Capitol, lawmakers targeted, officials confirm

No surprise here. From the Washington Times, with thanks to Jeffrey Imm:

Congressional leaders have been told that federal lawmakers and the U.S. Capitol, in addition to five financial centers identified last week, are targets for attack by al Qaeda terrorists.

Frances Townsend, homeland security adviser at the White House, and Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr., Delaware Democrat, both appearing on CBS' "Face the Nation," confirmed the threats and their extent as officials remain concerned about pre-election terrorist attacks, including abductions and assassinations.

The disclosures helped explain traffic checkpoints and other tighter security imposed last week around Capitol Hill.

When asked directly by interviewer Bob Schieffer whether "there have been some threats against the Capitol and members of Congress," Mrs. Townsend replied "yes."

Mrs. Townsend confirmed that the previously undisclosed threats to Capitol Hill are part of a "continuing threat stream" of intelligence.

"We knew that al Qaeda was practiced in the training camps for assassinations and kidnappings, and there are a number of others like that that are continuing threat streams," she said.

Well, when all of the Muslims are shoved out the Washington, D.C.-Don't try to pawn them off on Ohio, we don't want them here. Just put them in a boat, and send them back to where they belong, which isn't inside our borders.

It is incumbent upon all of not to pass the buck on any intelligence lead. Passing the buck has happened all too often.

OT: here is an interesting article regarding fertility rates in Muslim countries. You will note that if current fertility rates in Yemen are sustained, they will have a population greater than that of France or the UK by 2050.

Much of the world is challenged by skewed population growth, according to the 2003 World Population Data Sheet, published by the Population Reference Bureau. While some developed nations are experiencing a population nosedive from which they may never recover, many poor nations are still adding millions of people to a world of abject poverty, hunger, and disease.

The pace of population growth inexorably affects markets, capital accumulation, labor availability, job creation, immigration, migration, health care, retirement benefits, education, and a host of other national considerations. High total fertility rates (average total number of children a women has) are exclusively found in the poorest nations, where women often have six or more children.

“Have and have-not nations live in totally different worlds,” noted PRB demographer Carl Haub, the data sheet’s author, “but they are all shaped by their rate of growth. What constitutes balanced population growth remains for each nation to decide and is a question of endless debate.”

An astounding 99 percent of all population growth takes place in developing countries. Developed countries, which held roughly one-third of the global population in 1950, now represent less than one-fifth the total, and the percentage will fall annually. Of the major industrialized nations, only the United States combines a significant total fertility rate, 2.0, and relatively high immigration.

Eastern Europe leads in decline, followed by Western and Southern Europe. The former Soviet Union and its late Eastern-bloc satellites are expected to lose more than one-sixth of their regional population by 2050, dropping from 301 million to 247 million.

Japan, which currently has little immigration, will drop from 127 million to 101 million by mid-century. Germany and Italy are also projected to lose population. Once a country’s childbearing age groups are significantly diminished, its ability to regenerate population growth becomes quite difficult, even if the birth rate rises. The total developed country population is slated to start declining about 2025. The graying of the industrialized nations creates a dilemma for many: maintain the basic ethnic stock of the nation or diversify and let in immigrants to maintain the labor force.

Conversely, over the next 47 years Africa is expected to increase its population by 119 percent, adding 1 billion people as Europe experiences a 9 percent decline. Africa, especially sub-Saharan Africa, must create millions of jobs, health care facilities, and educational opportunities at a time of staggering poverty, conflict, and epidemics.

The population of western Asia is projected to more than double by 2050, going from 204 million to 418 million. Iraq’s war-scarred population, for example, is expected to rise from 24.2 million to 60.5 million by mid-century. Yemen’s population will jump from 19.4 million today to 71.1 million in 2050, becoming more populous than France or the United Kingdom are today or will be in 2050. And the Palestine Territory’s high rate of natural increase will make the area more populous than Israel by around 2050.

This year’s World Population Data Sheet shows that in developed countries the percent of population ages 65 and older is three times higher than in less developed countries; and the percent of children 15 years and younger in less developed countries, excluding China, is twice that of developed nations.

As a result of skewed growth rates, a country like Italy has a surplus of teachers and schools, while a sub-Saharan African country such as Mali has a high proportion of uneducated youngsters and a limited educational infrastructure.

The data sheet’s listing of the world’s 20 largest countries in 2003 and 2050 show industrialized countries, with the exception of the United States, falling in rank. Russia, Japan, Germany, and France are all being passed by less developed countries. As a sign of the times, France was replaced as number 20 by Uganda.

