Saudi schoolchildren are being taught to disparage Christianity and Judaism in a textbook issued by the education ministry, a report said yesterday.The book forms part of the kingdom's revised curriculum - supposedly cleaned up after complaints that demonising the west had become endemic in Saudi schools.
A lesson for six-year-olds reads: "All religions other than Islam are false." A note for teachers says they should "ensure to explain" this point.
The Saudi Institute, a Washington-based pro-reform group, said yesterday the book, Monotheism and Fiqh, contradicted the Koran.
"The Saudi contention that Judaism and Christianity are false religions is clearly refuted by the Koran," it says in a report, quoting a verse.
Hmm. I have great respect for the Saudi Institute, but it is odd that they would insist that the contention that Judaism and Christianity are false religions is contradicted by the Qur'an. I wonder how that squares with verses like Qur'an 9:30: "The Jews call 'Uzair [Ezra] a son of Allah, and the Christians call Christ the son of Allah. That is a saying from their mouth; (in this) they but imitate what the unbelievers of old used to say. Allah's curse be on them: how they are deluded away from the Truth!" Common Muslim teaching, based on verses like this one, is that what are known as Judaism and Christianity today are actually corruptions of the true religions revealed through Moses and Jesus — and that the true form of both is, you guessed it, Islam.

On this subject,I have a serious question. I live within a stones' throw of camp david,md. My wife and I moved away from Frederick,Md.(home to Ft. detrick)to get away from the urban build-up that has turned that city into a congested subcommunity of Wash.D.C. I have recently found out that a 100 acre lot in nearby Buckeystown,Md. has been bought and is planned to be developed into a muslim center for 3-4,000 followers. It is going to consist of a huge mosque,a 'community center',and a series of schools for muslim children,young adults, and "any and all converts",from the area. Frederick county has tried to stop the construction of the center,but the much more liberal Montgomery county has stepped in and allowed the future center to draw on their water. A great deal of controvery was stirred up because the center has to point....well you know where. This is important.What to do? This area is a conservative christian stronghold,but now this center will be the largest 'religious' center short of N.Viginia and D.C. It's getting near the doorstep. A few friends of mine and I were planning on handing out flyers when this indoctrination center opens it's 'gates'.Any suggestions from my fellow sane human beings on how to deal with this is welcome. 100 acres! I looked at the area and what was once a beatiful piece of farmland is now going to be turned into a muslim camp. Maybe we should draw up a plan of action for others to resist this influence.....and of course,the muslim leaders have been saying all the right things.NOONE in the local goverment has said a word about the dangers of building a super-muslim encampment smack dab in the middle of a clearly christian farm community.Thoughts?

If Rowan Williams (say) were serious about his office, he would in effect be saying the same thing about Christianity. So, a bad example of what is so outrageous in the Saudi schoolbooks, unless you want to toe the PC line and gasp at such unilateral theological arrogance. (Of course, it's also a pretty terminal case of confounding church and state. But that was a given anyway.)
More broadly, I have no problem with being called an infidel; the feeling is quite mutual. It's the "and you should therefore be killed in a horrible manner" part (which is not mutual) that I take issue with.

I know the Saudis have spent billions building these massive muslim centers across the world. Maybe if someone can find a link to Saudi money and this development that might have some propaganda value in getting it stopped. Local politicians might be less supportive knowing that the country that financed 9/11 was also financing this place. Or how about a newspaper debate - we'll let you build your stinking mosque the day that the Saudi's allow the building of Christian churches and Hindu temples in their benighted kingdom. If you have young children in your family, they will be able to obtain a good Islamic education in the school(s) that you say will be included in the center. They will learn of Allah's (swt) straight path and will be fortified against the Satanic temptations of American society.
On a more practical note, if it should come to pass that societal discord and governmental oppression increase (as is advocated, I fear, by many of the commentors here), you can rest assured that the Muslims who are assembled at the Center will extend their protection to the nearby lands.

If Jesus remained dead, Christianity is false. if Jesus is indeed the Messiah, Rabbinic Judaism is false and Islam especially false. Jesus, the King of all Creation, may allow this mosque to be built so that the people He will call out from the Muslims there can turn to Him without having to die the same day by relatives who would try to kill them for being apostates.

Christians have everything from Jesus, the way, the truth and the life. I agree. Some more respect for our own history and culture in the education system would be a healty counterbalance.
JOB: I agree with your reposte to Reza, however the Biblical text you quoted was John 8:44 rather than 9:44.

In reference to the Muslim community center being built in your area, you MUST mobilze your neighbors and march on town hall at the next council meeting. They are the ones who approve building projects. I have watched it happen here in my own neighborhood. Whenever the council trys to do something we don't like or want that is what we do. We have stopped apartments being built, trees being cut down and a developer from buiding a neighborhood of small homes. The town council cringes when they hear that the Nottingham Neighbors are coming to one of their meetings. We owe our organiation to the leadership of one woman who keeps us informed through flyers and literally sometimes going house to house. It's not easy but sometimes an indivdual has to take the mantal of leadership. You may be it.
