A blast outside a subway station in central Moscow that killed eight people was caused by a female suicide bomber, Russian news agency Interfax quoted the federal security service FSB as saying.Earlier the interior ministry had said several theories were being considered, among them a suicide bomber but also an explosion in a car parked outside the station.
Police meanwhile had spoken of a bomb filled with bolts and other metal objects that had been placed in or under a car. But the security source quoted by Interfax gave only a female suicide bomber as an explanation for the blast.
The Russian government, the Russian press, and many people in Russia persist in wallowing in resentment of the United States. They appear to believe that we are delighted that Russia is no longer as powerful as it once was, and are delighted at its disarray. Nonsense. The United States is hardly paying attention to Russia, and there is no gloating. If anything, there is a desire to see Russia powerful enough to protect itself. There is a new understanding that what may have begun as a nationalist uprising in Chechnya rapidly, as perhaps it inevitably would, metamorphosed into a classic anti-Infidel Jihad. That is why there is now so little American complaint, or even interest in, what is happening in Chechnya. Now that Arabs, including Saudis, are there, now that planes are blown up, and in a Moscow theatre 800 people taken hostage, and the Muslims allowed to leave while the Infidels are kept under guard, now that the vocabulary of the Chechens has become classically Islamic (one wonders if any of the Chechens in Jordan, who along with Circassians helped form a trusty officer corps in the army, to protect the Hashemites from the "Palestinians," have found their way to Chechnya, or whether it is just the Saudis who have turned up there).
Russian policy should be based on a realistic assessment of threats. Americans are not planning to flood across the border into Siberia, or to take over the Caucasus. Islam contains a clear geopolitical program: the dar al-Islam must swallow up the dar al-Harb. It can be achieved slowly. It need not be achieved by military conquest; in fact, at this point, it is demographic conquest, without terrorism or other forms of qital, combat, that are already proving so effective in Western Europe.
Instead of resentment about "losing" the Cold War -- the Russians did not "lose" it, they simply came to realize, helped along by American resolve, that Communism itself was a failure. Whether or not, given the mistakes in economic and political policy -- and for the former it is true, a number of Bright-Eyed World's Greatest Authorities, such as Jeffrey Sacks (he who now directs that grandly-titled "World Institute" with the sinister-silly likes of Mary Robinson), were Americans and knew nothing of the psychology of homo sovieticus, and nothing of how to sensibly transfer ownership of state-owned enterprises and resources to private owners. But this is no reason to keep America at a distance.
Surely Putin, whatever his faults, knows what Islam is all about. Surely he can see, just in Moscow itself, that there is a demographic problem. Soviet Islamists were often very acute. They were not held in check by any undue respect for something called a "religion." They were more willing to see a political ideology, to which some features of worship were attached. They should be helping to fashion a policy that will prevent a second Zolotaya Orda, Golden Horde. One hopes they come to their senses sooner than Western Europeans give any sign of doing. Perhaps they should remind themselves of, to begin with, the Bulgarian atrocities commmitted by the Turks between 1875-76. Start with a little pan-Slavism, with Serbs and Bulgarians, and work forward from that.
Russians want a task equal to their putative power, and what they see as their rightful place in the world. Helping the Old World come to its senses about Islam is such a worthy task. They might just consider it.

I don't think we can expect much, if anything, from Russia. They appear to be going in reverse, with the state grabbing control of private companies, the crackdown on the press and on political opponents, helping the Iranians with their nuclear program, etc. If the rumours about Putin getting ready to send 40 000 troops to Iraq turn out to be true, I'll think again, but I doubt that will happen.
Given the amount of terrorism occurring in Russia surrounding the elections in Chechnya, we must expect the same kind of thing around Election Day. Remember the two young men who were arrested for plotting to blow up a subway station near MSG during the RNC?

The female bomber had the intention of going into the subway with her powerful pack of explosives, but hesitated after she noticed police watching the station entrance. Her head was later found on the roof of the station.
BBC interviews of Russian Authorities never mentioned Islamic Jihad (or the global aspirations of Jihad) only ‘terrorism’, i.e., same as a any individual incident of murder.

It isn't just subway commuters they are targeting today...just heard they (chechnyans) want to blow up about 200 russian school children and their parents...the parents and kids were just attending a beginning of semester open day. I guess the islamo-fascists with their barbaric/evil ideology don't mind at all killing innocent children in their hundreds. It's all so sad for the russians..they were only drawn back into fighting in chechnya because the warlords there decided they wanted to conquer the neighbouring russian republic (osetia i think it was) and set up some sort of islmao-fascist nightmare there. Then when russia decided to stop these fasist thugs from enslaving their fellow russians these barbarians complain that they are being oppressed and can now kill even more people with impunity. Things are getting worse. I certainly hope the russians don't decide on the 'mongol solution' as the only solution to the problem. For one thing this is the 21st century and secondly, I wouldn't want such a fate bwefalling anybody, even chechen terrorist sympathisers.
