"It's the Jews, stupid"

Naked anti-Semitism and hatred at Berkeley, in the name, of course, of justice and peace. From the East Bay Express, with thanks to Jeffrey Imm:

On the day after September 11, Micki Weinberg walked to the UC Berkeley campus still in shock. At the entrance to campus, facing Telegraph Avenue, huge sheets of blank paper were spread out as an impromptu memorial on which students, faculty, and other passersby were invited to write comments. Glad to have found such a forum, Weinberg scanned the inscriptions. Then he saw one, large and clear, that stopped him dead in his tracks:

"It's the Jews, stupid."

The slender Weinberg, a year younger than most freshmen, had only just arrived at Cal from Beverly Hills, where he had been president of his high school's Shalom Club. As a young teenager, he had savored heady stories of how Mario Savio and his comrades in the Free Speech Movement danced the hora and sang "Hava Nagila" at sit-ins and peace rallies forty years ago. The son of left-wing, Jewish intellectuals, Weinberg viewed himself as one too, having spent the summer before his senior year of high school in Myanmar, cataloguing the archives of Rangoon's disintegrating and depopulated Jewish synagogue. "That's why I came to Berkeley -- because of its strong romantic aura of the Free Speech Movement and Mario Savio," he recalls. "Then I got here and discovered that that light seems to have been extinguished. You have this vitriol. You feel it everywhere. Berkeley is now the epicenter of real hatred."

Almost three years later, Weinberg graduates this month as a student whose days at Cal were marked by what he calls "pinnacles of horror," in the pinched tone of a man betrayed. He remembers pro-Palestinian protesters insisting that Israeli border crossings are as bad as Nazi death camps. He remembers the glass front door of Berkeley's Hillel building -- where he attends Friday night services -- shattered by a cinderblock, with the message FUCK JEWS scrawled nearby. He remembers the spray-painted swastikas discovered one Monday morning last September on the walls of four lecture rooms in LeConte Hall accompanied by the chilling bilingual message, "Die, Juden. "

In recent years the international press has documented the resurgence of anti-Semitism around the world. Jewish schoolkids have been attacked by epithet-shouting gangs in Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, France, and Brazil. Synagogues have been destroyed in Marseille and Istanbul; a Jewish school was firebombed this spring in Montreal; "Death to the Jews" was shouted through bullhorns outside a temple in South Africa. AP ran photos last month of a Jewish graveyard in eastern France where a hundred tombstones had been spray-painted with blood-red swastikas and the Nazi slogan Juden Raus: "Jews out." The Chicago Sun-Times and the British Guardian report that a ubiquitous chant at European soccer matches -- leveled at London and Rotterdam teams perceived as having Jewish roots -- is "Hamas, Hamas, Jews to the gas."

Such anti-Semitism has always seemed the sinister province of fascists and neo-Nazis, Spanish Inquisitors and tattooed skinheads. How topsy-turvy, then, to discover that some of the most virulent anti-Semitism in America today seethes amid the multicultural ferment of American college campuses. And at UC Berkeley, which owes as much of its allure to radical rhetoric as to academic excellence, it thrives.

Read the whole harrowing thing.

I think what is happening at Berkeley is an immigration horror story. You have the Berkeley hard Left and Muslims as a bloc, a slim cadre of "regular Americans" -- the natural constituency for moderate American values -- in the middle, and then a huge mass of Asians and other immigrants and foreign students who are just passing through on their way to economic success.

I live close to BEZERKELEY and have long been fed up with the numb skulled faculty and self-important vacuum brained sleaze most students there are! Nothing - but NOTHING, surprises me about that Hell Hole of despotic PURE INSANITY! I deeply resent having my CA state taxes support that Baccanalic excuse for a school spewing hatred and immorality of the worst caliber!

Monitor carefully the sullabi, and the lectures, and above all the papers assigned, and the exam questions, and the grading, in all aspects of the Middle Eastern programs (including the teaching of languages). If they are found to be politicized, fire those without tenure, and put pressure, through incessant warnings and budget cuts, that such propagandizing will not be tolerated. There are ways to get people not to change their beliefs, but to behave.

