First of all, I have read that some are considering this... about 1/3 of the BP would comprise the area of modern-day Israel. If this site was called TerroristWatch or some other generic name dealing with the subject, then I would give your diatribe at least a small amount of credit. In regards to the Muslim/Jewish issue, you must realize that muslims (particularly the Saudi variety) believe they are decedents of Ismael, the first (illegitimate?) son of Abraham by Sarah's serving woman Hagar (an Eqyptian). Ismael and mom were thrown out by Abraham after Sarah gave birth to Isaac, a founder of the Isrealite tribes. God told Abraham (?) that it was OK to throw them out because God would make Ismael the founder of 12 tribes (just like he promised for Isaac?).

According to the Talmud, Bible and Koran, God promised that Abraham's decedents would inherent the land of Ca'anan (current day Isreal/Palestine). It's late and my analyst says to get a life, so I'll be brief:
1.)Virtually all true terrorist groups communicate with each other, exchange ifo and resources and personnel.
2.)All terrorist organizations fund themselves or are funded through illegal or covert activities, often having nothing to do with their original objectives.

To expand a little on what others have said about Malaysia: The political system in Malaysia is controlled by the Moslem Malays. Chinese and other non-Malays are essentially shut out of the government. On the other hand, the economic system, i.e. banks, etc. are controlled by the Chinese. The reason for this is simple: unlike the Malays, the Chinese have brains with synapses that actually fire. The Chinese of southeast Asia are often called the "Jews of southeast Asia," and for good reason. The party that was pushing the sharia in those states suffered a big political reverse recently, and is now talking about ways to be "inclusive" toward non-Muslims (to save their political asses?). As if!

But that's only because non-Muslims are still a large voting bloc of 45 percent. If non-Muslims were smaller in number the Islamists wouldn't give a shit about whether or not the mon-Muslims felt "included" in Malaysia.

One of the very richest nations in the world, with zero natural resources, and only 39 years after they lost 100,000 people, massacred during their bid for independence from the "peaceful" Moslems.

The Sinaporeans know what's what, and are very strict in keeping Islam from gaining any sort of influence in their political structures.

Anything taken to its extremes is a bad thing, and Islam is no different from any other religion in that regard, with one exception: to a large degree they're the ones causing problems today.

Nevertheless, the situation is not hopeless. I live in Calgary, a medium-sized Canadian city (pop: 1 mil) and I know lots of highly successful "westernized" Muslims whose interactions with their religion are not that much different than the interactions lots of Catholics and Jews I know have with their religions.

None of them have the slightest interest in jihad or burkas or honor killings or anything of the like. One mid-20's woman I know outright laughed when her parents tried to set her up with an arranged marriage. She's now dating a muslim guy she met through some friends (and her group of friends includes plenty of non-muslims) -- and both families are okay with that.

Islam can and will reform when its followers realize that there is a better way. Many who have come to the Western world already have come to that realization, but there's still a long road ahead to catch the rest.

If there was no Israel the demagogues would find something else, because anything for them is easier than building their own nations or highlighting the corrupt nature of their own regimes. Look at Mullah Omar in Afghanisatan and Saddam in Baghdad, who lived in palaces like kings while their people suffered, starved, and were tortured and murdered by their own governments. It is always easier to kill than to destroy, and always easier for a corrupt leader to point his people's blame at someone else than to fix the problems and shape up themselves.

I think the problem you are having here is that to some extent, Saladin is right. Muslims don't cause all the terrorism in the world, and yes, they contributed mightily to the our current knowledge. Many of the Greek classics, not to mention classics in other languages, would have been lost were it not for the Muslim culture. You may insist that the Arabs were merely copying, but the world needs all kinds, and if your talent is preserving the ides of others, so be it, glad to have you. Before you object, send a protest letter to the editors of the Encyclopedia Britannica. I am not blind however, and events at Bamian reveal a shift in these historic intentions, to put it mildly.
I think Doug and BooPear have the right idea to some extent. A knee-jerk hatred of Islam is not the answer. Remember, we are the good guys. We may be the only nation in history to actually follow the Geneva Conventions, but that doesn't mean we should stop. Taking the high road is never easy, but it shouldn't stop us from doing it. Radical Islam is a problem. Islam as a whole doesn't have to be, but reacting like oikonomakis isn't going to solve the problem. We should be strong, and punish malefactors, but destroying the innocent makes us no better than they. And I would not trade an Islamic hedgemony for a Christian, or a Jewish, or a Hindu, or a Zoroastrian, or a Wiccan, or a secular one, if it means that differences of opinion will be militarily dealt with.
Support the destruction of terrorism, and even of terrorists, but fight against the impulse to "kill them all, and let God know his own." Remember, the man who said that claimed to be a Christian. American values should prevail, but only if we remember them. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness--may they, and our "shining city on a hill" never disappear from the Earth.

This is an ineffective argument against radical Islamics. They'll look at it and say "as it should be". I'm rapidly approaching the stance that says the only thing they'll listen to is violence. Show strength and they will back down. Say they hijack a plane and demand the release of 200 jihadi prisoners. Line up the 200 on the tarmac and start shooting them 10 at a time until none are left standing. As one of maybe 40 hostages on a plane I think I'd be willing to trade my life to know that 200 or so nut jobs was being put to an end with me.

Is this "justice"? Not even close. But it might make the next people who plan to take hostages as a means of obtaining the release of a group of their cohorts think twice about it.

I feel terrible for the average Muslim. They don't have it easy. But they need to stand up and speak against this insanity. I want to believe the radicals are the minority. I want to believe there is room for all faiths in the world (and even the lack of faith). I just keep waiting for this majority of sane Muslims to stand up and say "we do not agree with the radicals".

Sephardic Jews are Spanish/Southern European/North African Jews. They were originally Spanish, but went to parts of S. Europe and N. Africa after the Reconquista/Inquisition.

Mizrahi Jews are from the MidEast and some parts of N. Africa. They sometimes lived near Sephardic communities, but have different traditions, as they had lived in N. Africa/MidEast uninterrupted (until 1948).
