy city of Najaf that a new phase had begun in a month-long insurgency across Shi'ite southern Iraq.

"We have now entered a second phase of resistance," he said. But U.S. commanders, helped by rival Shi'ite leaders, sound increasingly confident of containing the Mehdi Army.

Tanks flattened Sadr's office in Baghdad's Sadr City district overnight and U.S. spokesman Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt made a hard-to-verify claim that troops killed 35 fighters in the sprawling Shi'ite slum.

U.S. forces, spurred on by mounting irritation with Sadr among Shi'ite elders, have also squeezed the outskirts of Najaf.

With British forces around Basra, they have been taking back key positions such as police stations in a string of towns across Shi'ite southern Iraq. An armored U.S. column rolled again into the center of the holy city of Kerbala Monday.

Hoon said the situation remained tense around Basra and Amara and further violence was likely in the coming days.

"Our policy now is to extend the state of resistance and to move it to all of Iraq because of the occupiers' military escalation and crossing of all red lines in the holy cities of Kerbala and Najaf," Sadr lieutenant Qais al-Khazali said.

The U.S. commander in the Middle East, General John Abizaid, said his troops were doing their best to avoid inflaming religious passions by intruding on sacred ground.

But he said: "We will be patient, but our patience won't last forever. There is a limit to our patience with Sadr."

Im still standing by my bet that sadr will be dead, captured, or in exile in a week and a half remaining. Who knows maybe bush will try to do a fallujah in najef, karbella, kufa, and sadr city. I noticed that bush was trying to weaken sadr by getting his shite cleric rivals to rise up agaisnt him last week but im not sure how affective that was. Anyone know why sadr's militia guys always put black electrical tape around there RPG-7 rocket rounds? My thought is they are under the impression that it might cause the round to change the pattern in which it explodes?

I bet al Sadr feels honored that they named a slum after his family name......

Send that fat, lazy slob to Alah!!! What a creep.

He probably buggers little boys (his"army").

Tom do you think sadr's followers will melt away if sadr is killed? Im really not sure what would happen. It appears at least from photos and eye witness accounts he seems to have a large following in many shite neighborhoods citys and I wouldnt be suprised that at some point his followers might outnumber this "silent" moderate shite majority that possibly might not even exist and if does exist are they made up of fighting age males because it seems at least from pictures that sadr's group range from mid teens to early fortys.

I personally find it intriguing the amount of pictures/photos there always are at these type of events.
As Islamic fanatics do they not realise that pictures/photos are yet ANOTHER thing that are banned under Islam?

Hadith -Bukhari 4:47, Narrated 'Aisha
"I stuffed for the Prophet a pillow decorated with pictures (of animals) which looked like a Namruqa (i.e. a small cushion). He came and stood among the people with excitement apparent on his face. I said, "O Allah's Apostle! What is wrong?" He said, "What is this pillow?" I said, "I have prepared this pillow for you, so that you may recline on it." He said, "Don't you know that angels do not enter a house wherein there are pictures; and whoever makes a picture will be punished on the Day of Resurrection and will be asked to give life to (what he has created)?"

Or how about this one?

Hadith - At-Tirmidhi
"On the Day of Resurrection a neck will stretch forth from Hell; it will have two eyes to see, two ears to hear, and a tongue to speak. It will say, "I have been appointed to take care of three types of people: every arrogant tyrant, every person who called on some deity other than Allaah (swt) and those who made pictures"

Joseph,

There is a considerable amount of explosive in an RPG round, and the most common type of round is HEAT (High Explosive Anti-Tank). HEAT rounds are designed to direct most of the blast forwards in a thin, high velocity, high temperature jet of gas and molten metal. For both reasons a bit of tape ought to be entirely insignificant.