Make sure that Veterans' Preferences in the hiring of faculty becomes part of State Law. If Veterans, including Reservists and National Guard people who have served in Iraq (and there is nothing like serving in Iraq to make one wary of Islam, and of Muslims), are favored, the university administration is going to be eager, as its own take will depend on it, to increase the number of veterans (regular army, reservists, National Guard with service in Iraq and Afghanistan), on the faculty.

Make sure that there is a concerted effort to identfiy specific grouops and to make sure that those groups are fully informed about the historic behavior of Islam toward them. For the Chinese-Americans, the Jihads in western China, the massacre of 600,000 ethnic Chinese by Muslim Indonesians, the "Bumiputra" system, which is nothing but an updated jizyah, imposed on Chinese and Hindus in Malaysia (they are forced to hire Muslim Malays as full partners for any economic venture), the reason the Chinese of Singapore have special laws carefully regulating Muslims and the mosques, and so on.

Identify the Armenians of Fresno and Sausalito, and make sure that they have been fully informed about the Muslim (not merely the "Turkish") massacres that began long before that of 19156, and that involved other Muslims, especially Kurds, against the "giavours" or Infidel Armenians. The account by Frederick Greene, an anthology of eyewitness testimony about the massacres of 1894-1895, is especialy good.

In other words, bring up the history of Islamic aggression against all non-Muslims, wherever Islam triumphed.

It can be done, if enough people pay attention to the matter, thoroughly inform themselves, and begin to repeat, again and again, certain unpleasant truths about Islam.

There are ways to turn even Berkeley around. Where are the trustees? Where is the great Ward Connerly? Not everyone in Hollywood is a fool like Barbara Streisand or Alex Baldwin -- where are the rest of you, and why won't you help in the counter-Jihad?

It is so frightening to think that all the progress we made toward tolerance and acceptance in the '60's has turned into such a vile display of ignorance and cowardice in 2004. "When will we ever learn? Oh, when will we ever learn?"

Thanks Hugh, I do monitor what is passed out in school. Unfortunately that was last year, before Jihad Watch, and before I realized there were support groups like FFI, ISIS, AOI, and others. I will report this fall and next winter since I will be taking another class that deals with the modern age. I'll be your inside spy.

Historicly, religion has been resposable for more death and suffuring withing the societies of all countries than any and all natural desasters famin or desease combined.
This is because those who promote organized religon of any faith are in short just greedy political con men in disguise. They where a robe or a white collar or a yalmulka and claim to know God and that every one must listen to what they say and follow the teachings of this koran or this bible or this tora.
The problem with all organized religions is that no matter what book you may beleive in it is written by men. Men many of whom have profited greatly from conning the ignorant and unenlightend. Those same "men of God" would cast out stone and even murder some times by the thousands those who don't agree with there writings branding them as infidels or heritics or blastphemers and being such it is not a sin to do so.
When will people realize that the word of GOD is not in wrtings by men of any kind and the place to find GOD is not in a so called house of worship. That these writings and places are the false idols warned of in the ten commandments. That these writings and places exist only to give those con men the contol they need to gain both the power and the wealth they use to further their goals to control everything in the lives, including the death of those who mistakenly beleive their often threatening rhetoric.
These are men of such greed that more often than not they put the church's and or religions importantace over that of GOD and the people it is supposed to serve. In doing so GOD'S truth is sacrificed and buried. Sacrificed for the sake of those who through the filthiest politics imaninable have stolen mankinds right to worship GOD where he realy is, deep within our hearts andto feel his will where it is truly written, in our very souls.
Yes Christ is the son of GOD, just as all of us are. While spreading the truth that GOD has instilled in all of us, while showing us the way to where GOD truly resides he was murdered. Taken from us because he threatened the power and wealth of those "men of GOD". Men who have and still do profit by keeping that truth buried. The truth that we don't need them to be close to GOD. They call themselves preists or imams or rabbi's "Religious leaders" all. They mock our loss by destroying what God has created and sin by claiming to do it in GODS name. They diminish that loss, a loss to all of GODS children, when they claim that one religion is better than the other. Because religion its self is the evil that took our brother and guide from us. The brother and guide who knew the simple truth, that love and respect for all that GOD has created as weel as love and respect for our selves is the only way to be close to GOD.

