RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — Americans were among the casualties of an apparent suicide attack Saturday in the northwestern city of Yanbu, a U.S. Embassy official said. Diplomats said two suspected terrorists, including a bomber, were killed.
"Americans are among the victims," the official said, without providing further details on their condition. The official spoke on condition of anonymity.
The Embassy official said the U.S. consulate in the Red Sea port city of Jiddah was investigating the attack with Saudi authorities. The attack took place in Yanbu, along the Red Sea coast, 220 miles northeast of Jiddah, where some Western oil workers live.
The official said other Westerners were also thought to have been targeted in the attack. Saudi police refused to comment.
Diplomats, also speaking on condition of anonymity, said one of the attackers detonated explosives strapped to his body and the other was killed by police.
Hi Mahmood,
Having just read about the attack in SA, I'm getting worried about my brother who is going with his girlfriend on holiday to Bahrain this summer. I know Bahrain is a very different country to SA, but still these indiscriminate jihadis seem to turn up anywhere and everywhere.
I guess it's selfish to worry about my brother when there's so much else wrong in the world. But I can't help it, I'm just worried.
Damn,
I was happier here when they were killing each other off. I guess it was too good to last.

The sooner the West frees itself from dependence on muslim oil, the better. Islam is best dealt with by confining it to muslim 'reservations', such as Saudi Arabia, Iran, etc. A total insulation from the rest of the non-muslim world is what is needed, no immigration and no trade. The rest of the world will prosper while the muslim theocracies will be left to wallow in their backwardness. How long do you think it would have been before a system such as the taliban ever achieved landing a man on the moon? Islam is the enemy of free thought and innovation. It's politics are poison for human development.
This is why I am not concerned about the rising cost of oil in the USA (who still enjoys lower prices than europe or the uk), because it helps light a fire under the butts of the creative minds in this country (USA) to invent new forms of energy (i.e. hydrogen based, electric, hybrids, other drilling areas etc). Now if the auto companies could just make a hybrid, etc. car that looked good, more people would buy them. Make a sports car using alternative energy sources, and just watch the shift happen!
When you start talking alternative energy such as solar or hydrogen, you are talking unlimited energies. It is only a matter of time before this comes about. The sooner the better.
That is why here in America a whopping 84% of Muslims voted for George W. Bush, the oilman. Because the Democrates were running Al Gore, who envisioned the elimination of the intercombustion engine in the near future and as his running mate was a sure fire boggy man, a jew. A most threatening combination for most Muslims.
Anyway, I saw tonight on the CNN ticker tape running under the lovely Sassi Kotto, that some ding-a-ling Prince in Saudi Arabi blamed "Zionism" for this attack.
Some of those flat Earth adhering oddities never will accept the real world and should be left to whallow in their own self inflected ignorance and backwardness.

I just heard one of them was dragged through the streets attached to the back of a car. Could this be a revenge for similar humiliations carried out by crusader forces on Muslims?
Rather than bringing “civilisation” to them, you brought savagery.
Hybrid cars are already feasable. However they cost about $4k more than the same car with a standard combustion engine. This is because they have essentially two motors. While I am not a fan of subsidies I would rather see the government subsidize hybrid cars than waste money on boondoogles like ethanol. I see it as a national security measure.
Six westerners were killed by terrorists who spraying automatic fire after burstintg into an oil contractor's office in Yanbu. An additional 25 were wounded. Among the dead are two Aussies and two Americans. One of the victims was dragged naked behind the escape vehicle until Saudi security forces killed the alleged perpetrators. As barbarous as that was, what was totally noxious were the comments by Prince Abdullah-the same prince Abdullah whom you may recall who was welcomed to Bush's Crawford ranch a few years back.
Here's what Abdullah said to a group of Princes as reported by the AP.
The U.S. Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, James C. Oberwetter, condemned the attacks and offered condolences to the families of the victims. "The United States appreciates everything the Saudi authorities are doing to fight terrorism, including here in the kingdom," he said in a statement.
Crown Prince Abdullah, speaking on Saudi television, said: "The kingdom will eliminate terrorism no matter how long it takes."
Later, the Saudi Press Agency quoted Abdullah as telling a gathering of princes in Jiddah that "Zionism is behind terrorist actions in the kingdom. I can say that I am 95 percent sure of that."
He said Zionism had misled "some of our sons," but did not elaborate. Anti-Israeli sentiment runs high in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere in the Arab world because of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
And this is taken as gospel by the idiot reporters in the AP.
Let see there was another bomb blast last week in Riyad and now this. The Saudis claim that the perpetrators of this event were the same ones who hit the foreign resident compound last fall in which two children of Lebanese Maronite expats were killed as i recall.
I'm beginning to smell a rat in these events and, what I find abhorrent is our government falls all over itself thanking the Saudis for their quick actions as a valued ally.
I think that internicine war has broken out in the House of Saud and that one wing has arranged for and funded these terrorist events so as to knock off the other. After all we had intelligence reports about Saudi support for foreign jihadiusts in Iraq, so why not within Saudi Arabia to scare the bejeezus out of foreign non-Muslim technicians who run all the infrastructure in the Kingdom.
Of course! The jews did it. Never mind that jews aren't allowed in saudi arabia....
