A welcome announcement from Cpl. Wassef Ali Hassoun. From AP:
QUANTICO, Va. - Cpl. Wassef Ali Hassoun, the Marine who disappeared under mysterious circumstances while on duty in Iraq, insisted on Monday that he was captured by enemy forces and that he is still a loyal Marine."I did not desert my post," he told reporters outside Quantico Marine Corps Base. "I was captured and held against my will by anti-coalition forces for 19 days. This was a very difficult and challenging time for me."
He did not answer any questions during his brief appearance. He was joined by his brother, who arrived from Utah.
"I would like to tell all the Marines as well as all those others serving in Iraq to keep their heads up and spirits high. Once a Marine, always a Marine, Semper Fi," Hassoun said, invoking the Marine Corps motto, Latin for "always faithful."
I hope he will eventually explain why his family thought it necessary to explain to the Muslim world that he joined the Marines out of necessity — strongly suggesting that he did not hold to Marine principles and was not motivated by a sense of patriotic duty.
"Once a Marine, always a Marine, Semper Fi"? Not so fast, buster. Youth Wants to Know exactly why, when in Iraq you slipped away unobserved from your post, and those fellow Marines to whom you now wish to publicly offer your simpering and suspect expression of "Semper Fi" (not to mention this equally preposterous "keep your heads up and spirits high" stuff), did you happen to have all of your personal gear with you? That would have had to take a certain amount of, shall we say, advance planning?
One wonders what will happen when these newfound sentiments of loyalty not only to one's putatively fellow Marines, but also expressions of full support for the American intervention in Iraq, reach Tripoli, in northern Lebanon, where family members live. Possibly nothing at all, merely an unstated quiet understanding that Wassef Ali Hassoun had to engage in such prevarication (which in a culture of taqiyya and kitman comes naturally) in order not only to escape punishment for desertion but, even more boldly, to present himself as a brave and unswervingly loyal Marine who deserves full reinstatement both into the Corps and American society. Fat chance.

Regarding this uhhmmm... Marine. I'm wondering whether or not his intention was to give his muslim brothers access to his military identification papers so they could work on replicating his documents (the Iraqis are world-class document and currency forgers).
Don't be suprised if there is an attack on a Marine Base WITHIN THE PERIMETER by Jihadiots in uniform who were able to get past the guards by flashing perfect copies of military ID's.
Besides, aren't the Jihadiots on record as having expressed frustration that their bombers haven't been able to penetrate military bases so far?
If something like this happens, well.. let's hope it doesn't.

Sorry guys, But I'm going to go 'against the flow' here with my response to the above question.
I would imagine his family gave this response in order to appease the Jihadists who were on the verge of lynching their entire family and burning their house and everything they own to the ground.
Given the circumstances, an understandable response if you ask me.

A Muslim Brother who spent terrible times beeing under captivation was released and people start to show their concerns of why he was freed. It's not difficult to imagine he was released based upon his religion and there is no joy to start calling him all kind of suspecions.
And on the note of registration, if this is for eliminating all critic voices, making here as a closed band, then I feel really sorry for all of you. Becuase you degrade the level of discussion drastically.

Did his captors enter the base, grab him, then give him some time to pick up his stuff? Obviously not. Why did he leave the base on his own with all his gear in tow, then? Once NCIS and JAG investigations are complete, I'm betting we'll see what we all know to be true: no muslim can be loyal to the US Armed Forces and still be a true muslim. I would like nothing better than to be wrong, but as Catherine says, this doesn't pass "the smell test."
BTW, he's already broken his promise to his captors and fellow members of the ummah NOT to return to the US military. I guess lying to your fellow muslims is acceptable when they hold a sword over your neck.

spelling and typing are a problem for me but that does not make me stupid! The computer is a wonderful thing like the car or washing mac.s are!! We all can not be perfect! I think I will take my looks over spelling any day!