What happened to political correctness?
Are the responsible parties Muslim?
Will anything be investigated and corrected?
It's a sad day in American education systems that this could happen and be allowed to continue!

Any University that would allow an American hating pig like Hatem Bazian continue lecturing after the trash that came out of his snout on April 10, 2004 should have all funding shut off.

University of California at Jerkeley is much more suitable.

Hugh: Don't forget the Assyrians, either!

While I have great respect for Hugh's grasp of history, I have a thing or two to say about Western China (I am a user of Chinese).

The largest divisions of Muslims in Sinitic Asia are Chinese-using Hui and the various Turkic peoples. The Turkic peoples are concentrated in the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region (XUAR), or Sharki Turkistan. The latter are a colonized people; the former very often see China, Communist or not, as the focus of their patriotism.

Bai Chongxi, a general from scenic Guilin in Guangxi, was a devout Muslim who saw no contradiction between his religion and anti-Communist Chinese patriotism during and after WWII. His son, Pai Hsien-yung, is an important novelist in Taiwan--although I don't think he has ever written on specifically Islamic themes. During the 1950's and '60's the Chiang government in Taiwan accused the Communists of genocide against Chinese Muslims--and with some justification.

Muslims in China, whether Hui or Turkic, have a real grievance. Mao tried to "liberate" them by forcing them to raise pork. I have nothing against pork, and am a Christian, but if people don't want to eat it, they shouldn't be forced to. Even now, it is illegal in Mainland China to give religious instruction to anyone under 18--even of the "love thy neighbor" kind. Towards Christians who practice infant baptism, such an act constitutes "forcing belief", and can be punished.

Finally, the separatist Turkic Uighurs (who are Muslim) of taklamakan.org and the l-uighur list have given space to Buddhist Tibetans and Han (Chinese majority) Christian issues.

As for Berkeley's vaunted "free speech", it doesn't apply to Christians, conservatives, and those who disapprove of homosexuality.

Sorry, Sharkey. Hitler called Christianity a "Jewish poison"; and between himself, the Communists, and the various nationalist and other revolutionary movements that sprang up in the wake of the French Revolution, more people were killed for the wrong ideas or identity than in all the Crusades and Inquisitions of more than a millennium of Christendom combined. Or, do I suppose that since the "scientific" worldview is so obviously true, the things done by its adherents are justified?

Coming to Urumchi from the East, one is struck, I am told, by the cleanliness of the Muslims. No doubt they have a grievance against the Han Chinese. So do the Chechens. Unfortunately, things have come to such a point that whenever, and wherever, Muslims have a grievance, that grievance must be denied, because Islam itself is a threat, and anything that gives Muslims anywhere the sense that they are winning, or can win, anything that plays to Muslim triumphalism, is likely to be of harm to Infidels.

It was no different during the war against the Nazis, or for that matter against the Communists. Churchill and Roosevelt willingly allied with Stalin and the Soviet Union, and were right to do so. During the Cold War, the United States found allies among some regimes that were not exactly models of democracy (including Iran under the Shah, Turkey under quasi-democratic rule punctuated by coups, South Korea under Syngman Rhee, Taiwan under Chiang Kai Shek and his successors, and so on).

The problem is that, because of the nature of Islam, what may start out as a seemingly purely national movement -- as with the highly seculr Chechens -- have all become linked through Al Qaeda and similar groups, with the Jihad world-wide. That is why, awful as the Russian behavior has been, one must swallow and support Russian attempts to maintain control not only of Chechnya, but of the Caucasus that would undoubtedly be subject to fissiparous influences should Chechnya ever become independent.

