Dr. Pipes is quite correct- our respective economies depend on the $2B/day bilateral trade between the two countries.

However, since the mid-1960's, the Canadian State as fostered an elaborate social engineering program, now even entrenched in the Canadian Constitution, known as "multi-culturalism". That is, "New Canadians" are actively encouraged to retain the cultural baggage of their birth nations. As a corollary, all cultures are viewed through the prism of cultural relativism. Any hint of "racial" profiling or targeted law enforcement are going to be met with howls of outrage from those with a vested interest in the status quo: misguided Christian churches (generally, Protestant), immigration lawyers and the leftist media.

Accordingly, US Ambassador to Canada Paul Celucci MUST consistently and very publicly make the case directly to the non-muslim Canadian majority that Canadian immigration and internal security protocols are inadequate to protect North America from the islamist onslaught. This will remain His Excellency's most important duty to America during his appointment- for the betterment of both countries.

Multiculturalism only works when the foreign people are from cultures that share moral and ethical values with the host country, which most Muslims certainly do NOT. Moreover, when the immigrants are scrounging loafers, like this woman, Canada's fiscal wealth, as well as cultural wealth, is eroded.

If you want another telling tale in exactly the same vein, see the story of the Khadr family. They have openly stated their abhorrence of Western values, and their willingness to fight them, yet they are allowed into Canada to leech off our health care system. (Their son received spinal damage while engaged in combat with Western troops, the poor little angel.)

I must correct myself, the Khadr boy was wounded by Pakistani security forces, not Westerners. My apologies.

The Canadian immigration system is crap. I moved there in 1989 when I married a Canadian...I applied (after trying in vain to convince my fiance to move to the states, hes a police officer and had a fair bit of seniority built up so understandable I guess) 6 months before we were married and acheived landed immigrant status 4 years later...after being told at one point that all the documents I had sent in were "gone" (and to this day are still not accounted for) and since this was somehow MY fault that THEY had lost my documents I had to pay yet another 2,000.00 fee and get certified copies (they had lost originals)...upon asking one immigration official why my case was taking so long (after all I already spoke english, had a college education and was employed) I was told "off the record" that since I was American my case wasnt considered that important, "honey there are people in this world that deserve our attention more than you"...so it pisses me off even more that people like the khadrs are given special treatment...I will never become a Canadian citizen however I will follow their laws and live peacefully and respectfully within Canadian society.

You touch on an interesting point in Dr. Pipes' piece, namely, the difference in behaviour between Eurabian and US muslims.

Quite apart from the US melting pot approach to immigration, I wonder whether even the most hardended jihadi has misgivings against another outrage against a nation that has the Second Amendment in its Constitution, and a fully-armed citizenry. I suspect that any further attack by islamists on US soil will be met with an all-out citizens' response against American muslims by a minority of patriotic Yanks.

Writing to the press might open some eyes but the bottomline for you and your family is this:

Trust no one only yourselves;
As sad as this statement is, it is a reality. They can so easily allow foreigners in who openly admit there hatred and their opposition, why would they actually care about people who want a better life? Good luck Gary...its a long and very frustrating process. I had the FBI check done, and because I lived in Canada before my status was accepted I also had to have a RCMP check done. I dont find that I am treated badly here, most people dont even know I am an American (although some say I still have an accent, but I cant hear it)even if they do know I havent encountered any bad feelings...of course if I did I would certainly stick up for myself...point is if you are an educated, employed, english speaking American citizen you are at the bottom of the Canadian Immigration "to do" list. I dont know what the average time for the application to be completed now is...but back in 1989 it was 6-9 months (I was applying under family class since my husband is Canadian) my application took almost 5 years.

I don't fear Islam.....In its current state, I just have no respect for it. I know quite a few Somalis. Some are OK, but most are very uneducated. I don't mean by American standards, I mean by any standards.

I know people from 8 African nations, and the Somalis are by far the least educated and the worst mannered. If they feel Sharia law is what they're to follow, they need to move to an Islamic state.

I also know a few Police/Sheriff personnel. They tell me that Somalis on their beat break the law more than any other refugee. They also tell me that they don't play with this Sharia law rhetoric. If the law's broken (our law), the Somalis are taken to jail, period.

