In related news,Reuters quotes defense officials as reporting that already this week the U.S. military punished two Army Reserve soldiers who assaulted prisoners while working as guards at Guantanamo.
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A 24-year-old military policeman will face a public court martial in Baghdad next week, the first of seven American soldiers to be tried on charges of abusing Iraqi prisoners, a U.S. military spokesman said Sunday.Stung by photographs of humiliation that have hardened Arab anger at the United States, the army promised full media access when Specialist Jeremy Sivits goes on trial on May 19, but it was unclear if the court hearings would be televised.
"It is not our intention to hide anything," Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt told a news conference, though he has insisted there would be no "show trial."
Sivits, who faces three charges, including one of maltreating detainees, is one of seven military police to be charged with abusing prisoners in Baghdad's Abu Ghraib prison, where Saddam Hussein's torturers tormented thousands of Iraqis.
I don't agree with what these military policemen did but:
If a "brave" muslin were to do this to a none muslin prisoner do you think the "leaders" of his country would take action? Don't hold your breath waiting if it ever happens. They would praise and reward him for his wonderful religious work.
"Hardened Arab anger"? The hypocrisy of that statement is astonishing! One would think that Arab countries were bywords for civilized behavior instead of for raw hatred, bigotry, violence, and barbarity. Frankly, I must confess to not caring what the Arabs think about the Abu Ghreb mess. Yes, the soldiers were wrong, and their acts shame themselves and taint this country's image. However, what they did was far less than what goes on in jails in Arab countries. Moreover, all the ones doing were not American; some of them were Iraqis. Some Arabs hate us no matter what we do. We do good for them, and they hate us; we do bad things -- seldom -- and they hate us, too. Some of them will just use Abu Ghreb as a cover to commit terrorist acts that they intended to commit anyway. So, the Arab street could stuff it, IMO.

I saw Linny London's lawyers on Fox and they had a really convincing argument for some of the photos. They said they were staged to be used in interrogation. Show them to one of these insurgents and say "Look what can happen, an American woman holding a Muslim man on a leash, tsk tsk tsk. Wouldn't it be better to just tell us where the IEDs are?" What if these *were* staged. Everyone's frothing at the mouth before we know anything about the situation. In these days of CGIs, a picture may be worth 1000 words but it could be a fantasy unless there really is a starship Enterprise.

I think the answer is no, so what does that have to do with anything. Arab countries have no freedom and no democracy, and it is obvious. Is america is treating the wrong by doing more wrong. Both are wrong, and both are not justified.
P.S. I think what america is doing in Guantanamo is extremely barbaric, and i think that does show how the US treats non americans. Please justify why a democratic, free, human-rights abiding country would do that to prisoners.

Being a free society doesn`t mean that you are free to commit crimes against it .
Like any civilized society, it has laws that govern it. Yes; the actions that are taken by our justice system to protect this nation from enemies foreign and abroad are rightfully challenged in our courts every day and if there is proof that the detainees are innocent, then they shall be released as hundreds have from Guantanamo.

And by the way, there have been a lot of detainees at Guantanamo that have not wanted to leave because the treatment was so much better than at home, better food ,medicine,doctors, clean living quarters, Etc.
