I believe Citizen was being sarcastic. Somehow I don't think this 'hate' legislation is going to include protecting Christians from hate crimes/articles/speeches/whatever (because that would be defended as 'freedom of speech'). But it certainly lends organizations like CAIR the chance to shut down sites like this one.

Atta played it smart (cant believe I used that word in connection with him but..) for what he was setting out to do, he couldnt tell the passengers what they were really up to or none of those planes would have hit a building....they would have all ended up in a field.

However...this tactic will never work again, if a group of muslims were to take over a plane,they would have a bloody fight on their hands from the other passengers, no one would believe "keep quiet and you will be OK" anymore.

I doubt a group of muslims would be able to take over a plane now...I have flown only 2 times since 9-11, once no arabs on the plane and last time in march on our way to vegas, 2 of them...also on board were a group of college football players going for their break...the plane was rather empty and these guys (10 of them) moved after take off so they were sitting around the arab guys...they made it quite clear in not so many words that if anything funny started these 2 guys would be picking up their teeth on the way out...people are instantly suspicious of muslims on a plane now....did everyone see the shoebombers face when they took him into custody..he looked like each passenger got to punch him a few times

It seems most evil movements have one thing in common, their members are misfits trying to show the world they can take revenge for their nerdity. It's like "Revenge of the Nerds" on the most evil of scales. Look at the 19 hijackers and their "spiritual leader" Bin Laden. He was the shy kid who wanted to prove how tough he was. Mohammad Atta was the shy, aimless rich Egyptian, son of an attorney who's sister was surpassing him in professional success. Ziad Jarrah was the Muslim kid who's parent's sent him to a Catholic school to keep him away from the radicals only to have him caught in a tug of war between a western lifestyle (the frosted hair, hanging out in bars, listening to rock music) and the ways of some of his non-western Wahabist friends.

You could say the same for the Nazis, Hitler the Austrian in the crowd of Germans wondering if he had any Jewish ancestors, the other Nazi dabbling into New Age and trying to hide their homosexual/bisexual experiences in the tough maucho world of the Third Reich. The list goes on and on from Pol Pot the wealthy Cambodian slaughtering people and all expressions of education and signs of the western world to the likes of the Columbine killers and Ted Kacinzski (sp?)

My point is that I think while some worry about immigrants that might be terrorists because they are in visible positions as cabbies, bus boys, parking lot attendants, etc. What really worries me are the rich,angry, loner intellectuals (Bin Laden) the person caught in two worlds (Ziad Jarrah) and the American converts hanging out at radical mosques (American Taliban & Adam Gadahn)

A top Muslim official has denounced what he called the extensive backwardness of the Islamic world.

Abdelwahed Belkeziz - Secretary General of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) - made the stinging attack at meeting in Turkey.

He blamed the rise of Muslim extremism on the feeling of "powerlessness" felt by members of the Islamic world.

Mr Belkeziz told the foreign ministers from the 57-member Islamic states that their countries had a poor record on issues ranging from education and health to economic development.

"The aggregate gross domestic product of all our member states remains lower than that of one single advanced country such as France or Britain," he said.

The Moroccan secretary general concentrated on the failures of the Islamic umma or community. There was, he said, a sharp contrast between its present and past.

We must fight this extremism resolutely and determinedly at a time when we are working to correct the tainted image of Islam in the world

I have met a handful of Muslims, mainly at college campuses. For the most part they have seemed very moderate, even secular. I have worked for Iranians before, but I'm not sure if they were Muslim or some other denomination. This was years ago before 9/11 and the subject of religion just never came up.

There are no Muslims that I know of anywhere near my neighborhood, and from what I know of them, they do congregate in certain areas of the United States. By all accounts there are large populations of the 7+ million in the USA in Arizona and in Detroit, Michigan.

So, yes, I would assume that they stick to themselves -- and from all I know of their culture, I would not expect that to ever change.

Arab Christians seem to be quite different. They are friendly, they mix with Westerners and Americans in social groups and they almost all seem to have one thing in common: they have contempt for Middle Eastern Muslims. I asked why that was once, and the stories I got were enough to make me understand.

It is also quite clear why the Arab Christians prefer to live in the United States.

Just one more sign that the PC left wants to obliterate the First Amendment.

And no, the followers of Islam are NOT better than the rest of the world nor are they more deserving of special rights than anyone else.

I gave it to someone who wanted to know, why, if Islam is a religion of peace, do you constantly read about new Islamic terror attacks? I urge you all to follow my example. We have to inform people. I do think it is very important not to generalize about Muslims in the US. As some of the comments here point out, Muslims in the US vary considerably in character and religious 'fevor' depending on nationality, culture and socio-economic background. But in the US, as we all know, there are very well funded 'groups' focused on promoting radical activities against Israel, against the US, and most of all, on protecting Jihadis and potential Jihadis from discovery and prosecution (and there are many aspects to this Jihad). On the one hand, we must guard against hatred of 'Muslims' per se and damaging stereotypes, on the other hand, we should blow the cover off these Jihadis and closet Jihadis will legislation, police activities, and social and economic pressure with everything we have...And, when it doubt, throw it out...the stakes are too high. Even on the assumption that North America has the oil in the ground to meet demand it takes time to drill and refine. And, in the meantime, what happens to the oil in Saudi? On stream or off? Or does one know? And in whose hands? If the oil is under the control of the House of Saud or al Qaeda they still have the trump card, because they can alter the price on the marketplace.

You're right. The high price of oil makes North American oil production more likely. But the high prices must be sustained to make investment likely. And how can one ensure that? What if al Qaeda is the 'group' that has the say on the price?

North American oil is only our savior on the assumption that we can say what Saudi oil production does. We have not definitive control right now, but we do have a cooperative partner. If that changes, we are in trouble any way you look at it.

I'd have to second the observation that Muslims in America are a varied group. The first bunch that ever organized a mosque of which anyone ever heard came in the 19th century--a group of Polish Tatars who supported the Poles against the Russians, and paid the price. They seem to have gotten absorbed into the general population somewhere along the line. There are also people with names like Mansur, Hassan, etc. in a lot of NE cities who are for all intents WASP (White Anglo-Saxon Protestant) or Irish Catholic. Then we have the CAIR types, whose chief Hooper wants to out-Saudi the Saudis.

Annan attacks US over international criminal court

UNITED NATIONS - UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan rebuked the United States for trying to get another exemption from prosecution by the new International Criminal Court and urged the Security Council to oppose the measure.

He is expected to press his case at a lunch with council ambassadors on Friday. And next week more than 40 nations are scheduled to debate the measure in a public meeting, at which US abuse of prisoners in Iraq and Afghanistan is bound to be mentioned.

"The blanket exemption is wrong. It is of dubious judicial value and I don't think it should be encouraged by the council," Annan told reporters on Thursday.