If one wishes to oppose Chinese imperialism, the place to do it is Tibet. There one's full sympathies can be wholeheartedly engaged, without worrying that one is doing something which might, in the end, inadvertently help to encourage the Jihad elsewhere on the globe. Think of it like fighting the Nazis, or the Communists. Sometimes you simply must take the side of those fighting them, whatever the sins, real and imaginary, of one's allies. In this respect, if we were doing Afghanistan all over again, I would have urged the American government not to have supplied weaponry and money to the Muslim rebels -- above all, no stinger missiles. To the argument that the Afghanistan debacle was necessary to bring down Soviet Communism, I would reply: No, it wasn't. It was collapsing from the weight of its own failures, and Alexander Yakovlev and those akin to him (here there should be sustained applause for Yakovlev, a largely unsung hero of ou rtime)anti-Sovietism), long before Afghanistan had seen the light about Soviet Communism. The only ideology strong enough to work in Afghanistan and Iran, against Islam, one suspects, is something like Marxism-Leninism. It's not a worldwide threat, so I'd let it take root, if those roots have any ability to cause the roots of Islam to shrival and die.

Some of the most implacable foes of Islam among the Iranian refugees in Sweden and elsewhere in Europe are out-and-out Communists. They do not evoke, in me, the horror that they might once have; ndeed, perhaps those who are seeking for a way out of Islam require some other, substitute ideology, equally fierce.

The rule I propose is strict: whatever outcome pleases the forces of Islam, for that very reason, should be opposed. And that includes the one or two examples -- Chechens, Uighurs -- who might cause a little tug on our sympathies. Sorry.

"We must be in power," Ali continued coolly. He rounded up his lecture by promising that "when it's all over, the only one standing is gonna be us."
"Allahu akbar."
"We ain't gonna lose. We must implement Islam as a totality," in which "Allah controls every place -- the home, the classroom, the science lab, the halls of Congress."
The weekend concluded with an evening program called "Muslim Students in the Struggle." A few officers and alumni took turns at the podium; one young man speculated about the day "when we are called upon to rock the West like it's never been rocked before." This is inevitable, he said. "Allah has promised the people that they will inherit this land."

This is war talk and the Americans are taking it lying down and supporting Islamism with their taxes. Every American Muslim should be made to know that when they take the oath of allegiance to the US flag and Constitution, they are practically going against the tenets of Islam that demands their total allegiance (Islam cannot be separated from State)in which case they are liars knowlingly or out of ignorance.

It's getting to the point where you wonder whether sending your kid off to uni is such a good idea afterall. What if they come back a brainwashed lefty loony toons wingnut, burning flags, throwing rocks at cops during protest marches and suddenly hating everything their parents like and stand for? I don't expect my kids to be just like me, but to think clearly & for themselves versus this hateful reactionary crap that many of these uni students seem to be messed up in. They blindly follow some lefty dogma without thinking about it, fawning over people like Chomsky and anybody who hates Jews and America. Screaming, destroying property, denying free speech of opposing views, interrupting speakers, denying access to venues where these opposing opinions are voiced. They're scary. Berzerkely sounds really scary. Is it a place to learn? Or to just foment hatred of various groups? Do they not get enough homework that they have all this time to do that extracurricular political stuff? What sort of degree do these people end up with?

Campuswatch.org has a whole list of Horror stories and sgows the penetration of islamization of our universities. It is extremely distubing stuff.
Millions of dollars of oil revenues have been poured into these centres of indoctrination to brainwash our kids to hate our government and embrase Islam.
Almost every chair of middle east studies must be a centre of Jihad propaganda.
they have cynically exploited the freedom of academic knowledge and liberalism for their propaganda dissemination.

Hugh, I do not love Islam, and I agree with you that Tibet is an important issue (Taiwan's another place to stand up to that vast intellectual colony of 19th century Prussia called China). But I think there's still a case to be said that there are Muslims and Muslims.
