Ok, I just got that old sinking feeling in my gut. For some reason Spidey Sense, 6th Sense or whatever that is is not saying: "That's crazy talk."

Part of me wants very much to hope that this is just a tactic, disinformation spread to try and affect our economies. If that is the case, it isn't working (except in the mind of the democrats, who Always see Bad as being 'good' for them).

And if it is not... I don't care if this post gets deleted. If they manage even something as big as 911, they deserve everything they get hit with, anywhere and Everywhere on the planet.

Loads of nuclear stuff went missing after the break up of the Soviet Union. These Islamist fanatics are on par with the Nazis and represent same threat to the World. We must be vigilant and ready to defend ourselves.

This isn't the first time an author has made such a claim. Didn't an author named Bodanski make the same claim about two years ago?He was on msnbc claiming Al Qaeda had two suitcase nukes in the US.The problem is it's never been fully established that suitcase nukes really exist.Another problem is that a nuclear device isn't like your average suicide bomb belt.It's a sophisticated weapon that needs routine care and maintenance. Without proper maintenance you end up with nothing more then a heavy suitcase.

Don't forget - any catastrophic strike means fewer muslims, also. We have the numbers to "bounce back", they don't. The planned "infiltration" of American society comes to a screeching halt, both by virtue of this fact and due to the subsequent backlash.

I have, indeed, been pretty busy with military duties recently. I actually got a day off last weekend, though (first one since Memorial Day).

How much maintenance a nuclear warhead requires depends largely on what type of device it is (either a "gun" type using enriched uranium or a plutonium implosion design). I've never seen enough information on the allegedly "missing" Soviet weapons to know how they were designed. I know that OUR atomic demolition munitions were gun-type devices, primarily because it's a simpler and more rugged design.

In either case, the fissile material itself isn't what needs to be replaced as a result of decay. It's the triggering devices. For example, the old nuclear artillery shells I worked with had neutron generators containing tritium gas that had to be replaced every 5 years or so.

One thing to keep in mind, though, is that we kept ours maintained to about a 99% standard. Terrorists planning a surprise attack against a city don't require the same level of certainty. Al Qaeda would be perfectly happy with warheads that only had a 70 or 80% chance of working when they pushed the button, especially if they had several of them placed in different cities.

(SADM) Devices, Sort of sound like Saddam Devices. I have seen a thing or two about these “suitcase” bombs. I don’t think they would be all that feasible here in the U.S. due to the amount of detection they constantly give off. But still, a scary thought.

I have just finished reading Paul Williams’ book, and if a small portion of what he says is accurate, it is very frightening.

According to Williams:

“The Chechen Mafia purportedly sold 20 nuclear suitcases to representatives of Osama bin Laden. For the weapons, Bin Laden paid $30 million in cash and two tons of heroin (with a street value in excess of $700 million).

In 2002, Al-Majallah published an update claiming that bin Laden had succeeded in obtaining a total of 48 nuclear suitcases from the Russian Mafia over the course of several years. The claim was supported by reports from Israeli intelligence that al Qaeda agents purchased 12 to 15 kilos of uranium-235.”

[While I don’t have any faith in what Al-Majallah may report. I would be willing to rely on Israeli intelligence reports].

Williams continues:

“The nuclear suitcases were originally designed to serve as tactical rather than strategic weapons for use against NATO targets time of war. They were not really suitcases, but suitcase-sized nuclear devices, which could be fired from grenade or rod launchers or detonated in public buildings, shopping malls, arenas or stadiums for sporting events. One weapon placed in the center of a major metropolitan area was capable of instantly killing sever hundred thousand civilians while exposing millions of others lethal gamma rays.

Some of these weapons were smuggled into the United States by Soviet agents and buried at scattered, remote locations. "There is no doubt that the Soviets stored material [including nuclear suitcases] in this country," Curt Weldon (R-PA), chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Military Research and Development, said. "The question is what and where."

In attempting to verify the reports of the buried nukes, director Louis Freeh ordered a team of nuclear technicians to excavate several areas around Brainerd, Minnesota, where Soviet spies were believed to have forward-deployed several suitcases in case war.

Diggings began at additional sites after KGB defector Vas. Mitrokhin, who served as a chief archivist for the agency informed British intelligence that secret stockpiles of tactic nuclear devices were buried in upstate New York, California, Texas, and Minnesota.

Mitrakhin's information was supported by Col. Stanislav Lunev, the highest-ranking military spy to defect from the Soviet Union and the leading confidential source on Russia's nuclear arsenal. .....................The number of weapons buried in the United States and Europe remains anyone's guess. But Soviet scientists produced more than seven hundred nuclear suitcases during the 1960s and 1970s and hundreds more during the 1980s.

[Excuse my black humor, but I have to laugh at the mental picture of “nuclear technicians” skulking around New York, California and Texas digging holes.]

Williams also states that the U.S. developed similar small nukes known as “rucksack bombs”, and in 1966 the DOD made a training film which showed how the weapons could be stuffed into parachutes of commandos and attached to the diving gear of Navy seals or affixed to buildings, bridges and ships.

He states that

“During the 1980s these devices were refined and make smaller. The plutonium and uranium were kept in separate compartments and connected to a triggering mechanism that could be activated by a clock or a call from a cell phone.”

Williams writes that

“in 1998 Alexander Lebed, the former Russian security secretary under Boris Yeltsin, met in a closed-door session with members of the U.S. House of Representatives and admitted that forty nuclear suitcases had disappeared from the Russian arsenal........Lebed said that he was able to confirm the production of 132 suitcases and could account for only 48...............He added that the small nukes would have required two major overhauls in the 20 or so years since they had been manufactured and did not know if such overhauls had been conducted.”

