In the 1991 video played in U.S. District Court, Damra implores members of the audience to donate money for the Islamic Committee for Palestine. Damra tells the audience the committee "is the active arm of Palestinian Islamic Jihad in America."Matthew Levitt, senior fellow in terrorism studies at the Washington Institute for Near East Studies, testified that the Palestinian Islamic Jihad is "bent on the destruction of Israel."
Damra has pleaded innocent to a charge of obtaining U.S. citizenship in 1994 by providing false information. If convicted, he could lose his citizenship, be fined $5,000 and be sentenced to up to five years in prison before being deported.
The video showed Damra standing in front of a wall with an American flag on it at the Beit Hanina Club in Cleveland, a social club for Palestinians.
Jurors watched video monitors in front of their seats that had subtitled translation of Damra's speech, which was in Arabic.
Expressionless, Damra watched most of the video on a monitor at a defense table.
On the tape, Damra also introduces Sami Al-Arian as the head of the committee.
Al-Arian, a former University of South Florida professor, has pleaded innocent to federal charges that he financed terrorists. He has been held for 15 months at a Florida prison on charges he used an Islamic think tank and a charity he founded to raise money for the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
The hour-long video included Al-Arian's speech in which he spoke of Palestinians martyrs and describes them as heroes. He shouted into the microphone in Arabic that Muslims in America cannot forget their brothers and sisters in Palestine.
Levitt testified that the Palestinian Islamic Jihad has been listed as a major terrorist group in a U.S. State Department publication titled "Patterns of Global Terrorism" since 1989. He testified that the group opposes peace with Israel and a two-state system.
Levitt said that to reach its goals the group "engages in acts of violence and murder."
On a second video, Damra shouted for contributions for orphans in Palestine.
Levitt began testifying that these donations are raised to recruit people for acts of violence with the understanding that their children will be cared for after their deaths.
Defense attorney Nancy Hollander objected to the statements and Judge James Gwin told jurors to disregard it.

To get real for a minute, we in the USA have something called the Bill of Rights (the first several amendments to our written Constitution) t codify what are supposed to be basic rights for persons living in the USA (including free speech, free exercise of religion), and to it everyone, including Islamicist radicals, appeals. Yet Justice Arthur Goldberg, himself no great curtailer of Civil Liberties or neo-conservative fiend (quite the contrary!) wrote in the 1963 Mendoza case that the Bill of Rights was not a suicide pact--the problem is, you can get over-solicitous for the rights of the accused in a criminal case.
The time will come when that dictum will be applied a too-dangerous and too-well-supported movement to deny liberties to others. I'm sure when the need comes, the UK will find some appropriate measures.

I think the “internal threat” you define is largely composed of reactionaries and deniers, at least that is how I describe them to myself.
I loosely define reactionaries as those against something; in this case a blanket description of “antis.” Anti-war, anti-establishment, anti-involvement types. While this obviously implies liberals, it also includes isolationist conservatives such as Pat Buchanan’s so-called “paleo-cons,” Marxists, communists and others.
Deniers (which can also be reactionaries, and vice versa) feel that there wasn’t enough provocation to justify our level or manner of involvement. This encompasses the “No Blood for Oil” types, anti-war types, apologists, pacifists, and more importantly, many moderates who think we’ve committed too many resources. While not an active threat, their “do nothing” approach alone can threaten our security. Eight years of a president who viewed terrorism as a legal problem is a prime example of this approach.
What can we do about it?
The same thing we are doing. Keep up the pressure, and let the world know we are not going to give in to cowardice and lethargy.
Our internal threat, unfortunately, will be quickly and effectively silenced only when the next major terrorist attack hits our shores.
Once several thousand more people die on the home front here in America, I think the reactionaries and deniers will lose their remaining credibility. Their credibility was severely damaged on 9/11, though they have sought to repair it since. It will crumble like desiccated parchment after the next major internal attack.
Hopefully, the inevitable attack on America will be enough for Britain to react. I’d hate for you to have to experience first hand what we felt here in New York before your country can fully commit to winning. As for America, one day in September apparently wasn’t enough.
Perhaps Hollywood was too far away to feel the heat of bodies burning in jet fuel.
After the next attack, the reactionaries will either they will be silent and brooding, or no one will listen to them when they squeal. The deniers will lose their moderate support and return to their fringe group status.
It is a war of popular opinion that ironically requires us to lose an internal battle in order to win the wider global war.

