CONRAD, Mont. — Shannen Rossmiller finds early mornings are best for hunting terrorists.When it's 4 a.m. in this one-stoplight prairie town, it's 3 p.m. in, say, Karachi, Pakistan, the sweltering hours just before the evening call to prayer. That's when Rossmiller, while her husband and three children sleep, finds the Internet chat rooms and bulletin boards frequented by radical Muslims and jihad warriors are busiest.
It is when Rossmiller pursues her deadly serious hobby: citizen cyberspy.
Two success stories of "freelance" anti-jihadists:
Spc. Ryan Anderson, National Guardsman: Fort Lewis soldier charged with attempting to aid the enemy. Private citizen Shannen Rossmiller posed as a terrorist on the Internet and lured the 26-year-old soldier into an FBI sting operation. The Army arrested Anderson in February and plans to court-martial him, saying he tried to provide information to the enemy as his unit prepared to deploy to Iraq. Anderson, a Muslim convert, could face the death penalty if convicted.
James Ujaama, former Seattle resident: Thirty-eight-year-old prosecuted for planning to set up a terrorism training camp in Bly, Ore., in 1999. Videotapes provided to the FBI by a self-proclaimed "freelance intelligence agent" in London, Glen Jenvey, played a significant role in the 2002 prosecution. Jenvey infiltrated the Finsbury Park mosque in North London to obtain the tapes, which showed Ujaama sitting alongside radical cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri and talking about jihad. Ujaama pleaded guilty last year and has agreed to testify against Abu Hamza, who was arrested last month in London and is accused of aiding al-Qaida.

That's exactly how we stop the enemy. Just keep doing what you can do. Each person that does that, each person that opens the eyes of another ignorant Westerner, each person that counters hate with logic -- eventually it all becomes the same machine that defeated Nazi Germany.
The difference this time around will be, unfortunately, we will be dealing with a much more unreasonable foe than Communists or Nazis.
(It also doesn't help that half our elected government seems intent on complicating the fight and denying reality.)

This is great! I wish that there were more Americans out there doing what this courageous woman is doing. Right after 9-11 there was much talk of forming a citizens group that "patrolled" their neighborhoods - Patrolled in as much as they were ready for disaster, they got to know their neighbors, took first aid classes, and were very loosely affiliated with their local law enforcement. They would give information to local law enforcement or even FBI and let them deal with it. Anyone out there hear about this? I will try to find the article. I believe that it was posted somewhere on worldnetdaily.com.

Mo, you never read the article, did you? The article is about drawing out terrorist sympathizers like yourself and getting them to share their plans to destroy the country and/or murder Americans. The Orwellian society you speak of isn't even hinted at in this article.

Very cool. What a suprise it would be to the terrorists if normal joe americans started to band together to dismantle and uncover terror cells - and it worked! It seems like it could-from the example of the woman in colorado.
They say fight fire with fire! (I am not advocating terrorism, just uncovering their actions and turning them into the proper authorities!) This would be taking the fight to them at their "cell" level.

Not only will this be a "good" way to win, but it will be the only way to win. The struggle in which we are presently embroiled will not be won on the battle field. These brainwashed extremists will probably move to smaller and softer targets as our security and intelligence infrastructure strengthen the larger and harder targets. That means the war will eventually come down to street level. And a street war means citizen involvement. Internet monitoring, networking, and awarness of suspicious activities will be needed in the days to come. I am new to this, but am going to start right now.

Any religious interpretation that preaches a forced acceptance to the denial of all other religions is a false one. It is true that there were Christians who long ago acted this way towards the Muslim faith during the crusades. We have since acknowledged our error and moved on. You have not.

I viewed the beheading of Mr Johnson this evening. My sympathies to his wife and family. I have been to Israel and have enjoyed my time spent, my encounters with the muslims were that of kind loving people. They are just trying to make a living and raise their children. I truly believe that most Muslims are peaceful and believe in the all mighty. But with any radical fraction, whether it be religious or racial violence is their policy. I believe that greed and power is what the leaders want, not what is greates good for the masses. Just like Adolfe Hitler did, he used terrorist tactics, brain washing and the media on the masses so he was able to ride the world of the Jews. I believe that individuals should have a right to their own beliefs and we should honor that right. I do believe that what happened in the Iraqi prisons was irrehensible and those soldiers who committed the crimes should pay for it. But an innocent man was beheaded for crimes of others is definitely wrong and I believe it was sensationalism on the terrorist part and to warn the muslism population that this to can happen to you. Its a warning. So I wonder what is on their agenda.

I hear you on the hard targets becoming less of an option to terrorists, and soft targets, (see Spain March 11th, Bali Nightclub, Nick Berg, Paul Johnson, etc.) becomming more of an option. Also the fight is not between Military armies - force on force wars - this is a civilian level battle. See Isreal vs. the Palestinies (also read Hamas, Hezbollah, etc.)
The Israelies have adopted (as a whole) a mindset of a civilization at war, if not defending itself at all times.
Americans need to wake up to the reality that this might happen here.
