South Africa: Christmas may be cancelled

Christmas as a national holiday is a legacy of apartheid? The CIA World Factbook on South Africa says that Christians make up 68% percent of the South African population; Muslims make up two percent. If Christmas is cancelled to avoid offending that two percent, it will become a legacy not of apartheid but of dhimmitude. From South Africa's Sunday Times, with thanks to Ali Dashti:

SOUTH Africa's 14 public holidays are up for review and "not one will be regarded as sacred".

This warning was given yesterday by Rufus Malatjie, chief director of legal services at the Department of Home Affairs, who heads a government task team evaluating the number of public holidays.

He said Christmas Day, Easter and Youth Day, on which the June 16 1976 Soweto uprising is commemorated, were also not exempt.

"I cannot guarantee that we will still have the Christmas Day holiday. At this stage anything is possible. There is no holiday that is regarded as being sacred. They are all being looked at," he said.

The team was appointed by Mangosuthu Buthelezi, the former Minister of Home Affairs, last November after complaints from the public that the South African calendar discriminated against religious groups and certain sectors of the population....

Sheikh Achmat Sedick, secretary-general of the Muslim Judicial Council, said his group had made a submission and would expect to be involved in further consideration of holidays.

He said Christmas, Easter and other religious holidays were legacies of apartheid and mainly reflected the priorities of the Dutch Reformed Church, to which most white leaders had belonged.

"Christmas and Easter were always there. If you want to retain them, then at least give us some consideration as well as all the other religions, which will be a logistical nightmare," he said.

"Maybe they just have to squash this whole idea of making the existing Christmas a national holiday, but I don't know... How are they going to accommodate the Jews, the Hindus, the Buddhists, the Rastafarians?"

Obviously that would be a logistical nightmare. Why must these populations be accomodated with national holidays at all? Why can't the majority reflect its culture in its observances? Why must this be considered an affront to others there?

GOODBYE SANTA CLAUS. HELLO ALI BABA AND THE FORTY
THIEVES!

There's not much I can say to this.

Next they will want to get rid of the Easter Bunny .

The insanity of Islamo-fascism continues.

A curious remark coming from Sheikh Achmat Sedick, a Muslim intent not only on getting rid of the observation of Christmas and Easter because, in Islam, there can be no celebration of the holidays of other religions (British nurses have been arrrested in Saudi Arabia, and by some reports tortured, merely for singing Christmas carols behind closed doors) and indeed, it is even forbidden to wish non-Muslims Merry Christmas or similar sentiments because that would be to dignify, and even honor, their preposterous -- because non-Muslim -- holidays. Meanwhile, the streets of France and Italy and Germany run red with rivers of sheeps' blood in all the Muslim quarters, as in defiance of public health laws, the throats of sheep are slit on the streets in the Muslim quarters, the no-go quarters, the quarters where the laws of the Infidel state might as well not exist.

And predictably, coming from a religion that not only recognizes the immutability of slavery -- for the Qur'anic passages about slavery are there, permanently, and they are not subject to abrogation (indeed, scarcely a month goes by without a Saudi imam mentions slavery in a khutba, or sermon, or a Saudi mufti issues an on-line fatwa about the fact that in Islam slavery is halal), there was an attempt by this Sheikh to link Christian holidays to apartheid, because Afrikaners belong to the Dutch Reformed Church. Well, yes, they do -- and almost all of the people who opposed apartheid also belonged to churches. So which churchgoers are we to be judged by -- those who supported apartheid, who were a small group, or the much larger group of Christians who opposed apartheid.

And since the question of linking a religion to a particular practice that is deemed, by most people, as now unacceptable, it should be noted throughout black Africa, and the rest of the world, that Muslims everywhere officially subscribe to a religion that officially sanctions slavery; by the same or a better logic as that offered by Sheikh Achmat Sedick, all Muslim holidays should be banned, and so should mosques and madrasas, for they are intimately connected to a belief-system that recognizes and supports -- even now -- the institution of slavery. Long before the Europeans arrived, the Arab slavers were going up and down the coast of East Africa, into the intererior, and even receiving slaves in West Africa for delivery -- those that managed to survive the treck across the Sahara, where the mortality rate was far higher than that of the Middle Passage (i.e. the Atlantic crossing) used in the European slave trade with the New World. Slavery in the Arab world began centuries earlier, and lasted centuries later -- indeed, has lasted effectively up to this very day, in many member-states of the Arab League. Blacks in the Sudan have been, and are being enslaved, and this has been well reported by outside observers, including the U.N. Special Rapporteur (the fact that the U.N. has done almost nothing has to dow with the grim fact that that organization has over the past few decades come under the near-total domination of its Muslim, especially Arab Muslim, bloc, which accounts not only for the constant vilification of Israel, and the obsessive attention given not only by the U.N. but by all of its subsidiary organizations and of course its series of Conferences, which, whether they are about the role of women, or children, or AIDS, or human rights, always end up being conferences about the mighty empire of Israel, and about -- not the relentless Jihad against Israel, but the clever substitute used to disguise that Jihad, the cause of "the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people."