I think you hit the nail on the head about Hollywood being too far away from feeling the bodies burning. It's all quite sad how some punk kid actor or movie director who couldn't fit in with those around him suddenly becomes the expert on the ways of the world when he becomes rich and famous. These people are like an angry version of "Revenge of the Nerds." The director of the film American Beauty is another example of someone who actually admits he hates middle America and it's values and continues to be both hailed by the elites as a great director and a man that will point out the absurdities of the American lifestyle.
Michael Moore particularly bothers me because he grew up one state away from me. Flint is very much like the town I grew up in and Moore instead of relating to his hometown attacks it by hanging out with the very people that hate middle America. He truly thinks he could hang out in the bars of middle America and thinks his anti-Americanism would be accepted. What might be accepted in Cannes isn't going to play in Peoria and yet he, and his liberal friends, really believe it. Their mantra seems to be if we (America) was just like France the world would like us and respect us.
He doesn't understand that much of Europe doesn't like Europe as evidenced by the recent European elections were Euroskeptic parties did well and turnout was very dismal.

I THOUGHT this set of comments were about the Ohio Jihadi case... they mentioned Al-aryan. I was attending USF, his employer, when he was first suspended... the hippies and Muslim students were UP IN ARMS claiming that the free-speech principle of "Academic Freedom" was being abused, that Al-Aryan was a "thought prisoner" and "guilty by association" and all kinds of crap.
They said there is no good reason to suspend him, but our University President held tough... over a year later the Feds arrested him. Then the Muslim kids really got mad. There's fifty counts of terrorism against him, all based on FBI tapes of his conversations... they were "fingerprinting" taped voices 20 years ago. If just one charge sticks to Al-Aryan, he's going away for life.
Of course his lawyers say HE is the victim, not the hundreds of dead Israelis murdered by Islamic Jihad.
True to form, the prosecution has already botched part of the case... it seems a bunch of papers were "accidently" shredded.
Anyway, get this: when Al-Aryan went to jail pending trial, he went on a "hunger strike." A few months later, when people began to wonder why he was still alive, it was disclosed that was "still drinking water" and "still taking his diabetes medication" and "drinking nutritional drinks."
Nutritional drinks? Like Slim-Fast? You can live on that stuff. Anyone that has ever even know a diabetic knows that they have to eat candy bars and drink orange juice.... some hunger strike, eh? That's not a hunger strike, I call that "a diet." Which explains why he'd only lost about twenty pounds after two months (or thereabouts, as I recall.)
But, OH! THE HORROR to the Muslim apologists and the "Peace and Justice" crowd. For a while, Al-Aryan called himself a "prophet" so maybe he was going crazy(-er) from malnutrition.
His trial is going to be here in Tampa, I think it starts in January. I hope the prosecutors will use as witnesses, victims from Israel that survived and/or were maimed or had loved ones killed by his buddies in Islamic Jihad in "palestine".

To say I am right wing shows how left wing you are. As I have repeatedly told you, I am a proud conservative Democrat. I worked on Capitol Hill for a Democrat in the 1990's. I have been back in my hometown, a blue collar town very similar to Michael Moore's Flint, for ten years. That's why this is so ridiculous. If you grow up in a place like I did you would know why Democrats, Repulicans and Independents think Moore is a Hollywood flake.
I don't think it's off topic at all. We have a good exchange of views where I am from about the War In Iraq, the War on Terror etc but I think you will find that these salt of the earth see through Moore's game. This type of propaganda has everything to do with the War On Terror because it's all about trying to make America feel like we deserve what we get from the jihadists and their sympathizers. This is the battered wife syndrome on a political level.
I know all about corporate greed. You wouldn't have wanted to work the jobs I did in college and the summers in between. Back on-topic, now. Donations for Orphans? Most likely, that money would go to the Immams who would raise those kids (whose parents blew themselves straight to Hell) in the same fashion. If I were the people living in that area (Ohio), I'd donate to organizations that will help uplift the whole region. With luck some of these Somalis would see their own 'boat' rising and decide to side with us. With luck, that is.