What's wrong with Somalis is the fact that they're used by the educated Muslim troublemakers to create problems. They're followers, not leaders. Personally, any Somali not living in Somalia should be thankful that they're still alive. Especially women, since their "men" use them as human shields as well, like the spineless punks in Iraq.

They should also try to learn the proper way to behave while visiting foreign soil. That, or better yet.......leave.

USAgirl~ The application package says that the wait is about the length that you say, 6-8 months. But after talking to immigration office here, we expect it to be closer to 18 months.

So far, the only debate I've seem much of over immigration to Canada (outside of US immigration), seems to be by muslims, and how to overcome the little that Canada is Already doing.

I had everything filled out properly, enclosed all necessary documents and paid the fee...after I hadnt heard anything for 1 year I contacted the Canadian consulate(in Buffalo)...I was told that they did not give information over the phone so I made an appointment and went to see an immigration officer. I arrived and was ushered into a large room where at least a couple hundred people were packed in like cattle (I later found out that the majority of these people had arrived in the US and were trying to get into Canada via the consulate...very few spoke english and most seemed to be in muslim dress) I was told that the person I had made the appointment with was "unavailable" and I would have to come back another time. I waited another 6 months and went to the Canadian Immigration office at the Niagara Falls bridge...once again "nothing they could tell me"...waited another 6 months and same thing..no one could tell me anything...except "be patient they were overwhelmed with applications" After another year had passed my husband was losing his temper and had a friend of his that works for the govt find out what was going on...this was when I found out that they couldnt find my file...finally the file was found in the basement where the inactive files are stored...empty except for my medical report...original birth certificate, marriage certificate, passport...GONE, immigration had no explanation( I was concerned because thats an awful lot of ID, especially the US passport with MY name on it, who has it and what are they doing with it) immigration assured me that the documents couldnt have gotten out of the office(then where the hell are they?) and I was told that since so much time had gone by I would need to reapply....another fee and coplies of all my documents were my responsibility (we got a lawyer at this point and it still didnt matter, in fact even the lawyer said my case was very low priority)...I kept right on them this time and it took a little over 18 months. The lawyer said that my first mistake was applying outside Canada...he said that it usually goes quicker if you apply from within Canada (under the family class anyhow, if thats your situation)...once again good luck, feel free to email me if you have any other questions...Id be happy to help if I can.

That is a bad story. I wonder if that's the way I'll go when I apply for USA citizen.

Concerning Canada and it's shari'a, there are many of us, even apostates, who are against this. I am on the mailing list of the Humanists' Association of Canada and HAC is actively fighting shari'a implementation. There was a blurb on CBC (a relative of BBC?) in Jan. where they interviewed that Somalian and several Iranian expats. The only ones in support of shari'a were a few men with those hats, that one woman, and several ordinary people (immigrants). The ordinary people didn't want any part of shari'a. What little part of Islam that they still were hated it, but for the most part they were apostates, so if shari'a is there, then they die.

Needless to say, I die too because I'm an apostate (a secret one).

Muslims wanting implementation of Sharia law in their adopted countries of residence are taking an arrogant approach, and most likely feel that their level of importance is far greater than it actually is.

Who in the world would be stupid enough to want to allow this type of law to be put in place after watching how these barbarians conduct their business?

Good luck to you too...I think that most western countries have tightened their immigration...but I still think that people who genuinly want a better life and want to live within the laws of that country and want to integrate themselves should be welcomed. I have a friend (her parents were born in Pakistan, she was born in Canada) whose parents arranged her marriage, brought a guy who was in his 50's (she was 18) over from pakistan to marry her...she ran away from home and was on her own. She moved from the west coast to the east and hasnt seen or spoken to her parents...she was forced to cover up (even though she didnt want to...so much for that being the womans choice) and hated what islam taught...once she was gone from home she wasnt muslim any longer, dressed as she pleased and ended up marring a really nice guy(that she chose) from brazil...(BTW off topic but their children are gorgeous..very exotic looking) she said she is still scared that her father will find her, he threatned her when she left...bringing sharia to Canada will just reinforce idiots like her dad...and im sure hes not the only one.
My husband is a police officer and was called to a domestic last night...the couple was muslim (she was covered but not her face) she had bruises and was trying not to cry when he and his partner arrived. The husband didnt deny that he hit her...he said that she "disobeyed" him and that they could not arrest him as he was protected under islamic law...he was cuffed, read his rights and taken away...obviously he already thinks that Canada is under islamic law...and I know that sharia in canada is supposed to be only for civil cases...but clearly under islamic law the husband is allowed to strike the wife under certain circumstances..how long before they arent happy with just civil cases.