At this very moment, Arab Muslims continue to enslave blacks in Mauritania, in Mali, in the Sudan, and no doubt, if we were to actually have observers (but 90% of the world's non-governmental and U.N. observers are too busy on the West Bank and Gaza), in Libya and southern Algeria as well. Slavery was officially abolished in Saudi Arabia in the early 1960s, under Western pressure (this was before the oil money made the West subservient to Saudi Arabia -- if slavery had continued for another decade or so, the West would never have managed to get it abolished). Today, Saudis treat their domestic female workers like slaves, and so do quite a few of the other sheikhdoms. Ads can be found in the Saudi press: offers to swap a girl for a late-model, but used, American car. Saudi imams thunder from the minbar: Slavery is justified, slavery is halal, permitted and not forbidden, according to the Qur'an. And so it is. The Qur'an approves of slavery. Muhammad had slaves. The Companions had slaves. Well, then, how can Muslims today, or tomorrow, or ever -- as long as the Qur'an is the uncreated and eternal word of Allah, how can they ever turn their backs on slavery? Of course, they cannot.

And just look at the latest news. Many Afrikaners once supported apartheid, but it was the Afrikaners themselves who gave up that system, and many of them came to recognize that it was morally intolerable. Right now, in the Sudan, Arab Muslims chanting songs of joy tie together, in a kind of slave coffle, blacks they have been pillaging, raping, murdering virtually without stop, supported by their own government -- and without a single syllable of protest from a single fellow member of the Arab League, nor indeed from any Muslim authority anywhere -- why does not the Rector of Al-Azhar denounce what the Sudanese Muslim Arabs are doing, the way all Christian churches everywhere used to denoucne apartheid? Cat got his tongue? Why not take note of the burning alive of those tied up blacks, all to the enormous delight of the Muslim Arab women who accompany their brave menfolk on their expeditions, and who chant (you can find the chants online) as blacks are burned alive by Arabs -- as the songs explain, "because you are black."

And one last note. Sheikh Medick would have us believe that all non-Christians, just like the Muslims, have a great problem with the observance of Christian holidays in an overwhelmingly Christian country (with a Muslim population of 2%)--- there he is, attempting somehow to hide behind, or blend in, the Muslim demands, with demands of other groups. For he argues that ideally, all holidays ought to be banned (that is because, from the Muslim point of view, that is the best oucome), as part of a campaign not based on Madisonian secularism, but rather on a studied, and systematic attempt, to strip all non-Muslim countries of the outward and visible signs of their own beliefs, and of the civilisation that they created, and which has helped, in turn, to create them. This is no different from the attempt, this past year, by Muslims to have crucifixes removed from every public wall, every school, in Italy -- and why the most anti-clerical of freethinkers and atheists in Italy found themselves rising to the defenese of that very crucifix, because, of course, this was understood to be an attack not on Christian belief alone, but on the very idea of Italian or Western civilisation, by stripping it systematically first of its symbols, and then of its sense of its own history, and finally, of everything that made the West the West -- and it was not, contrary to the massive and baseless revisionism of Muslim propagandists and those who think they must placate their own Muslims by rewriting their own past, Islam.

Sheikh Medick apparently would have us believe that other non-Christian groups are equally offended -- as Muslims are -- by the observgance of Christmas and Easter, and that these groups, too, would demand the observance of their holidays, and that would create too many holidays, too complicated a situation. He asks, rhetorically, and implausibly: "How are wegoing to accommodate the Jews, the Hindus, the Buddhists, the Rastafarians"? Never mind that as far as I know, Rastafarians do not have a special holiday, unless it be the birthday of the late Negus, Haile Selassie. Jews, Hindus, and Buddhists have their holidays, but not one of those communities has requested that Christmas and Easter cease to be observed in South Africa -- which does not have the secularist tradition of the United States, or the Establishment Clause (these did not suddenly become universal principles: it would be idiotic to expect England not to have an Established Church, or Israel or India or Thailand not to give some preference to Judaism, Hinduism, and Buddhism respectively, nor -- of course -- would one argue that predominantly Muslim states cannot observe Muslim holidays). It is only the Muslims who have done so, but who, characteristically, are hiding their own sui-generis demands (as their sui-generis lack of cooperaton with the American security services, or lack of demonstrated loyalty to the Infidel state, is hidden behind buzzphrases designed to evoke other situations ("racial profiling" is angrily invoked by Muslim groups to describe what is, in fact, a sensible atttempt at "ideological profiling" in order to distinguish those most likely to be engaged in violent Jihad -- all of whom must be Muslims -- from those who do not (some of whom will also be Muslims -- at least, so we are told, and devoutly wish to believe). And the other example of this is the attempt to pretend that the treatment of Japanese-Americans, some of whom on the West Coast were placed in internment camps, has something to do with how Muslims are being treated, when in fact they are not merely being treated with kid gloves, considering the circumstances and the repeated failure to demonstrate loyalty (compare the military effort of Japanese-Americans with what we know about the handful of Muslim soldiers who have been in Iraq and who are regarded by their non-Muslim companions as dangerous security risks, who may kill their Infidel fellow-soldiers, or from whom they may desert and possibly betray their positions or other information to fellow-Muslims who are the enemy).

