An Iranian athlete has pulled out of a competition so as to avoid fighting an Israeli. From Al-Bawaba, with thanks to Teri:
Iranian world judo champion Arash Miresmaili, who carried his country's flag in Friday's olympic games opening ceremony, has pulled out of the tournament because he refused to fight an Israeli.The 23-year-old, twice a winner of the flyweight (under 66kg) world title, opted not to take on first round opponent Ehud Vaks of Israel as an express of support for Palestine.
"Although I have trained for months and was in good shape I refused to fight my Israeli opponent to sympathize with the suffering of the people of Palestine and I do not feel upset at all," Miresmaili told IRNA.
Miresmaili says it was about solidarity with the Palestinians. But might it have something to do with the Muslim idea that infidels are unclean? Take, for example, Miresmaili's fellow Shi'ite, the Ayatollah Sistani. At Sistani's website, he lists ten things that are "essentially najis" (unclean). Go to "Najis Things" in the main title line to find this list:
1. Urine 2. Faeces 3. Semen 4. Dead body 5. Blood 6. Dog 7. Pig 8. Kafir [Unbeliever] 9. Alcoholic liquors 10. The sweat of an animal who persistently eats najasat [unclean things].

How could someone who believes all this participate in a judo match with an unbeliever? The physical contact with an unbeliever would make him unclean.

How can someone who believes that participate in the Olympics? If Jews are kufr by that definition, what are Japanese, Germans, Portugese, Americans?
The team wasted its money by going to Athens.
But I suspect that a Japanese athlete will not raise the same concerns, which means it's not about being a "Muslim"; it's about hating Jews. If it's really about being a Muslim, they need to have "all clean" Olympics with only Muslim athletes, or maybe only Iranian athletes.
In that case, why compete in ANY contact sport?
Or it is a face saving way to avoid the risk of being defeated by a Jew.

Whoever has written this article was not in his best day. If the problem were that infidels are unclean as you suggest then no moslem athlete would ever go to any competition with non moslems.

I have bookmarked this site. I read it with great interest. The Iranians are less inclined to indulge in Taqiyya than others as they actually take pride in their insanity. Thank goodness that someone like Sistani is actually willing to state his views clearly without taqiyya and kitman so that Westerners can clearly see what Islam is all about (or at least Sistani's version of it).

Your conclusion is, in fact, incorrect. If questions of the uncleanliness of non-Muslim athletes are indeed part of this Iranian athlete's consideration, this would disqualify him not from all sports, but only from sports in which he would come into direct physical contact with the kuffar.

You seem to forget that this iranian judoka has been twice world champion so he has got in physical contact with infidels many times. It seems to me they have a special hate for Jews and besides iranian regime somehow seems it is seeking a confrontation with the West or at least a leadership in the muslim world.

Supposedly Arash Miresmaili (the athlete) was interviewed by Israeli TV for about a minute before his handlers pulled him away. In the interview he basically alluded to the fact that he wanted to compete, but was not allowed and that his dream (for a medal) is over. He was holding back the tears. Heard this from a friend who saw it on TV.
I think we have to give the benefit of the doubt to this man, who may be nothing more than a puppet of his regime.
This gets better by the minute. Iranians take themselves far to seriously. They'll go back home with very few medals, and probably be tortured by the infidel Mullahs.....

