Cameron Brown -- who used to go out with Adel Jubeir (which I am reminded of every time I see her) -- described the fact that Al-Muqrin had been releated "for good behavior." The words were shown, highlighted, on the screen. Now why, I wonder, did they not add that the "good behavior" was demonstrated by his having "memorized the entire Qur'an"? Too obvious to mention to the vastly over-informed American public? Might confuse them? What?

Questions abound.
1) How will anyone REALLY know the guy they killed was al-Moqrin? Would it not be beneficial to the authorities to just kill some anonymous thug and claim it was the big guy.
2) How did they find him so soon after the murder? One note suggests they were spotted ditching the body, which is plausible. Another suggests the authorities had somebody 'inside' who turned to the authorities believing things went to far and would become counterproductive to the 'cause'.
3) How did two of them manage to escape? Same way as during the big attack a week or two ago - 'inside' help?
4) Supposedly one of them got caught alive. For now. Wonder if he'll get the dog collar and panties on the head treatment.

To who all who misconstrued my facetious comment on the "US hostage beheaded thread", Daniel Pipes has repeatedly said that people in Western countries will not wake up to the threat of Islamic radicalism until they have been "educated by murder". My comment was a facetious, somewhat scornful, somewhat condescending remark on the inability of Americans to comprehend the threat of Islamic radicalism. I hope that, after this murder, more Americans will wake up to this threat (however, I am not holding my breath). It never fails to amaze me that no matter how many Americans are murdered that organizations like CAIR and Muslims in general are allowed to get away with ideological murder, if not actual murder.

Once again, to all, my intent was not to offend.

The Ka'aba in Mecca is not the only such holy stone. There are several other similar black rocks in Arabia. They pre-date Islam, and were worshipped in the time of Jahiliyya. I don't know if they are similar to one another in size, or whether Mecca was chosen to be the spot where the fathers of Islam decided to place its origins (on the possible non-Hijazi origins of Islam, see P. Crone and the various anthologies on the Qur'an edited by Ibn Warraq).

Some suggested, in their rage after the major attacks on 9/11/2001 (adding the year mitigates the triteness of referring to it as "9/11"), that some sort of retaliatory attack be launched on Mecca. That would be unwise. But a steady whittling away at the roads into and out of Mecca ("This way to the egress" as P. T. Barnum said) might be appropriate targets. Imagine if, after a major terrorist attack, it were decided that a certain segment of the circle around Mecca were to be rendered, not permanently but for a long time, impassible. And then another segment, and then another. It would become harder and harder for Muslims to perform the hajj as the available paths into Mecca shrunk in number, just as the behavior of Muslims has already made it harder, and more expensive, and more unpleasant and fraught with anxiety, the ability of non-Muslims not to conduct an extraordinary pilgrimage (though of course trips to the Holy Land are now scarier because of the relentless Arab Jihad against Israel, with its attendant bombs in buses and so on), but merely to lead their ordinary lives (sitting in cafes, taking the subway to and from work, taking a plane trip anywhere, working in a high-rise office building).

How long could such a path or road or entry into Mecca be rendered difficult of passage? One doesn't know (I'm not a rocket scientist) but the half-life of Strontium 90 is 47.7 years.

Call me crazy, but it seems to me a good start would be the tit for tat strategy: Christians are not allowed to worship in Saudi Arabia -- Muslims are not allowed to worship in the United States.

The Saudi's couldn't find this innocent victim for 3 days. Yet, unbelievably, they do find his murderer and kill him within hours of the inhuman, brutal killing of this poor man. I have serious doubts that al-Moqrin, the killer of Mr. Johnson, is really dead. That just seems too convenient. Then, no more questions have to be answered. He evaded a massive manhunt and just happened to be found when disposing of Mr. Johnson's body? I don't think so...Something that may or may not be related to this whole mess...the Washington Times reporter, Bill Gertz, commented that most of the FBI agents in Saudi Arabia are Muslim-Americans and that they enjoy good working relationships with their Saudi counterparts in the intelligence field. Gertz usually has good inside information so I assume that statement is true. I wonder just how good that relationship between the Muslim FBI agents and the Saudi forces? Remember last year when an incident occured in which a American Muslim FBI agent refused to be wired to investigate a Muslim suspect. The agent said something about one Muslim not doing that sort of thing to another Muslim. Just how intensive was the FBI/Saudi search for this al-Moqrin guy or is that sort of hunt just not done in polite Muslim circles? One more thing...I just saw the photos of poor Mr. Johnson after his beheading. Is it any wonder that the Saudis who did this evil deed had no scruples about doing this sort of act? It's good that Al-Moqrin is dead so at least there is a measure of justice for Mr Johnson. Here's the AP report on the tip that lead Saudi authorities to the terrorists, this sounds plausible to me.

Not that I have a bloodlust or feel like sinking to the same level, but....It would seem to me that if the Saudi's had any balls, they'd take all the Al Qaeda prisoners they're holding (that had been demanded by the murderers to be set free) out into the public square and tell Al-Arabia TV that because the American was killed, the prisoners would all be killed now instead of being freed in good time (for things like memorizing the Quran). Don't hold your breath. But wouldn't it be nice if negative things happened to the intentions of the terrorists instead of otherwise.