I have not noticed any tape on the RPG rounds, but is probably some sort of ID mark. That or Sadr's miscreants are even more stupid than I thought.

i read an article not long ago that the idiots who even try and attack tanks and other armored vehicles with RPG's were befuddled and flabbergasted why their weapons seemed to be bouncing directly off.

somehow the rumor started that the reason why U.S. armor is impenetrable is that every vehicle creates some sort of "electromagnetic radiation" that repels these weapons.

first off, this theory is totally ridiculous and hilarious. second off, the reason why U.S. armor is nearly invincible is because depleted uranium makes up the major component of our armor AND ammunition. putting black electrical tape on weapons will only make the weapons less effective...lets just hope these idiots will keep doing so and get themselves killed in the process.

by the way depleted uranium is not some sort of radioactive form of uranium...precisely because it is DEPLETED...it is probably the most dense and hard material every created and known to man...all due to U.S. Army research....which is another reason why all tanks and Bradley vehicles are protected by this nearly invincible material.

if you scroll down you can see some pics with guys with electrical tape tipped rpg7's

i think its a sadr thing though because the sunnis dont seem to do it.

Bin yameen:
Try to write more clearly and lucidly so that we can understand what exactly you are trying to say. Your comment reads like the ramblings of an idiot.

Zionistno1:
The same for you. If you have something to say, please say it in plain English, and try to learn to punctuate your sentences. Your comments sound like the babbling of a deranged madman. As for your charges, be specific, so they can be debated.

Binny/zionista,

Get medicated. Seriously.

bin yameen are you smart, or what I mean you have picked a Jewish name for yourself.
After all the Qur'an 5:32 says: "on that account: we ordain for the Children of Israel that if anyone slew a person unless it be in retaliation for murder or spreading mischief in the land it would be as if he slew all mankind: and if anyone saved a life it would be as if he saved the life of all mankind.
I mean after the American lead Forces saved Iraq from Saddamn. How could any person be at Fault with them giving them Freedom. For Saddamn was paying to kill the Jewish people.
And you know that when god released the Jews from Slavery he Blessed them and put the curse of death on the eygptions So we know you are not against your god.

" the temples in India are proof of Islamic history and its tolerance".

Please read the history of the Somnath temple
and Nalanda university destroyed by muslims. Every hindu/buddhist temple
in North India was destroyed by muslims invaders/
rulers.
(just like zoroastrian temples in Persia)
Some temples were rebuilt much later by hindu kings like Shivaji and the Rajputs when they started forming
powerful kingdoms of their own. Beautiful temples
like Meenakshi remained intact in South India because they were ruled by powerful hindu dynasties like Cholas and escaped Muslim vandalization.

please stop qouting scripture... both the bible and the koran are filled with hypocritical passages.

heres a question for yeah... say theres a muslim american soldier okay and say he really loves his country and he fights the war on "terrah" over in the middle east for the united states and say he happens to die in battle. does this mean he goes to hell because he follows the practices of islam even though he is fighting in the apparent god supported war on terror? or does he get his 72 virgins as promised because sense he is fighting for the united states he is now a good guy.

We look forward to seeing
lots more American body parts
slung on the wire.

God's blessing on
Syed Muqtada Sadr
for his bold resistance
against the Oil Imperialists KBR

Bin-yamin;
"..and pictures is misinterpreted here what it means is IDOLS and specific for worship.."

No Binyamin, it does not. The text clearly states that the item in question that Muhammed made this comment on was just an innocent cushion with embroidered animals on it.
"I have prepared this pillow for you, so that you may recline on it." i.e not worship it.
Hence the Taleban when in power in Afghanistan, banned the people from having any pictures, or even photos of their family.

Zionistno.1;
"America has done nothing for the Chechens when there pregnant have there belly’s slit open and the babies taken out and there throats slit by the Russians"

Do you protest when the Muslims are doing the
same thing?

Joseph;
" and say he happens to die in battle. does this mean he goes to hell because he follows the practices of islam even though he is fighting in the apparent god supported war on terror?"

#1 Some may think of this as a God supported war, I do not.

#2 Going to hell or paradise is dependant on one thing;

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil."
John 3:16-19

Salvation depends on this, not on whether you're a Muslim, who's side you were on in the war, or whether you're a 'good person' or not.

kc

Gordon Bennet:

Is that really your name?

If not, you're TAKING IN VAIN the name of a great, if nowadays much unsung, semi-tragic, Australian war hero - a Major-General who devised a way to slow and stall the Imperial Japanese advance down the Malay Peninsula in early 1942.