As to the maintenance of the trigger mechanism-issue, this is what Williams has to say,

“....The triggers," which emit large quantities of neutrons at high speeds, would require considerable attention. The triggers decay rapidly and have short "half-lives"-most would become useless in less than four months. The nuclear cores also are subject to decay and over the course of several years would fall below the critical mass threshold. Though the shells that encase the cores are the most durable, they, too, are subject to contamination. Without proper care, the shells, no less than the core, will produce a fizzle rather than a boom. But bin Laden has displayed a keen awareness of the need for technical expertise. Intelligence sources have confirmed that SPETSNAZ officials from the former Soviet Union were on bin Laden's payroll from 1996 to 2001 to maintain and prepare the nuclear suitcases for activation. Moreover, following the invasion of Afghanistan and the loss of his laboratories, bin Laden reportedly sought out and obtained the technical assistance of twelve leading Pakistani scientists, including Dr. Sultan Bashiruddin Mahmood, Dr. Chaudry Abdul Majid, and Dr. Mirza Yusuf Baig.6 On November 25, 2001, Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar assured BBC reporters that the nuclear destruction of the United States was well underway: "The plan is going ahead and, God willing, it is being implemented. But it is a huge task, which is beyond the will and comprehension of human beings. If God's help is with us, this will happen within a short period of time; keep in mind this prediction."

The next attack, according to al Qaeda defectors and informants, will take place simultaneously at various locations throughout the country. Terrorist cells have been established in major American cities, including New York, Miami, Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Detroit, and Washington, DC. Intelligence sources estimate that as many as five thousand sleeper agents from al Qaeda training camps have made their way into the country.”

I guess simultaneous attacks are not so farfetched when you remember the plans for the Bojinka plot using Casio digital watches as timing devices.

I just wanted to pass on this little bit of info from the book. I would appreciate any comments on what Paul Williams has to say by any of you out there who are knowledgeable about these matters. I hope he is wrong, because if he is not, it is pretty sobering.

It is imperative that the west develop its energy policies as soon as possible to reduce or eliminate its dependence on Muslim oil.

So long as the west continues to fill the coffers of radical morality deprived Islamic nations and their Komic book KORAN we shall continue to fund their subversive and soulless endeavors.

I haven't "come around" per se. I feel that talk is preferable to violence if possible. I also feel that should violence be called for, in most cases it should be overwhelming and precise. WMDs change that equation.

Every attack against us including 9/11 has been carried out with “conventional” weapons. Airliners, while non-standard, are conventional as guided missiles with aviation fuel as the explosive. They have not deviated from “conventional” weapons up to this point.

Should Islamic extremists unleash radiological, chemical, or biological weapons, it raises the stakes immensely, and changes the rules of engagement.

At this point, we are (as western societies) only willing to engage in a highly limited war, with very restrictive rules of engagement. Large segments of our general populations don’t even believe we should be involved in combat operations in certain theaters. Only a very small minority of our populations are for expanding the rules of engagement.

That changes the second a WMD is deployed by Islamists. The only question is how much the rules will change. That may depend on the scale of the attack. What do I think might happen?

A chlorine gas attack by Islamic terrorists on a major population center would wound or kill tens if not hundreds of thousands. Think of what happened in Bhopal, India in 1984, with 10,000 dead and 200,000 injured. What would that do to public opinion? How much sympathy do you think there would be for the average Muslim, or the average Muslim-looking citizen? Little or none. Public opinion would cry for interment camps and mass deportation. Vigilante violence would occur on a wide scale. A few Muslim enclaves would burn, but most Muslims would survive, protected by reluctant governments, and they would be deported later.

Ratchet up the death toll with the use of nuclear weapons, and all bets are off. If Jihadis use nuclear weapons on multiple cities, hundreds of thousands, if not millions will die. Hundreds of millions of Muslims will die before the thirst for revenge will be sated should this come to pass.

Internally, summary executions of Muslim civilians in the street would probably occur with little law enforcement interference. Mosques and Islamic centers will be razed. Homes and businesses will burn. There will be few safe havens for Muslims. The hate will simply be too great. As a culture within the attacked country, Islam will be utterly destroyed.

The Middle East itself, no longer defensible by socialists and others, become a massive free-fire zone with unrestricted weapons. The final destruction of Islam will be swift, and perhaps total. Several Islamic capitals will be destroyed by submarine-launched, nuclear cruise missiles. Islamic nuclear sites, including “friendly” Pakistani sites, will be leveled. Mecca and Medina will disappear in a blinding flash.

Islam will be decapitated in less than 90 minutes form the time the order to fire is given.

Those that survive the blasts will be forced to convert. Those that won’t convert will be eliminated. Islam will be no more.

As to Al-Qaida making a tactical strike, I can assure you it would be a HUGE mistake. I used to have a friend who worked as a missle targeter years ago in a lead shielded basement. Should they try to pull this one off, it will be the last thing they will ever do. And, since 9-11, I have no doubts that Mecca is targeted and will be the first thing to go.

Funny, in light of the information in this article, that thought doesn't bother me very much.

Regretable as the loss of life will be, I'm actually hoping that it happens because it'll wake up alot of people and, I believe, tip the scales against muslims everywhere to the extent that people will equate Islam with Nazism, Stalism, Fascism, etc.

Such an event won't mark the end of Western Civilization. No. Western Civilization will recover. But it will certainly toll the beginning of the end of Islam.

And it will get real ugly and really messy pretty quick. But, in the end, the world will be a better place after the scourge of Islam has been eradicated.
