The plot unraveled when the NYPD's Intelligence Division began conducting surveillance earlier this year on a group of Muslim men in Brooklyn.One of the men arrested yesterday had been thrown out of the group, sources said.
"Whether this is al Qaeda or an unstable lone wolf doesn't make much of a difference as to the danger," said a law enforcement official.
The men, described as being in their 20s, don't appear to be connected with Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda network, sources said.
During the course of the investigation of the Brooklyn group, cops learned the two men had mentioned they wanted to bomb a train and went so far as to draw up sketches of the station, sources said.
This is setting a very dangerous precedent. If something annoys you, go out and bomb a subway...!
Muslims seem to prefer this to peaceful protests or dialogue. Yeah, don't you know it's all part of their 'peaceful and tolerant ' religion.
If anything, this points up a worse situation: muslims who aren't even part of terrorist groups, making terrorist attacks. No way can we monitor 2 million+ potential idiots.

This is yet another example of ignorance or PC, that sees the enemy as belonging to al-qaeda only. Time and time again, one sees that 'moderate muslims' from all walks of life, some even in the US army, are engaging in Jihad against the West. Yet we will not admit this, and continue believing in the fiction that it is al-Qaeda and al-Qaeda alone, that is our enemy. Al-Qaeda is just one self proclaimed enemy. By naming just al-qaeda and a few other Islamic groups, Western governments hope to beguile the genetral population, that we are at war with just a few terror groups and it is not Islam that we are at war with. Hence the the War on Terror.
I just do not know how long we can keep up this pretense and fiction. It is not naming the enemy that is behind the difficulty that GWB is having in convincing even the US, that we are in a serious war. How can he? If he cannot even name the enemy, then the war cant be serious enough to justify all that he says about the seriousness of the war.

I watched O'Reilly's show a few weeks ago when he was interviewing someone who actually is a "moderate" Muslim, As in a person who is opposed to terrorism and for equality. O'Reilly told this person candidly that people are tired of it and that he hear's that from people all the time. I'm also tired of it Buddist, Hindus, Sikh, Christians, Jews you name it are able to adapt and live in harmony. But Islam encourages violence and condones the killing of innocents.It's time that Muslims stop being allowed to come to the west and that steps be taken to remove non-citizen Muslims from our lands. Let them return to their hell holes in the Middle East with no access to western education, techology or health care and we'll see how long these proud Muslims last.

Thanks, DP111, for articulating what I've been struggling with for a while now - wondering why everyone wastes time looking for links to Al-Q, and putting all the focus on Al-Q and the other organized groups like Jamaah Islamiyah in Indonesia. As if it makes it all better, or a non-issue, if there are no links to these groups.
The point is, 9/11 was an inspiration for many Islamics. It made them feel powerful, hooray Islam scores a point against the West! It was wonderful to see the stuff they've been brainwashed with from day one in technicolor action.
Besides with all the concentration on looking for links to Al-Q, it would be dangerous to seek association with them. Higher risk of getting caught. So much better to be a "lone wolf" when you think about it.
Al-Q, lone wolf - both working for the same purpose. If you're in a war, you don't have to officially enlist in the army to do your bit for your country. So Islamics don't have to enlist in some organized group to do their bit for their cult either.
But as others have said, govt is squeamish to voice what we're saying here. It raises some uncomfortable issues - like: we cannot trust Muslims. Their loyalty is to Islam.
Aah, patience and courage, my friends! truth will (have to) prevail. Another big terror attack and I'm betting the tide of public opinion will turn against so strongly against political correctness that the islamists will get ass kicked bigtiime here on the mainland US.

But in order to have a legion of volunteers willing to kill themselves for a greater cause, extremist muslims must instill guilt in their jihad soldiers. Until the polictical leaders get serious about bringing down islam, the best you can hope for is containment. And containment carries the implication that you could finalize the matter -- if you chose to do it -- otherwise, you can not contain anyone.
Imagine if we "contained" Hitler, or Tojo? We would still be graced with these personalities to this very day. Imagine an interview with Hitler on Face The Nation in the states!
Fortunately, the politicians back then were made of sterner stuff, and the people were united against a common threat.

Hillary: Ban All 527's, Laura Wrong to Defend Swiftvets
New York Sen. Hillary Clinton said Sunday that she would support "a truce" that would ban all further broadcasts of political ads funded by 527 groups for the duration of the presidential campaign.
The move that would put an end to commercials by the Swiftboat Veterans for Truth as well as millions of dollars in campaign commercials by Democratic groups like MoveOn.org, America Coming Together and the Media Fund, run by Sen. Clinton's former top aide, Harold Ickes. The top New York Democrat was asked by NBC's "Meet the Press" host Tim Russert, "Why not have, in effect, a truce, and pull all 527 ads down on both sides?"
Sen. Clinton replied without hesitation, "I'd be for that."
But in the next breath she added, "I don't think you'd get agreement on that, because there's too much intensity and too much money [involved]."
Calling ads by the Swiftvets "smears" and an attempt at "character assassination," Mrs. Clinton attacked First Lady Laura Bush for defending the 527 group in an interview with Time Magazine released Sunday.
"Oh, I think [Mrs. Bush's defense] is unfortunate, because [the Swiftvet ads] are not only unfair, they're flat-out wrong," she told ABC's "This Week." "Even the president has regretted that they're being used in this way."
But after citing President Bush's condemnation of all 527 ads, she accused him of secretly engineering the Swiftvet campaign, telling "This Week," "certainly people close to his campaign have been involved in them. If you find a turtle on a fence post, you know, it didn't get there by accident."
Asked about the Swiftvet ads, Mrs. Bush had told Time, "Do I think they're unfair? Not really. There have been millions of terrible ads against my husband."

War, they say is the ultimate clarifier. It clarifies issues like no other event. It defines who WE are, and it defines who the Enemy is. If you are not with us then you are against us - isnt that something the President said?
And yet, here we are, we cannot even name the enemy. Instead of the war giving clarity, it has led to obfuscation of even the identity and nature of the enemy. How could this happen?
We are hobbled by our desire to 'appear' fair and just, when there really can never be fairness between victims and oppressors. There can never be a balanced approach between Truth or Freedom and the Big Lie of Islam. That is what Political correctness is. The attempt to equate all values as equal, regardless of the cost. But there is no such thing as a free lunch, they say. PC carries a price and the price will be greater with time. I hope we learn before we cannot afford pay up.