Early Saturday morning, the insomnia got me up at 3:30am. It wasn’t the worst episode of it so far, though, and I’m hardly complaining - it DID avail me of the splendid chance to watch the Opening Ceremony of the Athens Olympiad on TV. The Tableau was magnificent and pretty dramatic, the speeches, in stark contrast, were fairly full of platitudes.
With the contestants and officials filing in behind their flags, the ATN-7 commentators kept insisting that there were 202 “nations” competing this year, whereas, curiously, to date, there are no more than 191 States in the UN. This erroneous sum of 202 “nations” was “casually” repeated on yesterday evening’s News on SBS (which SHOULD know better).
While not every single sovereign state on Earth’s fielding a squad (no Vatican athletes, for example), among the 202 participating “nations” are sprinkled such entities as Puerto Rico, Guam and American Samoa (which are US Overseas Dependencies), Bermuda, the Cayman Islands and the British Virgin Islands (British Colonies), Aruba and the Netherlands Antilles (Territories of Holland), Chinese Hong Kong and “Chinese Taipei” (Taiwan - an especially delicate item indeed, in any international event) - plus... “PALESTINE”.
The Home-Team, predictably, received the loudest adulation of all. In the hallowed Olympic spirit, boisterous clapping filled the Stadium for the North and South Koreans, marching in unison. Competitors from Afghanistan, returning to the Games following years of absence, and Iraq, no longer prey to the sadism of Saddam’s son, gained enthusiastic acclaim from the spectators. There was keen, warm, welcoming applause greeting everybody, large and small.
However - inordinately - there was an EXTRA LIFT in the volume for two particular entrants: “Palestine” (most probably - sadly - so much cheering for them was inevitable, due to the large number of Arabs in the audience and the low-grovelling dhimmitude of Greek Governments for decades), but, as well, astoundingly, there was a hearty round for - of all places - SUDAN!
I had to ascribe the clamour for Sudan directly to sheer ignorance on the crowd’s behalf. Those persons attending (who aren’t totally apathetic) would generally be heavily subject to the slick, gross DISINFORMATION - plied through a ubiquitous, soft-left media - of the EU, the UN, the Arab League and the new African Union (now jointly disputing the existence of any Genocide in Sudan’s Darfur Province - let alone one perpetrated by the Islamist, Arab central Government).
The telecast concluded here somewhat after the crack of dawn, but - a bit disgruntled by these two impressions (the heightened ovations for “Palestine” and Sudan) - despite being desperately tired by that time, I wasn’t able to get back to sleep....
So what happens on TV...do they get the dirtiest muslims to rant and rave in front of the cameras? All most all the footage I have seen from these backwards muslim countries the people look like they havent seen a bath in months, look like they still do not know soap and shampoo have been invented, look sweaty and gross as though deodorant has not made it to their shores...in a crowd of 50 it would be difficult to locate 20 teeth, and the ones that are located are brown, cracked and crooked....so is it really that TV personal seek out muslims that are dirty and toothless or is that an acurate sampling of muslims in the mideast...not to say that there are not some westerners that do not bathe, but they are (thankfully) the exception not the rule...so I guess I dont mind that the aforementioned people do not think I am unclean...I shower daily, use deodorant, get a weekly manicure and visit the hairdresser regularly...if they think that is 'unclean' so be it...I would rather be that kind of 'unclean' than their kind of 'clean'.

The Jews have kicked the crap out of muslims each time they were dumb enough to challange them so he figured that he was going to be another statistic in the muslims book of shame. He was also probably trying to keep his head, imagine if (err..when) the Israeli beat him..abdul would be waiting at the airport sword in hand, to welcome him home. You are right, the swimming and diving events have to be hell for the burka clad athletes, but imagine the track and field, tripping over hurtles, and that burka really has to slow a gal down in the sprints...lets not forget the triathalon...running, swimming and biking in that tent..did you catch the announcers comment when saudi arabia came in during the opening ceremonies....he was sure to make note that NO WOMEN were on that team...like we would have expected them to be...

I remember that I've read an article in a magazine reporting that the muslim nations want to create their own version of Olympic. This is in order to accommodate the muslim women who want to participate in the competition.

I've just heard this story and this site gave me a better idea of what had happened because I could not find it anywhere else. I love the Olympic games!! I can not understand this person. One would think he would want to defeat his enemy and not back down from him. I do not like seeing politics in the games but in reality its there. Has anyone else noticed the low scores given to Americans in events that are left up to judges? Pray tell! Am I crazy? All these athletes work hard and deserve the scores they earn despite what country they are from!!
