Turkey: Deranged Turk Attacks Diyarbakir Church

It is jihad ideology and the lingering cultural hangover of dhimmitude that stokes rage in "deranged young men" and leads them to attack churches. From Compass Direct:

An apparently deranged young Turk barricaded himself inside the Diyarbakir Evangelical Church in southeast Turkey on July 19, breaking windows and setting fire to curtains, Bibles and cassette tapes until dense smoke finally forced him to surrender to the police.

Identified as Medet Arslan, 27, the young man had stopped by the Protestant church that afternoon in Diyarbakir's Lalebey district, where some of the church members offered him tea. As he sat and talked with them, he began to intersperse his conversation with loud quotes of Quranic verses, saying several times that he wanted to become a martyr.

Raising his voice, Arslan began shouting against the mistreatment of Muslims in Iraq, declaring he wanted to kill people and vowing to go to America and fight. Quickly one of the church staff left the fireside room where they were sitting and called the police.

Moments later the visitor pulled a long butcher knife out from under his coat and chased after a youth who dashed out of the room, managing to hold the door shut until keys were found to lock the man inside.

After several more telephone calls, local police arrived a half-hour later. Arslan barricaded the door, and the police proved unable to reason with the him. Cursing loudly, the man began burning up New Testaments, bookshelves, curtains and whatever else he could find in the room. He also smashed and broke out all the windows in the room.

After several more telephone calls, local police arrived a half-hour later.....were the police Muslim?? sorry I have just become cynical with any authority whose memebers are from this religion..... I dont know why?

Joe Bananas has a point. The police were reluctant to come to protect Christians from attack by a Muslim. This pattern is repeated hundreds of thousands of times. Chrisitan sacred texts were destroyed and people and the Church were underr attack, praiseworthy for a Muslim in a country that is rapdily re-Islamizing. Perhaps the authorities hoped that the church would burn down and be destroyed as is the prevailing pattern all over the Muslim world.

There is no defense against an ideology that proclaims virtue in a martyrdom that destroys others. Islam will always be a threat against non-Muslims because of the Koran, and anyone that believes that co-existence is truly possible has not read history. Periods of calm come about when others are subdued or if the Muslims themselves call for hudna, strategic truce, waiting for the moment that they can press their advantage. This has always been so and will be so as long as Muslims read the Koran and believe it's tenets to be immutable...which is forever, as long as they exist.

What's the betting line that he's back on the street in time for the friday butt-raising ritual?

They should have tried sprinkling holy water on him. Maybe he would have burst into flame or something...

So he wants to come to America and fight?
How do I get this bottom-feeder my address? I want him to meet my 140 pound Schutzhund.

Expect Ottoman Empire was similarly DERANGED for hundreds of years...In this read NO CHRISTIAN/BUDDHIST/HINDU OR OTHER IS SAFE IN MUSLIM COUNTRIES!

Ironic position, Jim.

Sorry to go off the point - on dhimmiwatch a while ago there was a story about a documentary about 'Asian', ie Muslim men grooming young white girls as prostitutes. The documentary was pulled because of 'sensitivity' at the time of the election.

UK readers may be interested to know that the documentary is being shown tonight (Thursday) on Channel 4 at 9pm.

Mike - Great point! I guess he'll be raising his butt whether he's in jail or out!

I think this story illustrates the Muslim mindset well: the people in the church were nice to him, and offered him tea -they weren't aggressive towards him in any way- but it doesn't matter, it doesn't matter if the infidels are nice to him personally, what matters is that they are infidels, and therefore they have to be attacked. This is the problem all together, that no infidel can ever be nice enough as long as they are infidels.

I see two issues:

The "cursing" shows he is doing what evil he wants to do, and claiming it in the name of religion. It is just like (9/11's) Atta drinking and getting drunk in bars. Both this freaks "cursing" and the drinking are against their religion/cult.

Joe Bananas does have a point...that they were most likely slow to respond to a church vs. a mosque. But I think the bigger picture is not that Islam is against Christianity, so is the West.

Show me any laws involving religion in the West and I will show you that they are against Christianity.

Why is it just in the US (it is happening in all of the western countries)that the State Department is granting citizenship to Muslims faster then you can line them up and strangley, from countries that we have freed, Iraq, Afgan. If they are now free why do they need to come here.
But a oppressed Copt Christian from Egypt, a Sudanese Christian, the fleeing to Syria Iragi Christians, can't get a visa/or citizenship if their life depended on it....and their life does depend on it.

When 9/11 happened their were approximatly 7.5 million muslims in the US. Now we are pushing over 11 million. Is no one paying atttention? Does the State Department have a agenda?(as usual, contrary to what the American people want)

And all this going on while Christians are being slaughtered by the thousands and everyone stands around in committees (if it has even gotten that far)to avoid the Christian issues.

Have you noticed that even Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, even the NAACP have never had a opinion about the Sudanese killing of black Christians. Does that not make you think....Why is even the West turning their back on Christians?

I've been to Diyarbakir. It's in Eastern Turkey. Used to be a center of tensions between Kurds and Turks.

I went into a Church within a small mixed Christian and Muslim community. I got the impression that things were OK between the two communities, and that the quarrel was mainly ethnic.

The Kurds have been very much oppressed by the Turks, not even allowed to speak their own language.

If the church had have been a mosque, and the "deranged man" a non muslim, this would have been full day coverage on CNN as a vile hate crime against all muslims and the desicration of the 789,876th holiest site in islam...and the "deranged man" would have been a "racist"

Bomb Damages Church in Northern Cyprus

A bomb exploded before dawn in a Greek Orthodox church in Turkish-occupied north Cyprus on Friday, causing damage but no injuries, authorities said.

The attack followed media reports that Turkish Cypriot extremist groups had vowed to try to prevent services planned next week at the Saint Mamas church to celebrate its namesake's saint's day.

Mehmet Ali Talat, the premier of the breakaway Turkish Cypriot state, said authorities would press forward with the first service at the church in decades, planned as a gesture of reconciliation between ethnic Turks and Greeks.

Hundreds of Greek Cypriots who fled Morphou, known as Guzelyurt in Turkish, in the wake of a 1974 Turkish invasion had planned to attend the service.

"Measures have been taken so that the service could be held in a quiet, peaceful way and they will continue to be taken," Talat said. "No one has the right to upset our internal peace."

The church, which has been used as a museum for Orthodox icons since the invasion, was empty at the time of the blast that damaged the main church door, its ceiling and shattered windows of both the church and nearby buildings.

Turkish Cypriot police said they believed a fire bomb was thrown to ignite explosives that had been planted earlier outside the building.

Aristos Katsis, a Greek Cypriot originally from Morphou, urged fellow Greek Cypriots to "not be cowed by the bomb attack and to attend the service on Wednesday."

Cyprus government spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides said the attack "tends to poison the climate of calm which is necessary for the pursuit of the objective of the reunification of our island."

Cyprus has been divided into the Greek Cypriot controlled south and the occupied north since the 1974 invasion, which was sparked by an abortive coup by supporters of union with Greece.

Earlier this year Turkish Cypriots voted in favor of the reunification of the island on the basis of a United Nations plan. The Greek Cypriots rejected it overwhelmingly, saying it did not go far enough to address their concerns about the presence of Turkish troops in the north and restricted the right of all the 200,000 Greek Cypriot refugees who fled from the north in the wake of the invasion to return and to regain their properties. Only Turkey recognizes the breakaway state.