Finally down in Singapore, when his British superiors commanded him to surrender (along with them and their Army), he flatly refused, and, together with a handful of crack officers, in a small, open boat, sailed and rowed back to Australia.

The grit, expertise and experience of this select handful of officers proved totally invaluable in the tough jungle-fighting in which Australian troops were subsequently engaged against Japan, in New Guinea and the Islands, bringing victory to the Allies in the Pacific theatre, pushing back the enemy till the US B-29s were in range to deliver "Big Boy" and "Little Boy", ending the conflict decisively.

Sadly, GB himself was court-martialled for disobeying British orders, had to leave the service, but he then worked tirelessly as a civilian advisor to the military. He died of fatigue and a broken heart several years after WWII finished.

I can't say anything about India or Morocco. But I haven't seen any churches in Bahrain or Kuwait. And I CERTAINLY haven't seen any in Saudi Arabia - not in Jeddah, Riyadh, Jubail, or the al Khobar - Dhahran area.

Hey GB: only Muslims run around waving body parts in celebration. Like last night in Gaza. Thanx for reminding us that civilation has to dump Islam to move on.

A-nother church burned in the USA yesterday. ,Col Hackworth is the guy who gave the Pictures to the media wow! thought that old Col. Liked America? Guesss Not!

Hey guys:

It seems that the posts of bin yameen and zionistno1 (one and the same person, I believe) have been removed, as well they should have. I just want to point out the cowardice of that muslim poster, that he would be so intimidated on this site that he would have to pose as a Jew, and a completely unconvincing one at that! The posts are so transparent and the cowardice so obvious that I just have to repeat it - Muslims are girlie-men!

Joseph,

Thanks for the link to the "taped" rpg pic. I was especially impressed by the way Sadr's men deployed, sitting out in the middle of the street with no cover. It was also thoughtful of them to provide photo ID's (no disguise!). They *are* more stupid then I thought, and thank God for it!

Gordon Bennett:

It's difficult to respond to your posting except by wondering how someone with a good name could fall so low. You've chosen your allegiance. You will have to accept the consequences when they occur.

Mike H

Joseph

Why do you fear a poster who would quote scripture. You say it is hypocritical. Do you want every poster who is hypocritical to stop posting. Why does scripture upset you so much? I am always amazed that Atheists/Agnostics get so upset about the mention of religion. If you feel those of us that have faith are infantile than point out to us what you have a problem with and either debate us or let us believe as you don't believe.

Jesus said "You Shall Know the Tree By It's Fruit." I don't know anyone of the three monotheistic religions or any religion that would have a problem with that quote. You shoud weigh religion in this case Christianity/Judaism/Islam on a scale and decide what you don't understand and what you do.

Finally, Joseph you need to read a book by one of the great Christian Apologists. I would recommend you read something by St Augustine or St Thomas Aquinas. You need to understand something before you criticise it.

I get mad when people of a religious faith join in to a conflict where the "enemey" has a religious bent to there reason for fighting and we then return with our own religious slant. Religion does not make killing right. I personally feel that if we address the situation of islamic fundimentalism without our own christian bias then the chances of the united states coming out the victor over radical islam are far greater. But if it is seen that our "war" has christian holy war elements behind it then this whole thing will go on indefinetly. Then again there are probably alot of christians who would want the complete oposite because it supports there delusions of the rapture.

Joseph

Do you feel as upset at non-believers when their lifestyles become a hedonistic, self absorbed Spinal Tap parody? For whatever reason you take a small amount of "religious" people who want a good old fashion holy war and make it the majority. I support the War on Terror and the "outting" of Radical Islam but I am not anti-Islamic. People can believe what they want as long as they can face the music on Judgement day and realize what they do or don't believe has everlasting implications.

As far as the Rapture goes. Joseph that is a belief among a small amount of Chritians. It is not part of most Protestant or Catholic denominations. It came about in the 18th century and it's popularity has probably peaked. Again, I would suggest you read up a little more on "religion" before you summarily dismiss it.