I have a story to relate to all of you about "Muslim Assimilatation". First off, it doesn't happen.
When I was going to school at Stanford, I was in a car accident in which I came very close to dying, the person that saved my life was another med student from Pakistan.
We( my group that I hung out with) had classes with him, but didn't really care for his attitude?, but we tolarated him during our study groups.
When the accident took place, he was in the e.r. on service rounds, he literally would crawl up into the bed and hold me when I was having seizures.
Afterwards, I came back east to recover and to be closer to my family, he followed me here.
We started to date, he seemed to have changed his point of view about the "West".
Everything was fine for a few years, didn't seem to really practice "Islamic teachings".
He drank, smoked, ate pork.
Then 9-11 happened.
The first disturbing thing was, suddenly, my opinion on anything was not important, I was a woman, therefore my wants and needs didn't come into play.
The next thing was he met with my father to discuss my future.This went over like a lead bulloon, especially since we had been raised to always be very independent.
Dad told him he needed to talk to me, which was not what my friend wanted to hear.
Then the retoric really picked up, "we are a deginerate nation", "woman have too much freedom here and thats whats wrong with our country" "Shira should be put into place" Etc, Etc.
My anger had been growing for awhile and the end finally came, when he made it very clear that a marriage to an American woman was to do 1 thing only, and that was to have as many "American Muslim children as possible".
"America was shit and Muslims were going to change it" These are all direct quotes.
I got so angry, I punched in the nose, it turned into an actual fist fight, he didn't get the best end of it( I have 8 older brothers, need I say more?) and I turned him in to a friend of my families that works with the FBI to keep an eye on him.
For the most part, it is not possible for Muslims to assimilate, it goes against everything they have ever been taught.
Women in the west are to be used for their purposes, as with our own laws and rules of our society.
We need to stop being a nation of politicly correct idiots and demand our lawmakers and elected representitives do what the people demand in order to protect our (and it is our, we don't have to explain anything to the rest of the world) way of life.

Since I share my student accom. with a girl from Somalia, I shall defend the poor people. Somalis describe themselves as environmental refugees, that is people whose resources and expertise i.e. water or water management was not sufficient enough for their population.

I researched using the internet only to find the imbecile UN and US united to deny humanitarian Aid to this poor country on the grounds of non-functioning government. There is also a smear campaign by Jewish influenced media to attach Al-Qaeda to Somali people. This is just unfair and does not help our fight against terror as it blatantly appears to be a plan to destroy Muslims than Al-Qaeda.

Most immigrants to Sweden throw away their passports and visas. A rising trend is manipulation of the skin on their own fingertips to avoid getting caught by fingerprinting.

In other words, we have a very vague idea of who gets into Sweden. Other countries should take this into consideration when designing their counter terrorist systems.

Yes, but will anybody tell us how? In Sweden we have large areas where immigrants from outside Europe live. The employment rate is down to 10% of the adult population. The rise of satelite television means that they can and do watch a lot of TV from their homelands.

Sweden and a lot of other countries are moving into the "information society", but many persons are not moving with the rest. There will always be problems for quite a lot of people on the left hand of the bell curve, but at least they have the benefit of getting 20 years of prolonged childhood to assimilate into the culture they and their parents where born into.

Regarding my apostacy, I was actually a secret convert as well. I converted to that fringe group from Tuscon, the Submitters, aka 19ers. I was more fundamentalist than the real guys for about 2 months, and then my brain kicked in and I had serious doubts. It took perhaps another year before I was totally free again. We have to get tough and absolutely demand that our way of life be protected, no "shira laws" to be implamented, schools actually teach the fundamentals of education, reading, writing and arithmatic, not "fundamentalism".