The 2003 World Population Data Sheet has the most up-to-date demographic data and estimates for all the countries and major regions of the world. The rundown provides a look at regional and national contrasts in age structure, population growth, life expectancy, income, and other determinants that mark today’s bifurcated world population growth.

OT: Dr. Alan Clifford has gone on a previously scheduled 3 week vacation; here is some news about him.

Worshippers back 'Islam is evil' vicar

August 9, 2004 12:48

A CONTROVERSIAL Norwich pastor who echoed comments by British National Party leader Nick Griffin that Islam was an "evil" religion has the backing of his congregation.

There has also been a wealth of support from across the world for the Reverend Dr Alan Clifford, of Norwich Reformed Church.

But the first service since his remarks exclusively revealed in the Evening News was an opportunity for the church to distance itself from the BNP and also to express "love" for Muslims, with Dr Clifford's deputy stressing his remarks were about the Qur'an.

Dr Clifford told the Evening News last week: "The views about Islam made by Nick Griffin gained widespread publicity and I happen to believe what he said in this case was correct.

"The only antidote to this evil religion is the pure Gospel of Jesus Christ."

And although Dr Clifford was not in the pulpit because he has gone on holiday, his congregation said he had plenty of backing after his remarks.

The service, at Eaton Park Community Centre, was given in Dr Clifford's absence by the Reverend Stephen Quinton.

Mr Quinton used his sermon about what it takes to be a good Christian to stress how the church was not racist and did not agree with the policies of the BNP.

He also asked the congregation to pray for Christians in Egypt and the Sudan to be saved from persecution by Muslim leaders.

He said afterwards: "We do not hate Muslims. We love Muslims and the majority of them are not a threat. Our religion teaches us to love our enemies and we would never urge aggression. But if you look at parts of the Qur'an they do."

Mr Quinton said the church had received messages of support for Dr Clifford's comments from all over the globe, including the USA, Nigeria and Gambia.

He explained Dr Clifford had gone on a three-week holiday, but added he was certainly not fleeing from the controversy his comments courted. He said: "I think he will be a bit disappointed he wasn't here. The holiday was planned in advance and he is not running away."

One member of the congregation, responding to comments by Anne Matin, the director of Norwich and Norfolk Racial Equality Council about the church, said: "Nobody needs to be concerned about this flock. If you were to ask for an example of a good Christian then Rev Clifford would be it."

Police last week launched an inquiry into Dr Clifford's comments after saying they were concerned his remarks "could damage community cohesiveness".

For now the talk is on possible threats,I think were Ok until the start of RAMADAN,that when
the real slaughtering will come.
I figured it out that it's always the opposite
of what Muslims say,for example the most violent parts of Muslim areas are in "Holy City" and
weapons are stored in "Mosques" and the holy month of Ramadan must be the most murderous time
since it's the core of the tenets.

its past time for all politicians, businessmen,
academics, media people: EVERYONE.

to cease taking bribes from the muslims.
in fact don't do business with them at all.

(there's plenty of good oil in other parts of the world).

you will only have yourselves to blame
when they destroy you.

Would like to add my 2cents to Population debate.
In history of the West, we have always had low numbers compared to Asia, Africa and Middle East.
Nothing new there. While we keep ahead in technology, we'll be okay . Israel, that little
state, with its tiny population, can keep big Arab neighbours at bay, provides us with a perfect
example that 'brains' score over 'brawn' in a modern world.

Morgan
That sounds good but you need both the brains to make the weapons that the brawn use to kill the evil Rembemer we used both to stop the war with Japan and saved millions of lifes by useing both!!

And Isreal has won some battles but this one they are loosing because they are being PC!!

I don't want to worry when I go shopping that some mulsum is going to blow up V.S. cause they don't want me to have pretty pantys?

That is no way to live ! It is kill or be Killed and the nuts say they want to be killed so we have to help them along and these nuts are all over the world! They don't abide by treatys they sign so what can you do but kill them end of story!!

Remember G.W. said that there would be many battles some we would see and others that we would not see but do not fret they are being waged!!!
We will win this war!!

Part of the American Tribe
God Bless the USA and her Fighting Forces and All who Fight with her give them Wisdom,Strength and Courage to stay the course to Victory Amen

DC Watson,
Interesting that you should say :

Just put them in a boat, and send them back to where they belong, which isn't inside our borders.

Hmmm!Satans Ferryman springs to mind!!!
