A 15-year-old Muslim girl yesterday lost her high court battle for the right to wear strict Islamic dress to school.Shabina Begum has not attended Denbigh high school in Luton since September 2002 when she was sent home for turning up in a jilbab - the full-length gown worn by many Muslim women that covers all of the body except the face and hands.
Shabina's claim that she had been "constructively excluded" from her school was dismissed by Mr Justice Bennett. He said the school's refusal to let her wear the jilbab did not breach her right to education and freedom of religion as laid down in the European convention on human rights.
The school, a 1,000-pupil comprehensive where almost 80% of pupils are Muslim, said it had a flexible uniform policy to ensure that the religious and cultural sensitivities of its students were respected. Girls have the option of wearing trousers, skirts, or a shalwar kameez (trousers and a tunic).

This girl must have been only 13 when all this started and has missed two years of education. At 13 you don't know your own mind and she was no doubt put up to this my her ignorant parents or some nutcase at the local mosque.
I'm very glad indeed that the decision went the way it did. If this girl was allowed to wear a sack, the backward parents of all the other muslim girls would put pressure on their daughters to wear one too. That's why headscarves are banned in schools in Turkey - to give the girls an excuse not to wear it, when they would otherwise be under pressure from their neanderthal male relatives.

But to go to an infidel school and demand that the infidel make accomodation for their filthy customs? Incredible. You know Dase when I arrived on this site I was thinking the same about the American Justice system and that we should follow suite with you lot. We seem to have an inability to prosecute criminals and protect our own culture.

Permitting someone to wear a getup in a public school (no violation of the dress code) is different than a violation of a school uniform code. I don't know the original deal in OK, KS, or ID, so I'm not even sure it's apples and oranges we're comparing. Even then, it's a stretch to say that the schools were conservative. I'm sure you know that academia at any level, are overwhelmingly liberal. It's probably that the conservatives aren't running the schools at all and if they are, that they aren't running these schools in particular. So IF all of those three things are true, then we're dealing with some spineless people.

Not as much as a conundrum as you think, Nik. Muslims want the prosperity and technological advances of the free West, while at the same time want to cling stubbornly to their "superior" Islamic culture.
They don't understand that our prosperity and technological advances are the very real by-products of our freedoms and all the other things they despise about us. What they want are two mutually-exclusive things -- an impossibility.
They may indeed succeed in forcing Britain to become an Islamic society -- but in end, they won't get what they want -- a posperous, peaceful, technologically advanced "Islamic" nation. What they'll get is another Pakistan or Bangladesh -- poor, overcrowded, ridden with violence, honor killings, authoritarianism, corruption and ignorance.
Islam is incompatible with progress, prosperity, freedom and technological advancement. It's a utopian ideology that doesn't deliver on the utopia part, just like Communism.

But, I think what is happening is that a lot of people on the left in Europe have come to realize the threat to their freedom (and women's rights) that fundamentalist Islam presents. They are living the nightmare. We have yet to experience it here. And I think that's the difference.

I have a friend who is a teacher at a predominantly muslim school. Most of the pupils don't concider themselves British. She remarked on the facination these children have with bombs and explosions. Nearly every story they write has terrorist conitations, often explosions and bombings in British shopping centres.
They are being trained to think this way by someone. Local leaders, parents I don't know but this is not normal childrens imaginations.
Open suggestion to Muslims: Following the law of the land you infest will keep you alive, and make you respectable. Stop listening to the psychotic rantings of Mullahs and radical Imams.

Yes I remember, this story reminds me of an incidence that occured sometime ago in a University in Africa.
The muslims as usual said that they've not been allowed to fully practice thier religion fully, and demanded that they want all the muslim females to be wearing hijab.
The issue got to the senate of the University and they asked the lecturer who was supportive of the hijab wearing the following questions.
1. If you support the wearing of Hijab, then wont you support the covering of the whole face as stipulated by the Islamic law for married females?
2. If someone comes to your exam hall with his whole face covered can you distinguish if such person is male or female or is just somebody who wants to impersonate.
Well, to our great surprise the answers the lecturer gave was not convincing to the University's Senate and the law even became stricter, that no human being must cover his face or even wear a mask in the University whether it is for religious purpose or not.
Do you konw one thing about the muslims, as I've said and will continue to say, they are like a pig which you allow to go freely because you consider it as pet, but pigs will always be pigs if you give them a single oppourtunity, they will want more, and if you give them more they will still want more..... and more..... and more...