There has to be a hard line drawn on what is acceptable in our society and what isn't.......

We have a nation that feels stigmatized by an original sin that can only be washed away when its population is no longer significantly white. We have a nation that craves immigration the way a suicide bomber craves death.

We are paving over the country in the name of social justice. Anyone should be offended by what we are doing to the land.

Maybe we are reaching the point where something can be done. There does seem to be a growing constituency that has thrown off its guilt and denial. The most important thing would be for the press to give voice to anti-immigration concerns, to link it to security and terrorism, but also point out the environmental and quality of life considerations. Most importantly, expose the jihadist sentiments of our new neighbors. Don't you wish the press had the courage for that?

No, it teaches to kill those who want to kill. Most of the quotes I constantly am flushed with miss the context and circumstances in which it was revealed to their prophet.

Why I am angrily concerned is that our Christian people have been turned into violent Zombies by Israel. Toronto Somali Immigrants cont...

The mother of a good friend of mine teaches public school and has a lot of Somali kids in her class.

According to her, these kids are very difficult to discipline, because the fathers are not involved at all with the upbringing.

The Somali kids mothers can't be contacted because (get this); the kids have at least 3 different names! The families are more like tribes, usually an 'uncle' or an available male relative takes turns in dealing with the school administration (and reluctantly, I'm told).

The father couldn't care less, he is often hanging out with his male friends at the local donut shop all day, and he often lives separately from the women, in yet another subsidized apartment.

The different names for each of these Somalis (culled from several different relatives names), comes in very handy when applying for MULTIPLE WELFARE ASSISTENCE! And if they get in trouble, they just switch from one ID to another.

This is the cultural norm for them. Do you know what the real name of Yassir Arafat is (Mohammed Yasser Abdul-Ra'ouf Qudwa Al-Husseini!).

Now obviously I don't know what was taught to postulants in Irish convents pre-Vatican II, but let me assure you that as a convent-educated school girl in the 60s and 70s there was never, ever a whiff of anti-semitism in my schools (I attended 2 convent schools in total and yes, we did get religion shoved down our throats in large doses). My pre-Vatican-II-convent-educated mother was best friends with our next-door Jewish neighbours (yes, I know this sounds corny, but it happens to be true, we lived in a suburb that had a synagogue).

In all my life growing up in Dublin I never once heard an anti-semitic remark from people of any generation. In my innocence (or ignorance)I never even knew it existed.

My point is, that if anti-semitism was pushed in the convents as you say, it certainly did not permeate through to the people educated in those same convents. Or indeed to the population at large.

I realise this may have been a throwaway remark, but as a patriotic Irishwoman I've got to defend my country and our nuns who were always at the forefront of women's education in Ireland!!

There really isn't, in my opinion, much support for the IRA, particularly among the younger generations (I'm making myself sound ancient). I think blind support for palestinian arabs is, as you say, knee-jerk support for the perceived underdog against the oppressor, mirroring Ireland vis-a-vis Great Britain. The young don't read their history books, they just swallow - as in other countries - the stronger propaganda. Perception is all.

With the coming of the Celtic Tiger, Ireland has changed so much. I don't get the chance to go over that often, but when I do, I find Dublin is like a foreign country. PCness reigns supreme and as far as I know, the EU is still very popular. The Irish pride themselves on being good Europeans and do not define themselves in opposition to the UK anymore, they have found a new, confident identity in the EU. There has been massive immigration over the last few years which has certainly changed the face of Dublin and other cities - talk about not learning from other countries' mistakes. People are much more materialistic than they used to be, understandably so, I suppose, but the 'keeping up with the Joneses' can be off-putting, though it will probably abate with time when people get used to their new-found wealth.

Having given what are just my personal impressions, I don't consider myself in touch with current opinion at home anymore, (I know, I'm ashamed) but I will try and remedy that and keep you posted, if you're interested. If there are any other Irish posters/lurkers out there, please help me out here!