Joseph,
How can you address Islam without knowing the basic beliefs, All must be converted to Allah and Islam this is stated over and over in the quran and hadiths of muhammud, and they don't mind how they do it. Now perhaps you would like to be awaken at 6am every morning with someone yelling over a loudspeaker to pray, but not me.May I suggest you read the story of muhammud's life, quite an eye-opener. I am anti-Islamic, but not anti-muslem, as they people have been sold a bill of goods.
Answering islam.org is a very good site, that is if you can handle the truth.
pebb

pebb what is it that im saying that it seems its hard for people here to understand. I am simply saying that while yes we have a right to fight islamic FUNDIMENTALISM we do not have a right to destroy the islamic faith or fight some religious war. they have just as much of a right to be a muslim as you to being a christian. you really need to put things in perspective just wonder how many people in the millions and millions of muslims do you think will actually try to push a conversion or death campaign on the united states which obviously your so afraid of. the chances of the usa being a islamic state is slim to none.

joseph - Any chance to to create the Caliphate and to achieve world domination is the ultimate dream of fundamentalists who will drag you, and anyone else along with them. If they can achieve this by "peaceful means," meaning through stealth, connivance, or means other than violence, all the better. But if "peaceful" means don't work, they won't hestitate to annihilate any and all that stand in their way.

You are naive to think that they won't try to make the U.S. a Muslim country using any means possible. If they don't, they won't have the Caliphate they so dream to achieve.

The word Islam means peace and it gives me inner peace. I converted to Islam from christianity six years ago it's really not what you think it is i mean I still believe in Jesus as being the christ and his virgin birth I still believe in the 10 commandments of Moses I've never been so happy in my live

Joseph,

At first view a global islamic caliphate seems completely absurd. But let's take a closer look. Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world. Part of its doctrinal core is that it is the LAST and therefore PERFECT revelation by God to human beings. Another core principle is the proclaimed intention of Islam to establish itself as the supreme world religion. It codifies the world into the Dar-al-Islam versus the Dar-al-Harb. It is the mission of Islam to convert all the world into the Dar-al Islam.
Let's take Europe. I spent a large time of my youth there, and it seems absurd to think of Europe as islamic. But look at history. In the 8th century Islam conquered Spain and advanced within 100 miles of Paris, before being turned back at the Battle of Tours in 753. Then, long after the last Christian crusade the Islamic world began its second great expansion, beginning with the conquest of Constantinople in 1453. The Ottoman Empire conquered Greece, Bulgaria, Rumania, Albania, Yugoslavia, most of Hungary and advanced all the way to the gates of Vienna, Austria in 1683.
There is a long history of islamic aggression which involves the large scale conversion of the new populations to islam by various rewards and punishments.
Look at Europe today. Demographically there is a growing Muslim population. One of the key features of this segement is its refusal to fully identify with the culture of its host nation. This is also due to the fact that Europeans have a hard time sharing their national identity with outsiders. European identity is basically based upon blood. Islamic immigrants do not fit and many may well not want to. There are some major cultural differences that now come into play. Islam has no separation between Church and State; this is dangerous. If current demographics continue Western Europe may well have a sizeable entrenched muslim population within 20 years; maybe even a majority muslim population.
What happens then? Will immigrant muslims change enough to accept Western secular culture and Western political ideals? Or will they seek to establish their own little Islam in their own little separate world. Once they realize that they are n ot so little any more, they may well want to reorganize their host countries along islamic rules. That will lead to the transformation of Europe into Eurabia.

jason a:

You were misled (no doubt with intent on the part of your Moslem deceivers).

"Islam" does NOT derive from the Arabic word
"salaam" (= Peace), as so often foisted on an ignorant Western public, but instead from the Arabic "aslan" (= Submission).

There's a wealth of difference between the two!

However, even "salaam" isn't what it first looks like. In English, "peace" = the absence of WAR, whilst in Arabic, "peace" = the absence of ENEMIES.

Such innate distinctions in fundamental concepts - profoundly enshrined in language and the thinking and behaviour that springs directly from it - point out the final inability of the atavism of Islam and the humanism of the West to be compatible.

Jason Abdullah:

"I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel-- which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people (Muslims)* are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!"
Galatians 1:6-9.
