While there likely aren't any posters depicting exotic destinations on the wall, an al-Qaida travel agency operates in Latin America to help terrorists enter the U.S., the 9-11 commission reports.The revelation was part of the panel's final report issued Saturday as the commission formally disbanded.
The global terror network operates a travel service that uses human smugglers as tools, reported Agence France-Presse.
"There are uncorroborated law-enforcement reports suggesting that associates of al-Qaida used smugglers in Latin America to travel through the region in 2002, before traveling onward to the United States," the panel said, without offering specifics.
Though the reference is to 2002, recent news reports indicate a growing concern that Arab terrorists are using the porous southern border to enter the United States.
Though the problem is getting more attention now, WorldNetDaily reported in 2001 that the number of Middle Eastern illegals crossing the southern border was on the rise.
Federal agents said OTMs – border lingo for "other than Mexicans" – were an increasing problem.

The folks who have been living along the southern border have been dealing with this problem for years. All of a sudden it's news?
Being a rancher or a farmer along that part of the states means you have to always be loaded for bear.
So now, they are concerned about terrorists using this highway? I'm shocked, shocked I tell ya!
Getting enough quality time at the firing ranges to achieve & maintain real proficiency in all of the various weapons systems is always a challenge for the military. I propose that, in order to address this deficiency, we turn the southern border into a giant range, with moving targets to boot!

Perhaps the American government would like to offer a deal. Those Mexican would-be immigrants who manage to find, and capture (they should not attempt to kill, in case of mistaken identity) Arabs and other would-be Jihadis crossing the border, will in recompense not only be allowed into the country, but permitted to stay and ultimately to obtain citizenship. This is one way of deputizing a large number of people who are perhaps ideally placed to know what is really going on in the border crossing business, and the routes, and the people involved. They will get a much-desired reward. Arab and other Muslim "immigrants" will be easier for Mexicans to discern, and to seize. In the case of Mexicans involved in the illegal smuggling business, if they agree to cooperate with the American government in this effort, they may receive 1) forgiveness for previous misdeeds and/or 2) cash rewards and/or 3) essentially, "coupons" good for allowing the legal entry of a determined number of otherwise illegal immigrants in their care.
Yes, there are many features about this that one would wish not to encourage. But as with the cooperation that the American Mafia gave to the American government during World War II, especially on the docks, and not only on this side of the Atlantic (vide Lucky Luciano), it may be worth trying. A few Mexican immigrants allowed in legally, and relieved of worry, will hardly represent a threat to American citizens. A few, or more than a few, Arab Muslims crossing the border, who might be stopped with this plan -- well, that is another matter altogether.

MOSCOW -- Drunken passengers often give air crews trouble, but Russia's leading airline on Tuesday reported an "unprecedented" reversal: A passenger was assaulted by intoxicated flight attendants.
Two crew members on a domestic Aeroflot flight beat up a passenger who had complained that the flight attendants were drunk, airline spokeswoman Irina Dannenberg said.
The passenger, identified only as A. Chernopup, was aboard a recent flight from Moscow to the Siberian city of Nizhnevartovsk, Dannenberg said. She said the crew belonged to another airline, Aviaenergo.
Seeing that the crew were intoxicated and were not fulfilling their duties, Chernopup asked to be served by a sober and competent flight attendant, Dannenberg said. He was then beaten up by crew members.
On Russian flights, attendants often have to struggle to keep intoxicated passengers under control. But on this flight, Dannenberg said, flight attendants were so intoxicated that they "behaved improperly" and only began catering to passengers 1 1/2 hours into the four-hour trip
The daily Izvestia quoted another passenger as saying that half of the food the crew served ended up on the floor, leaving the aisle strewn with debris that passengers had to walk over as they disembarked
According to the passenger, Chernopup left the plane with a black eye and was promptly sent to a doctor. Izvestia also reported that a criminal case was opened after Chernopup reported the incident to the police.
Dannenberg said that the plane was carrying out an Aeroflot flight, but both the aircraft and the crew belonged to Aviaenergo. Aeroflot has been contracting out from Aviaenergo since August 2003, but the incident prompted it to tighten control over Aviaenergo's staff, she said.
The entire crew of the flight has been temporarily dismissed and a joint commission is investigating the incident, Dannenberg said.
Maybe we can work a deal with the Russians who like to drink and beet the passengers up?

I had the good fortune to listen to Victor Mordecai on Michael Medved's show today. Apparently, Israel is quite safe, full of tourists, and with virtually no "incidents" of late.
This is attributed, among other things, to the security fence/wall being built around Israel.
I say, let's outsource the job of border security in the U.S. to Israel.
The only regret I have is that because of PC, we may ultimately have to turn our beloved country into a fortress.
I have another idea. . . as I am sure many of you do.
We've waited this long we can wait another 60+ days. Let W get the Hispanic vote. Then with 4 more years and nothing to lose he is already deploying troops and I would like to think they are border bound. We can stop catering to the Mexicans.