Not all Americans are asleep at the wheel here. All my liberal friends, especially those working in the academic world almost hate to see me coming and are almost afraid to bring up the subject of Islam with me these days, because they know they'll get an earful. Nothing makes for an early riser more than the worry that the greater world will not wake up in time. The poster above (one "Truman") apparently is unaware that the American government, if it is as he suggests an "imperialist" power, bent on "controlling others" for their resources out of its astounding greed, is certainly doing a poor job of it. Why, it hasn't seized any Iraqi oil -- and you know, it apparently isn't going to. And it is not going to get a special below-market price for that oil either -- the Americans will have to pay exactly what the French or the Russians will pay for Iraqi oil, and that was always understood. There was no "war for oil." The phrase is idiotic, and when those who confidently assert it are cross-questioned as to what, exactly, they mean by the phrase (will the U.S. get free oil? will it get a special low price? What?), they collapse into indignant stuttering and quickly leave the room or change the subject.

Had the war in Iraq been a "war for oil," instead of forthrightly seizing the resources of Iraq (or of Saudi Arabia, which would be much easier to do because the oil-producing region of al-Hasa in the east is very close to the ships that could take the oil; the protecting-the-pipeline problem that so plagues Iraq would be much more manageable in Saudi Arabia), the Americans are spending enormous sums to 1) eliminate a military threat and, not incidentally, a monstrous regime 2) try, out of misplaced idealism, to create a "democracy" in Iraq as part of a Light-Unto-the-Muslim-Nations project.

If the United States were out to seize resources, like Imperial Japan in the 1930s, it could easily seize, in one fell swoop, not only Saudi, but Omani, U.A.E., and Kuwaiti oil, with a handful of marines and airpower. Perhaps, at some point, it should do that, or will have to do that (no one need fear that the oil of Saudi Arabia will "fall into the wrong hands" -- it is already in the wrong hands, just as wrong as, from the Infidel point of view, they can be), because of our ability to seize those Hasa fields. But perhaps the Americans should make clear to themselves, so they are not blackmailed by the current Saudi regime, or any others, that we understand, and they should to, just how easy it would be for their only claim on the world's attention to be taken away from them. (Once seized, the oil could be sold, and its revenues distributed in all sorts of ways -- how about using it to distribute to the poorest countries of Black Africa, or to compensate all victims of Muslim terror (how much to reimburse the U.S. government for the payout to the relatives of the 9/11/2001 attacks), and -- oh, yes, I almost forgot, to reimbruse the entire Western world (even France, even Germany) for the huge security costs involved in surveying potential terrorists, in paying for extra security forces and airport guards and police, in paying for the extra work to monitor Islamic websites, to monitor mosques, to monitor the borders, to pay for lawyers (including those paid to defend the people charged) and judges and court personnel, to pay for new construction to protect embassies and government buildings, to pay for retrofitting airplanes with certain anti-terror devices, to pay for --- well, how many hundreds of billions have already been spent, in the last 3 years alone, because of the threat of Muslim terrorism? And where should we seek recompense, if not from the Muslims with the deep pockets, as the tort lawyers like to say -- oily, but deep.

Maybe we are about to stumble on the answer to the problem of Saudi oil.

The Saudis sit on an enormous share of producible global oil resources, but have no real "commercial" motive to make it available in the right quantities, at the right times:-

- population is too low, and their society "de-incentivised" (a managerial way of putting it).

- if they are to called on to produce significantly more oil (they will be, short or long run) what will they do with the money (don't ask)?

American benevolence has kept the problem off the agenda, up to now: Saudis can be Saudis, and thats ok (up to a point) as long as oil keeps flowing, and the price doesn't get TOO high.

We have all speculated, for a generation, on the trigger price of oil that would get the marines in. Pointlessly, probably, because price could never - realistically - have been the trigger.

But "Regime Change" - well that's different. An Islamist regime (meaning, even more Islamist) sitting on the world's oil pot could not be tolerated, in either hemisphere. If this is to be the next "crisis", Eurabian liberals are going to find themselves sitting right on the hot spot.

I think we need to take a look at the people in our country who have a vested interest in not dealing with the moslem problem. There is obviously some payoff for not closing our borders to illegal immigrants and not drilling for oil in Alaska and becoming self sufficient.

Breen posting the same question all over the internet. I was recently at a blog site called "Angry Arab Forum". Of course, the only people on the site were left wing Americans and Euros (that's all euro's right?) and a few English speaking Arabs.

They were all posting their conspiracy theories about why the US did one thing or the other. The Euros and Americans of course were sympathizing with the writer of the blog and how terrible this whole thing was, you know the "no blood for oil" "not in our names" crowd.

So...I posted a "I am part of the problem, not the solution" test that pretty much asked the same questions.

I think I will go over there now and see if anyone bothered to take the test! :)