One supposes this effort will fail. But this is not merely a tale of some individual Grinch in Cape Town. It is a cautionary tale, and all non-Muslims should understand it as such. Even with a mere 2% of the population, the Muslims in South Africa dare to try to banish Christmas from an overwhelmingly Christian country. One often makes predictions about the demographic situation in Western Europe. If nothing is done, by 2040 France, Italy, and Holland will be close to having majority Musim populations. But long before then, indeed even now, in countries where Muslims make up, for the moment, far less of the population, they make constant demands for changes in the way of life, in the sense of its own past, in its food, in the behavior of its citizens, of the Infidels whose countries they have come to. They do not feel they are guests, or that need be grateful. They do not connect the sheer awfulness of the countries they left, and the relative wonderfulness of the Infidel lands they now have come to live in, with the baleful effecdts -- economic, political, intellectual, and moral -- of the presence of Islam in the lands they left or fled, and the absence of Islam, and the presence of Christianity or Judeo-Christianity or post-Judeo-Christianity which, nonetheless, arises out of religions that are not only quite differnt from Islam (for all the soothing Muslim apologetics about "how much we share" and "we are all abrhamic faiths" and "we are all monotheists"--remember, you have far less to fear, and far more in common intellectually, with a Hindu or Buddhist, "idolators" or "polytheists" as the Muslims denounce them, then you do with any "fellow monotheist" who is a Muslim.

The biggest holiday of the year in Japan is Kurisumasu.

One thing the jihad is doing for us is that it is bringing some clarity to the public discourse on the distinction between the religion of Christianity and the civilization of Christendom.

The demographic shifts in Europe toward majority muslim populations portends a spectre of epic economic decline, a return to a dark age where half (female) the population is unemployable due to rampant illiteracy, a reign of terror on a scale not seen since the Nazi conquests as all un-islamic ideologies are violently purged, the return of pandemic diseases that were long ago tamed by Western medicine, unspeakable poverty and a monumental failure of food production. All the the un-islamic world will need to do is run around the edges and let the new islamic empire implode and decay on its own through the Malthusian correction mechanisms that will naturally come into play.

Once upon a time, I lived in Japan where there were a lot of Buddhist and Shinto holidays. I was not offended. But then again, I am not a Muslim.
If a large plurality of a population celebrates a given holiday it makes sense to accomodate them.

They are going to cancel Christmas??? What kind of people are these?? Even my Sikh, Hindu and Buddhist friends all celebrate Christmas!

Besides, Christmas is actually a winter solstice celebration, rather than religious one.

“Your grandchildren will be mall Santas.”

But muslims are OFFENDED, Sheik Canuck. We can't have that.

These idiots haven't stopped to assess the economic impact of abolishing Christmas, have they? As much as I dislike Christmas shopping and deplore the commercialization of this holiday, I have to acknowledge the formidable economic necessity of this celebration. If the South Africans are smart, they'll see that the billions they would lose in jobs and revenue far outweigh the pacification of the insignificant, ignorant, worthless, blooducking, non-contributing Muslim minority.

The Muslims aren't offended. They just want things to be their way: poor, bored and joyless.

Long Live Santa!

If South Africa cancels the Christmas holiday, it should also cancel other religious holidays in order to be fair.

Do I understand this correctly,Muslims that have choosen to move to Canada knowing it a non-Muslim country are now among the masses of Muslims offended that these Countries don't have Islamic laws to make them feel welcomed.
Christmas in Canadian schools have been reduced to the "festive season" multicultural celebrations. Most parents had no problem adjusting to Canadian values and tradition, many are so thankful for migratting here their Canadian born children are taugh to respect tradition and exercise tolerance.
While Arabs and Muslims claim to be tolerant and thankfull for living in Canada, the bigest whinners are the Muslims that want any Jewish or Christian references removed from schools so their children are poisoned by the non-Muslim values. This puts the Teachers Union in a awkward spot, holidays are based on a contract for observing Christmas in December and Easter in the Spring. Once the Islamists kill Christ in Canada
the Winter and Spring breaks will look like a waste of tax-payers money to give Teachers three weeks of paid time off because it got cold, and then it got warm in the Spring.
The real irony here is that CAIR is pushing public schools to force Female teachers to dress modestly to not offend Muslim kids used to Quranic dress codes. Also I posted a article that intimidation by Islamic groups is forcing schools to let the Quran and Islam be taught in classes,it's being done under the guise that all non-Muslims Canadians are bigots and Islamophobes
that must be corrected at a young age.

I say if they are offended by NorthAmericans
to the point they harbour anger, then leave us alone and find a Islamic state that's Muslim friendly and a model of utopia.
