Two leaders of a mosque in Albany have been charged with plotting to murder a Pakistani diplomat in New York City. Muslim-American activist Kamal Nawash told The Factor that Muslim leaders need to speak out against terror: "We have to come out and admit that we have a problem with extremism... it's a movement that's been growing for twenty years throughout the entire Muslim world." Nawash further claimed that many as fifty percent of Muslims around the world support the goals of the extremists.
Off topic a bit, but related to the pressures of extremism in islam:
One of my muslim colleagues has a wife who recently experienced a miscarriage. This is significant for them because this is not the first miscarriage they have had.
The miscarriage is far more serious than just losing another baby. Muslim men are required to take another wife if their current wife cannot bear children. My colleague is thus put into an awkward position because of his 'religion'.
While he may be 'moderate' in comparison to other muslims, he is nonetheless subjected to the rigid ness and inflexibility that is islam. For example, they could not even choose to adopt a child since this is prohibited in islam (along with just about everything else). He even had to grow a beard when he traveled back to India to visit his family.
Although some muslims may be moderate, islam itself is not. As long as it is regarded as the ultimate and sole solution to everything for muslims, the threat to non-muslims will never diminish.

If by "extremism" they mean fundamental adherence to the Koran, sunnah, etc., then why the surprise that more than the median number of muslims are "extreme"?
This is what I've been saying all along, that the position on the ideological spectrum that is occupied by the "mainstream" members of Islam, is fundamentally incompatible and mutually exclusive with all other ideologies on the planet. This isn't the first time humanity has seen this kind of incompatibility. Notable examples are 20th century Nazism, Racism, Stalinist and Maoist Socialism. When one of these ideologies is no longer tolerable to the body politic of the planet, the Gaia immune system kicks in and it is expunged.
Lesson One for the West: Islam is not the same thing as a "religion" and all that the label religion imports. Rather, Islam is an all encompassing political, social, and economic ideology which, like a highly infectious pathogen, is extremely resistant to reform.
Lesson Two: Our forebears who faced the scourge of jihad for over 1000 years had no problem with accepting the reality of Lesson One and they responded appropriately to the threat when they came into contact with its perpetrators. The truth is that the real number of Muslims that support terror at some level is somewhere above 50%. I'm going with the poll that was taken in the M.E. a couple of years ago that set the number at 80%. I think it was Gallup, but can't exactly remember. They say that while a small number are trigger pullers and fuse lighters, a significantly larger number provide financial support one way or another and an even larger number sympathize with the insanity. I guess the other 20% don't want us dead because they do business with us. Can't sell stuff to dead folks.
I like to think those numbers are reversed when it comes to Muslims in America, but who knows.

You imply that Bush has made mistakes in the war on Islamofascism and you're right. there have been a few. Starting with constantly referring to Islam as the religion of peace. Of course, if he didn't, the lying leftists and their media minions would be all over him like stink on a fresh cowpie. Actually I think it's the opposite on both the percentage and the direction of the trade. Just look at the trade figures for any of the Gulf states and you'll see that ships and planes arrive full and depart empty.

Here's an idea that I got from reading a post at banning Islam. Instead of trying to convince people in the West that Islam is not a religion, I suggest that we posit that Nazism is a religion. As a religion, should not its adherents be entitled to all the consideration and civil liberties accorded to all religions here in the West? OK, so the Nazis had a few odd tenets akin to jihad and Die Feuer (pbuh) was a little bit off, I'm sure that enough parallels can be drawn between the religion of Nazism and the religion of Islam to justify the same treatment, n'est-pas?

LOL! That's a good one Morgane. I think it might be true, however, I am still hoping for a bit more hopeful interpretation. I have to think there are some Muslims out there that look at what is going on in their religion and believe it is pretty horrible. At least, this is my hope - but underneath my cynicism I still hope for the best.

Actually, I think the motivation is different. The 20% who do not want us dead understand that if they kill us all, they will kill the goose that lays the golden egg. Where else can they go to live as parasites on? The parasite will die through starvation. While most of them don't get this now, a few of them do. Those that do, don't want to kill their meal ticket.
If Islam is so good for society, why is it that Ayatollah Sistani high tails it to London when he needs some real medical attention? Why not to Riyadh (oops, forgot, hospitals all manned by Western physicians), or any other "progressive" Islamic country? They've had 14 centuries to get it right, so why are they all so backward?
Hey all. I just wanted to share this with you. This is factual, and happened at about 6:45 this evening. I live outside of Columbus, Ohio. I live in a predominantly white, Christian town of around 20,000 people, with some African-American friends living here as well.
I went to the store to pick up a few things, and saw an Arab looking male walking to what I figured to be a 20 foot box truck he had parked out at the end of the parking lot. Of course, most of you can figure out the first thing that crossed my mind. I drove over near the truck, which was there when I got to the store, and was still there when I pulled out of the lot.
I circled around a 4-5 block area and came back around, stopping across the street from the grogery store. The truck was still sitting there. I then made the same pass around the block, and when I came around the second time, he was pulling out. I followed directly behind the truck, which had Canadian plates.
He drove past Town Hall, as I turned into their lot to speak with a City Police Officer about this. He took the information, but I hadn't gotten the plate number. The Officer said if there was any way to get the plate#, he'd definately see what he could find out. Please understand that we don't see too many Arab looking people in this area.
Back to the story, I took off down the road and caught up to the truck about 6 miles west of town on the Interstate. I had to haul ass because he was booking. Finally, I caught up to him, got the plate # and turned around. I headed back to Town Hall, passing the information along to two Police Officers.
I told them that I hoped that this was nothing at all, but better safe than sorry. They said they were going to call it in to the State Police and see what the deal was. I haven't heard anything from them so hopefully it was nothing.
This was my excitement for the day. Thanks for all of your time.
So many support the goal of extremists because they stupidly believe that everything will be great for Muslims if they subjugate all non-Muslims. They feel weak and useless, because they are. Their belief system makes them that way. But they refuse to believe that, instead blaming the West for the fact that Islamic countries are pathetic wastelands of misery, backwardness and poverty. Their war manual states how Islam is perfect and the final word of "God", so what's wrong with this picture? Why aren't we living in bliss and perfection, like our "prophet" says? Oh, well, of course, it's the nasty infidels who are preventing that reality from happening.
So they figure that if extremists destroy the nasty, immoral American economy and people, and subsequently the rest of the Western world's economy and people, then voila! there'll be this wonderful world of Islam, this caliphate. And they probably think the old "Golden Age" will return, despite the fact that this "Golden Age" wasn't because of Islam but in spite of it, and then fell apart because of Islam and what it does to humanity, creativity, productivity and progress.
Blind people believing in fairy tales, that extremists are their Super Heroes, coming to save Muslims from the Evil Empire of The West. Blind, and stupid. Them and their leftie supporters and apologists who make excuses for Islam and its failures.
I'd say that 50% figure is a bit low, a more accurate estimate would be 70-80%.
I have spoken with several Muslims here in New York,many of them drive cabs,work at news stands, sell fruit or other types of food on the street. They are all sympathetic to the terrorists.
Recently I was speaking to a young man who is a Muslim from Bangladesh. I asked him what he thought about Wahabbism, the most virulent and violent strain of Islam ,and he thought nothing wrong with it.
