BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- Militants kidnapped a senior Egyptian diplomat as he left a mosque Friday and demanded his country abandon any plans to send security experts to support Iraq's new government, according to a video broadcast on the Al-Jazeera television station....The abduction of the diplomat threatened to undermine efforts of Prime Minister Iyad Allawi, who met with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Thursday to persuade Arab and Muslim countries to provide troops to protect the U.N. mission in Iraq.
A separate militant group holding seven foreign truck drivers, including one Egyptian, announced a new set of demands in a new video, insisting that their Kuwaiti employer pay compensation to those killed by U.S. forces in the city of Fallujah. They have threatened to begin beheading the hostages starting Saturday.
The practice of beheading hostages has stirred opposition in Iraq, with radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, who led a two-month uprising against U.S. forces beginning in April, joining the criticism Friday.
"We condemn what some people are doing regarding the beheading of prisoners and it is illegal according to Islamic law," al-Sadr said at the Kufa mosque south of Baghdad, where he led Friday prayers. "Anybody doing this is a criminal and we will punish him according to Islamic law."
No word on what Al-Sadr makes of Suras 8:12 and 47:4.

The Americans only have 140,000 combat troops? I seriously doubt that. Probably more like 1,400,000 combat troops, and if necessary they could always call for more voulenteers or implement the draft. It is also interesting that it only takes 140,000 American troops to defeat an army of over a million “believers”. Expect Mubarak to counter offer that 100 muslim brothers currently being held in Egyptian prisons will be summarily executed if the Egyptian Official is not released by a certain deadline. After that, another 100 per day will meet the same fate until he is released.
If they still execute the diplomat, I expect Mubarak to empty entire prisons by way of summary execution.
Again.. Hosni Mubarak did not get to be leader of that country AND maintain hold on his power there without knowing how to play some very serious hardball..

Creating stability in Iraq and certinly squashing the terrorist network is primarly the responsibility of the United States forces, not some 51 non-combat pinoy's or 900 Spainard troops.
We have tried to construct a civilian police force but it is showing to be too infatuated with the jihadist or just too timid period. We also know there is known terrorist cells and networks in places like Fahllujah and decide not to take them out out of fear of local public opinion. Not to mention that arrest warrent for Al Sadr which we refuse to execute.
