Reuters: "Iraqis Shocked by Beheading, Despair Over Violence"

Above is the headline to a Reuters story. Their caption to the above photo, meanwhile, is:

A video frame grab taken from an Islamist website May 11, 2004, shows American Nick Berg as he is grabbed by one of his captors moments before he was executed. Most Baghdad residents on May 12 condemned al Qaeda's beheading of Berg, but many said his death was just the latest atrocity in a cycle of violence that is driving them to despair. From the story:

Even in the Baghdad Sunni Muslim stronghold of Adhamiya, where there is fierce opposition to the occupation, many residents were appalled by the decapitation of Berg.

"We denounce this act. No-one can accept the killing of another human being in this horrible way," said Yassir Saleh, a 30-year-old barber. But he too pointed to a tide of violence that has swept the country since the fall of Saddam Hussein.

"Sometimes I really can't understand the logic of what is happening, all the violence that I could have never imagined would take place in my country," he said.

Many Iraqis say they oppose the U.S.-led occupation but also despise insurgents whose suicide attacks, mortar strikes and bomb blasts have killed far more Iraqis than Americans.

Issa al-Khalidi, a 65-year-old pensioner sitting in one of the oldest coffeehouses in Adhamiya, also condemned the killing but looked around nervously as he did.

"It's a brutal, inhuman act. As Muslims our religion prohibits us from committing such acts," he said.

Of course. It's practically obligatory to say this is every story about Islamic terror that goes out to the mass media in the West. But if only he could convince his fellow Muslims of this!

"People with their own interpretations of Islam are coming to this country and killing left and right, and the Americans are just providing them with the pretext to do so."

But some of the city's poorer residents said they supported the killing, arguing it was acceptable retribution for the abuses the U.S. military had committed in Iraq.

Yes. It's only the poor who think this way, isn't it? If only we could give them a fair shake economically, the whole problem of jihad terrorism would melt away, wouldn't it?

Aside from this silliness, where was the Reuters story about how the vast majority of Americans, and American military personnel, condemn the Abu Ghraib abuses?

Where are our snipers?

I feel so sad for his family and the friends and
relatives. My deepest sorrow for mr Berg and all
that knew him.

What in the world were those insain executioners trying to prove, and using Gods name for revenge.

This is the first thing I've seen in this war that has truly disturbed me to the point I'm not efficient at work. I keep playing in my mind that poor kids last few seconds before he was murdered and I've been sick to my stomach all day. For the first time in my life I face the questions Who am I? How can I stand for this.. What can I do. Can I do anything?

With what I do for a living I can only share generalitis about my views, and ramble a bit.

This is the War that the American President wanted ..No way we can say anything against people that fight for there freedom eg ...palestein

Massimo~ Unless you are suggesting that President Bush _Asked_ Al-Quaida to ram planes into our buildings, this war is not one that he 'wanted.' It has been proven and proof continues to pour out, that Saddam had ties to those scum. This is part of the War on Terror and the terrorists started it.

Oh, and those poor palestinians? Can you explain to me why they were kicked out of Arab nation after Arab nation for well over 100 years before Israel came to be? Or why they are 2nd-class citizens in those countries to this day?

Massimo~ Here's some history of the palestinians for you:

The proof is before your eyes...

I urge all american citizens attending this forum
to ask their congressmen to stop further muslim immigration to USA
Otherwise, You will be flooded like Europeans and it will be the end of Western World and triumph of barbary

Stop further immigration and take a long hard look at the ones that have already slipped through.

The Palestinian LIE is one of the biggest of the last century. Sadly, it is spread by the media, which I consider to be one of the biggest disservices the media has done to it's own readers. Now, they are doing it again with this iraqi war, and their obvious covering up of what Islam really is.

Today's news shows Berg was offered a flight out of Iraq by the US army, but he refused,
Berg was NOT part of any contracting company for the rebuilding of Iraq, he was there on his own, and, he is Jewish, which makes me question his sanity. Why on earth would a Jewish person walk right into the middle of an Arab killing frenzy knowing the way they feel about jews?

Rumsfeld is in Iraq, Giving the troops moral support as they deserve. Also news is slipping out that much of this Iraqi prison abuse is done not by our Military MP's but by the Iraqi IP force. I suspect this will be revealed more and more over the comming days, and be unreported by mainstream media.
