Slavery and genocide in Sudan, much of which has been motivated by jihad ideology, is not a right/left or east/west issue but an injustice which must be the concern of all those who support universal human rights and the equality of dignity of all people.
Says Jane of the Armies of Liberation blog:
Nearly 1,000,000 Sudanese civilians have been driven from their homes and are vulnerable to attack, without food or shelter. The Sudan has blocked international organizations from assisting or even assessing the danger. Reports of murder, massacres, rape, mutilation, and kidnapping are well documented. Human trafficking and wide spread slavery are also on the official list of atrocities occurring daily in the Sudan.Pro-government militias have a free hand in the slaughter of women and children, unless that hand is blocked by a virtual angry mob. It is urgent that we attempt to interpose ourselves between the slaughterers and the families they target.
Mobilizing as a political force, the blogsphere has already made an impact in the Spirit of America campaign, collecting over $40,000 in 5's and 10's. In this action, money is not required — only a click of protest. National and international bodies will take action when it is in their interest to do so. Let's make it important.

This letter states it is the Black Muslims who are being enslaved. However, every newsworthy article has pointed to the fact that it is the Christian Blacks who are being captured and forced into slavery.
For the past 30 years or so, there's been a war of slave-poaching and genocide by Arabs against the black, Christian and animist residents of southern Sudan.
Now, with a tenuous cease-fire between the Jihadis and Christians there (with both sides exhausted), a fresh crop of young Arab "militants" are directing their attentions to the southwestern Sudanese province of Darfur, where the majority of inhabitants are Moslem, but non-Arab, black people. These are being slaughtered and ethnically cleansed in their multitudes by the youthful Arab northerners.
The hypocrits of the international Left frequently give lip-service to anti-racist and anti-sexist sentiments, but when the perpetrators are Arabs or Moslems, strangely, they reflexively snap into total silence or some weep crocodile-tears - or, more often, leap to become their abject apologists.
Right on, followthemoney.
and I wonder why do we support this ignorance?
this travesty of equality . . .
we thought we could sit down at a table and be able
to work things out, settle our differences,
be one happy family of mankind.
It was a dream
and the dream dies hard.
Take it from an ole hippy.
The un is corrupt,
does not represent
enlightened society,
it's sick at the root,
it's time for a change.
What can I do to help in the sudan? The UN's lack of action in this war is despicable.
