Let's look at this threat we are facing from radicalized islam. Petrodollars fuel islamism. Starve the arabs for money, and islamism shrivels (never to die entirely, though). The Yanks have now spent over $100B in the current Iraq war. How far would these funds have gone towards research into a "Manhattan Project"-scaled oil-replacement program? Hugh has often mooted this on this BBS, while Mentat has posted regarding promising artificial photosynthesis research. The West has the intellectual capability to wean ourselves from what Jeremy Rifkin calls "de-carbonizing" (ie., burning fossil fuels); that is, we can develop non-oil sources of energy IF the political will is there.

Islamists have serious psycho-epistemological problems. Most stem from the early fusion of Arab mentation, through its language, with Islam. Arabic became the official language of Jihadist conquered peoples just as Islam became their imposed religion (philosophy).

Psycho-epistemology refers to cognitive operations of the human mind, particularly from the interaction of the subconscious storage and retrieval system with the conscious mind.

There is no escape for the human for his shaping by means of language: language is the most powerful formative agent in children; its effects persist lifelong.

Abdullah most probably knows he is lying to throw off the scent, so to speak. Beyond that, it is highly likely that he truly believes as quoted, ''It became clear to us now that Zionism is behind terrorist actions in the Kingdom. I can say that I am 95 percent sure of that.''

Poorly modulated emotionalism and the use of emotions as means of cognition are hallmarks of this Arab-Islamic mentality, though not unique to these peoples. It is easy to imagine his finger waving and garments flapping as he "spiritedly" spouts, seriously believing much of what he says.

There is much more in those simple comments; Arab-Islamic psycho-epistemology is involved.

The problem is not understanding their psycho-epistemology. It is discernible in their writings and statements, and they are far from complex as people and thinkers. The problem is that our own people, leaders, "statesmen," legislators, pundits, journalists, academics, and populace at large simply remain totally ignorant of how the Arab-Islamic mind works. They remain ignorant of the fact that Islam and Arabic fused early, and, from a psycho-epistemological perspective, are inseparably fused in perpetuity.

The latter means that Islam was infused early on with Bedouin thinking. Mohammed was just one of the Arab guys, with those cognitive operations they all had. Arabic grew and spread right along with Islam. Islam shaped Arabic just as Arabic had shaped Islam.

Going to the other end of the cognitive pipe, absorbing Islam means that one will absorb and use many of these cognitive methods, most of which operate on automatic. You have to think your way out of these as well as all other processes which operate from the subconscious.

Understanding the enemy means understanding how he thinks, particularly understanding the automatic functions of his mind. Not only is there authentic predictive value, but that understanding leads to the methods for defeating that enemy.

We tend to laugh at the rubber stamp verbal automatisms of people like Crown Prince Abdullah. All well and good to laugh, but there is a very serious side, which means that we cannot approach the Abdullahs solely with our Western-European-American cognitive styles and expect to get the results we want. We must seek to get into their minds, using their minds and thoughts and actions as the doorways.

I agree completely Earl. $100 billion invested in a Manhattan project to save the world from petrodollar-funded Wahabism would have been well worth the investment. It may have been our only chance.

Oh, stop the whining about importing oil from SA. We've TRIED to get oil from elsewhere, but the state governers refuse to allow drilling off the coast (even Bush in Florida, an otherwise decent guy), the Dems blocked ANWAR, and the deal with Russia hasn't come through yet. Stop pointing fingers when your own senators and/or representatives are probably doing everything they can to make us MORE dependent on foreign oil to score political points.