Corporate greed has not ruined your blue collar town. It is about the business environment that dictates where and what jobs go. The working class, be it blue collar or white collar has to adapt to changes in the busines climate to survive. America has remained strong and sustained a great working force well over the past half century.
The Capitalist system cannot guarantee a permanent income to everyone as you might suggest, such as was the theory under socialism and communism.

Cheese producer targets Europe
Americans have been eating Jarlsberg cheese from Norway for 40 years, and it's even been made "over there" lately as well. Now the popular Norwegian cheese makers are targeting the European market.
Starting next year, Jarlsberg cheese will be produced in Ireland, for sale throughout Europe beginning in the fall of 2005.
Norwegian dairy cooperative Tine opened its first overseas production in Ohio in 2000. The plant there serves most of the US market, while Norwegian-made Jarlsberg is exported to the tune of 16,200 tons annually.
That's more than five times the amount of Jarlsberg consumed within Norway, and exports represent the key to growth.

Same Judge OK'ed Muslim Prayer
The same San Francisco federal judge who just overturned a federal law banning partial-birth abortions also approved of Muslim prayer in schools when federal rulings ban all other denominational prayers and activities.
In a December 2003 decision, U.S. District Judge Phyllis Hamilton decided that it was lawful for a California middle school teacher to require students to recite Muslim prayers, get down on their knees and role-play as Muslim adherents.
As part of the class students were told to recite: "In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of Creation, The Compassionate, the Merciful, King of Judgment-day! You alone we worship, and to You alone we pray for help, Guide us to the straight path."
The Byron County 7th-grade world history teacher was sued by the parents of one of the students, who claimed that their child had been coerced to engage in a religious practice.
Hamilton, in a summary judgment, ruled that the teacher's actions were legal.
The teacher prepared a student guide which said that as part of the study of Islam "you and your classmates will become Muslims."
According to court documents, the teacher also read the Koran and Muslim prayers out loud in class and required students to recite lines of Muslim prayers in class as well.
Students also were told to recite Islamic prayers as they exited the class, including the Muslim refrain "In the name of God, most merciful, most gracious."
The teacher also assigned students to fast or give up something like TV for a day to experience Islam's month of Ramadan and one of its pillars of faith.
At the end of their Islamic studies, students also were required to write an essay on Islam. But, but the teacher instructed her students, "BE CAREFUL HERE – If you don't have something positive to say, don't say anything!!!"
In her ruling, Judge Hamilton threw out the parents' case, saying the religious role-playing was not tantamount to the exercise of religion and the school activities were not of a devotional or religious nature.

What a dream that is. In my country if I were to put barbed wire over my gate to stop criminals entering my property; and a criminal were to be injured whilst breaking in to my property then I would be liable for prosecution!! Figure that one out. The British people have few rights of defence left unless you happen to be built like a 6 foot boxer and can single handedly fight of the criminal who may be armed with god knows what kind of weapons. I've heard moderate muslims say that it is the loud minority ( about 30% ) of muslims that are causing all of the trouble in the U.S and other western nations. Unfortunately the 70% majority, who just want to get on with their lives, feel too guilty to stand up to their brethren. This is what I've heard from some American muslims. All i say is tough luck! Get those extremists, GET THEM, GET THEM. They are here in this country and they hate us. I am sorry to the innocent ones who get caught up in the net, but I don't see any Muslim organizations in the U.S doing shit about catching these terrorists; they would just rather sue, and cry racism. Too bad
