Michigan Mosque Loudspeaker Issue on Ballot: "This Actually Gives Them More Power"

The latest on Hamtramck from AP:

HAMTRAMCK, Mich. - A noise-ordinance change that would allow mosques to broadcast calls to prayer on loudspeakers will be put to a citywide vote after opponents gathered hundreds of petition signatures.

The more than 630 signatures submitted to the city clerk's office were enough to force the City Council to rescind the amended ordinance or put it to a vote.

"We decided not to rescind the amendment, so it goes to the ballot," council president Karen Majewski said Tuesday night.

The council had voted unanimously last month to allow the Bangladeshi Al-Islah Mosque to broadcast the call to prayer five times a day.

The issue has divided this blue-collar city of 23,000, which once was overwhelmingly Polish and Roman Catholic but now has a sizable Muslim population.

It was not immediately known when the vote would be held in this enclave surrounded by the city of Detroit, but it is likely to be in the next few months.

In the meantime, Majewski said, the mosque can go ahead with its calls to prayer.

"There's nothing to regulate them. This actually gives them more power," she said.

Although the city's noise ordinance did not prohibit calls to prayer, attorneys for the city had recommended amending the law to specifically allow it, which would also allow the city council to regulate the noise.

The Al-Islah mosque plans to begin broadcasting the calls on Friday.

Abdul Motlib, head of the mosque, said he was confident the measure would win a citywide vote.

"Hamtramck has 23,000 people. If 500 or 600 people go against us, we're not losing nothing."

2) Allowing this is the beginning of the Islamification of sections of this country. Whole towns will be taken over, producing self-defining areas where the core ideology is a hatred of the very center of the West: individual freedom.

3) In actuality, the call is unnecessary. Muslims have watches and presumably can tell time. It is a calculated in-your-face slap.

The Council President speaks nonsense on this one. The opponents of the call need to obtain an injunction to stop the actions of the mosque until a decision can be reached at the ballot box.

Goddam! Aren't there any skinheads in Hamtramck? (And why WOULD Muslims flock to at town called "Ham-" anyway?)

Where are the skinheads when you need them? In a cellar somewhere complaining about "Jews taking over the world" or somesuch, no doubt.

I thought Michigan was supposed to be some kind of Militia stronghold? Don't any of those loonies live with "shooting distance" of the Hamtown loudspeakers? I guess they are all talk too, or perhaps fixated on the "imminent race war"... you know, the one that has been imminent for 100 years? Like Christians hoping for the End Times, the militias hope against hope for some kind of "United Nations" invasion or race war, to go down in a blaze of glory a la Waco or Ruby Ridge. But goddam, don't any of them have a wire cutter?

This b.s. reminds me of those jihadi pigf*cks in England praising Bin Laden and threatening to bring Sharia to England, install the Muslims flag over 10 Dowling Street, etc. I remember seeing that on tv and thinking, "Wait a minute. Aren't there thousands and thousands of white-power soccer hooligans in London? Why are these Jihadis safe to walk the streets in England?"

I guess the trashtalking hooligans, militia "men", and skinheads are just a bunch of Jewbaiters. Their unnatural fixation on homosexauls, negros, Mexicans, "Cuba-ricans" and Jews distracts them from THE ONE movement in history that REALLY DOES want to take over the world. Ironic, huh?

If I recall correctly, some White Power groups have actually allied with Islamist groups, due to the shared hatred of Jews between them.

That, and rampant idiocy in their ranks, I would presume.

If the matter is voted down by the townspeople I wonder if the mosque will go ahead anyhow?

Fight fire with fire. Have all the infidel places of worship in Hamtramck set their churchbells to start ringing at the same time as the "looney call to lithium". It would be very revealing to see the reaction of the city council and the allegedly "tolerant" muslim community.

Queen Isabella of Spain pushed the "moors" out of Spain. Maybe we should check her notebooks and see what her secret was.

Churchbells DID play an important part in rallying local people to assemble for defense throughout Europe and colonial America.

It's no coincidence that things may come down to bells vs blather.

My guess is that they will, since they typically claim not to be subject to "man-made" law anyway.

Don't think they'll stop at prayer calls,I've seen this before, next new Streets will have names
from the Quran,Police,firefighters and Hospitals
will have quota's to ensure employment but non-Muslims will slowly be intimidated into following
Islamic dress in the classroom, taking holiday's
around Islamic holy times,be expected to learn
about Islam and learn Arabic to deal with Muslims.

Prayer times and recognition of holy dates
will depend on the Imam's choosing Mecca time
or American times zones and starts of the full
moon locally.
Islam wasn't created to deal with Longitude
changes beyond local ship travel,Mohammed must
have errored on his vision of everybody outside
of the MiddleEast being slaughtered if not
converting to Islam(submission, not Peace as cleric's claim) and living near Mecca.

Good point, lobo91. This action will be opening the second front in the war on terror. Jihadists aren't stupid. They're trying to bring terror back to America as a way of 1) taking over the country and 2) pressuring us to pull out of Iraq. As long as they have mosques here, then they will perform, fund, and support terror right here at home.

They had threatened to start strangling a cat 5 times a day starting today...has anyone heard if they went through with it?

A good countermeasure is to ring church bells all day long, whats good for the goose is good for the gander.

It may just be worth a drive to go see whats going on, LMAO.

Lets not forget, although we don't hear them anymore, there are several daily Christian church bell ringing events, There is I guess, nothing stopping the Christian churches loudspeaker "bells" from being turned on either when you think about it. Multiply that by the different Christian secs, and it will be a very noisy place, mixed in with Black Sabbath, Jimmy Hendricks and Jim Morrison..

Just a few Christian tradions that can be re-implemented in the name of equality.

An tradition which was common some centuries ago was that the sound of church bells was a sure safeguard against lightning and violent tempests; and therefore the bells were rung vigorously during storms.

The "Passing Bell."
A beautiful and pious custom which prevailed in many Catholic countries was the "passing bell," which was rung slowly when a death was imminent in the parish. When the sick person was near his end the solemn tones of the bell reminded the faithful of their Christian duty of praying for his happy death and for his eternal repose; and after his spirit had departed, the bell tolled out his age -- one short stroke for each year...

How many people die every day?

"The Angelus."

One of the most important uses to which church bells are devoted is the ringing of the Angelus. This practice is distinctively Catholic. All religions, it is true, have had certain times for prayer; but they have had nothing at all like our Angelus, which consists essentially in the reciting of certain prayers at the sound of a bell at fixed hours.
The Angelus is a short practice of devotion in honor of the Incarnation of our Blessed Lord, and it is recited three times a day, in Latin -- at morning, noon and evening -- at the sound of a bell.

The Tower-Bell at the Elevation.

The practice of elevating the Sacred Host and the Chalice at Mass, immediately after the consecration of each, was introduced in the Latin churches about the beginning of the thirteenth century. It was then deemed fitting that those who were not present at Mass should also be invited to adore their Eucharistic Lord. And so the practice was begun of ringing one of the great bells of the church, to give notice to all the people, that they might kneel for a moment and make an act of adoration.

Of course weddings, and other community events often used the church bells a well.
